First, our Winter 2026 Membership Drive begins Thursday February 12. The monetary goal is $175,000 but the larger goal is to ask our listeners to help the station keep itself in good financial condition. As you probably know, community radio nationally no longer gets support from the federal government and is under some strain right now, so your donations are more crucial than ever.

The station has a couple of really fun events upcoming at which we’d like to see you. Read the articles below for more details on the 56th Birthday Party and the next Blues Cruise.  You’ll get more updates on these events, the station’s partnership with Manna Food Pantry and food collection, and more, in subsequent emails, but right now we’re so excited about these events we had to get the news out to you pronto.

KPFT has engaged a party boat for a 3-hour cruise on Clear Lake and near Kemah Boardwalk. We’ll be sailing with Houston Party Boats. There’ll be food, drinks and DJ Nuri of Blues Brunch serving the blues to all the passengers.

Here’s a short list of some upcoming changes to what you’ll hear on 90.1:

• KPFT programmers are making tribute shows to the Houston hiphop DJ legend and KPFT programmer, Bobby Phats of The Groove. KDUBB, Bobby’s co-host intends to continue the show.

• The coalition from Casa de Casa, led by Jason Barnes ,will host a live New Years Eve show in studio 11PM- 1AM December 31st. They will be taking requests via the internet and the event will be streamed via “Facebook Live” on the KPFT 90.1FM page.

• Two new programs are starting on HD2 in 2026; “In Progress, Texas” (Progressive Politics in Texas weekly recap) and “Plant It Earth” (Gardening in Houston and beyond).

• The KPFT Radio app is now available in Apple and Android stores. The APP provides a convenient way to listen to all three HD channels, listen to archives, catch up on KPFT and make donations and more…. spread the word.

• If you missed our famous Clear Lake cruises, catch the one coming up on April 18, 2026. Save the Date!

Thanks to the generosity of our listeners, KPFT was able to give back to the community by providing a donation to PANCHO CLAUS who works with underserved children in our community providing toys, bicycles and education.

In late January, our Brick Garden will again expand as we install the next tranche of engraved bricks – reflecting the direct support of our listeners.

Thanks to our donors the station raised $193,000, resulting in a check for $1,930 to Pancho Claus Arts. Pancho Claus came by KPFT today to pick up the check, and brought with him just a few of the bicycles he plans to buy and distribute to kids in Houston and environs during the holiday season.
