Know your carbon impact

Everything we buy has a carbon impact on the climate. As we see the impacts of climate change unfold, it is more important than ever to make more conscious choices. With so many unsubstantiated claims being made on products' environmental credentials, it can be difficult to identify brands that make real efforts to tackle the carbon footprints of their products.

How does a product carbon footprint label help?

The Carbon Trust label is here to help, bringing you transparent claims backed up with robust data and evidence behind those claims, so you can make more informed decisions in your everyday shop.

The Carbon Trust label provides clear and transparent information about a product's carbon footprint. This has been calculated by widely recognised international standards such as ISO 14067 and GHG Protocol Product Standard.

Become a carbon conscious consumer.

Look for the label.

What does the Carbon Trust label tell me?

Looking for the green footprint label tells you that the product has taken steps on its carbon footprint. Each product is different and that is why we have a detailed panel to explain. For transparency you can also follow the web links and we detail products on this directory too.

Understanding your product's carbon footprint?

A product's carbon footprint covers all emissions that are released during the product's lifetime - from the extraction of raw materials to the product being made through to the moment it ends up in your shopping basket to when it is used and, finally, disposed of.*

It covers:

01

Materials

The materials that are needed to create the product

02

Manufacturing

The manufacturing processes and their energy intensity

03

Distribution and retailers

The distribution of the product, placing it on the shelves ready for purchasing

04

Use of product

Your usage of the product. Dishwashers, tablets and hair dryers all require energy to operate and create further emissions while in use

05

Disposal and recycling

The eventual disposal of the product at the end of its life, or when you no longer have a need for it
