Just a tip : With midnightcommander it’s also possible to view .pdf files on console 🙂
So it shows you the plain text if you put the marker on the file and press the F3 – if you want to view a .pdf on console and you need to display the pictures in it, then I’d reccomend the fbgs – that’s a wrapper script which uses gs (GhostScript) and fbi (framebuffer-imageviewer) – also
PS (PostScript) files can be displayed with this tool on the console.

Also Viewnior is an excellent light viewer, I prefer it to gpicview.

Oh one more thing, on the xorg side, I think you’d like xmonad, and on the OS side, OpenBSD seems to be closer to your “style” than linux.

Great page.. I agree with your overall philosophy, some of my choices are different (naturally) but I’m always interested in such programs and when more than 50% is “compatible”, it usually means I can be introduced to a tool I did not know..

I think a table-of-contents would improve this specific post a lot (just the list of software on top)…

My 2 cents 😉

But this time with a difference. It’s my own child, a command line calculator much easier to use than bc.

It’called szg, more details on my link. It needs flex/bison to compile, more details in its manual page.

Great program been looking for something better than screen
Just one question How do you handle printing?
Are condense codes passed through as screen does NOT allow it

zathura, pdf reader. iirc, really lightweight, n few deps (iirc!!)

also loads more goodies on suckles.org. like ii, dwm, surf, and many more.

seriously love this list though.
