Regular (flat) usage, showing the controller software on the connected tablet
4th axis usage

The bed is 300x200mm (though it is possible to mill larger stock through tiling) and the 4th axis can take stock up to 200mm long.

Documentation

There is a huge amount of information to be found on the official wiki.

Physical manuals are near the machine, but digital versions are also available.

There are plenty of project ideas (video and text) to give inspiration and to give you an idea of what is possible.

Materials

Please ask before milling ferrous metals or anything not mentioned below.

Always attach the hoover and dust shoe when milling wood or plastic (except when using the 4th axis) and always use air assist when milling metals.

  • Wood
    • Hardwood
    • Softwood
  • Plastic (hard)
    • Acrylic
    • Polycarbonate
    • ABS
  • Circuit boards, single- and double-sided
  • Non-ferrous metals
    • Aluminium (8082 for milling – do not use regular, soft aluminium)
    • Brass
    • Copper
  • Ferrous metals (except on 4th axis)
    • Stainless steel
    • Mild steel

Tooling

Members are expected to use their own tooling (mills and bits) with the machine – they can break and will wear out with use. A variety of basic mills and bits are available for purchase from us (from £1.50 each).

Examples

Some cool things we’ve made on the machine.

Funding

The device was funded by Electech Innovation Cluster (ETIC) and arrived in May 2025.

At its simplest, it provides effort-free tabby weave fabric, but with a double heddle and pickup sticks, can produce something as complicated as on a 4-shaft table loom.

The loom was bought in April 2025, with very generous funding from the 3RC Foundation.

Accessories

We have lots of addons for the loom, including hand made parts:

  • 3x pickup sticks
  • 3x 24″ shuttles
  • Heddles
    • 2x 7.5 epi
    • 1x 10 epi
    • 1x 5 epi
  • Many Cardboard strips to put between layers of fabric on the rollers
  • 3x yarn hooks
  • Instructions manual

Examples of what it has made

This is still fairly new, so not much has been made yet:

It prints small stickers. Quite useful if you want to keep a Makerspace from getting too messy.

If you think you have a cool use for it, it is in the cupboard under the door access PC. It however uses your mobile phone to design stickers.

Software is in your favorite mobile app store, and called ‘Nelko’. You don’t need to plug it in, as it has a suprisingly powerful Battery for some mysterious reason. You can also use AI to design labels, which is equally bemusing.

LokLik Vinyl/Felt/Card Cutter https://lamm.space/docs/loklik-vinyl-felt-card-cutter/ https://lamm.space/docs/loklik-vinyl-felt-card-cutter/#respond Sat, 21 Dec 2024 00:00:46 +0000 https://lamm.space/?post_type=docs&p=2031 Continue reading "LokLik Vinyl/Felt/Card Cutter"]]>

A reasonably modern and very capable cutter. The software is suspiciously cloud-based, and also looks like it won’t be usable forever. Use it when you still can!

Spares and adhesive sheets are under the table, some consumables are in the space but only use plastic backed vinyl. For best results, bring your own.

You can also cut card, but the machine will ask you to change to the alternative blue 60 blade. This is at your own risk as the blade is very sharp, and always use thick gloves. Swap the red 45 blade back when finished.

In the front of the swing down lid is a pen, you can also use the machine to draw text. Which is a real novelty, but of limited use.

The hole on the left hand side contains the weeding tools.

Software is called LokLik Studio and is installed on the Windows PC on the desk, with the password on the desktop in text file. Video tutorials can be found at https://store.loklik.com/app-help
