We hear you: branding, designing, website building – it isn’t cheap. When you’re operating on a shoestring budget, it only makes sense that you would try to find the most affordable way to do things. So maybe you didn’t drop a few thousand on your branding. Maybe an affordable logo design for you meant whatever change you had in your pocket.

It should still be, look, and feel amazing.

Expense /=/ Quality

When it comes to affordable logo design, the word “affordable” isn’t the defining feature. “Logo design” is the defining feature, and just because you don’t have a ton of cash means you should settle for less.

Sometimes the most effective designers are going to be those who are just starting out. They don’t know if they’re good or not yet, and they’re eager to please. Often, these designers will almost work for pizza, but many of them have years of practice, schooling, and creativity under their belts; they just don’t have the professional experience or the portfolio to charge the big bucks yet. Perhaps you’ll have to be part of that portfolio, or maybe you’ll need to volunteer a testimony, but you won’t be paying high-end designer prices. You’ll still get a good, quality design concept, however, and a very affordable logo design.

Quality = Importance

We are not saying unprofessional designers always come up with terrible designs. In fact, some designers are just natural artists, and have a good eye and excellent creative thought. However, it is more likely someone who has taken the time and effort to refine their talent will present a better concept in the first place, one that can be sculpted into exactly what you want.

Image result for amateur logoEven if you like the logo your untrained logo designer presents you, it is possible that he or she just does not have the knowledge to make a logo that is not only going to last, but appeals to people in the right way now. For example, perhaps you really like a playful logo design, but your business is one that handles professional services. A playful logo design is childish and very amateur when done incorrectly. There is a place for it, but not for a professional business that is designed for other professional adults. Perhaps your designer just goes with the flow of their creativity instead of taking that kind of thing into consideration, which would be disastrous. An easy and innocent mistake to make, but disastrous all the same.

Money Expense /=/ True Expense

In the end, try to remember that financially is not the only way something can be expensive. An affordable logo design may seem affordable when it comes to dollar bills, but the amount it could cost you to fix the design, redesign the design, or totally scrap it once you realize your mistake can cost you your reputation, clientele, and more money.

The term “brand” has gained significant prominence and is used more today due to several reasons:

In todays hyper-connected world, the term “brand” seems to be everywhere. In business meetings, marketing campaigns, social media, and even personal career advice. But why has this word gained so much traction and why is it used more today than ever before?

The Digital Revolution Changed the Game

Before the internet, “brand” referred mostly to logos, slogans, and perhaps a jingle on TV. But with the rise of digital platforms, branding became a much more dynamic concept. Companies now have to maintain a presence across websites, apps, email, search engines, social media and more.

Each of these platforms is a touchpoint where consumers experience the brand. The term “brand” has expanded to include voice, personality, values and user experience. In short: it’s no longer just what a company says, it’s what people fell when they interact with it online.

More Competition = More Need to Stand Out

As markets become more saturated with products and services that are often similar in function or quality, branding has become the key differentiator.

Think of how many clothing brands, coffee shops or restaurants exist. The one that wins your loyalty is usually the one with the most resonant brand, not just the best product.

This demand for emotional and psychological appeal makes branding a top priority in marketing strategies, pushing the term into everyday conversations.

Social Media Turned People Into Brands

Another reason “brand” is used more today: people are now brands.

With platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok, individuals, whether they’re influencers, job seekers, or entrepreneurs are encouraged to cultivate their personal brand. This refers to how they present themselves online, what they stand for and how they connect with their audience.

The rise of the “personal brand” has made the term even more popular beyond the realm of businesses.

Brand Loyalty Is a Business Goal

Companies know that customers don’t just buy products, they buy into stories, missions and values. This shift means that branding is no longer an afterthought, it’s at the heart of how businesses grow and retain customers.

As a result, branding is emphasized more in business strategy leading to more frequent use of the word in professional spaces.

Globalization and Cultural Influence

In todays global market, cultural identity, language and values influence how a brand is perceived. As companies expand internationally they invest more in crafting brand identities that resonate across different regions. This keeps the term top-of-mind for multinational companies and marketers alike.

Key Takeaway

The term “brand” has evolved from a logo or a name into a full fledged identity for companies and individuals alike. In an age where visibility, trust and authenticity drive decisions, it’s no surprise that branding has become a buzzword and a crucial tool for success.

So the next time you hear someone talking about “building a brand”, know that they’re talking about much more than just design. They’re talking about shaping perception in an increasingly crowded and connected world.

Your logo is everything that your business stands for. In short, your logo introduces your company, fully describes it, and immediately solidifies it in your audience’s memory. It enhances first impressions, raises curiosity, and creates excitement. A great logo, however, does much more than that. It establishes your brand’s identity, generates trust, and sums up all the reasons why your business is better than the rest. So if you want your company to not only separate itself from the bunch, but also to receive the appropriate recognition for its positive attributes, then why not keep reminding your potential customers what these are – discretely, creatively and fuss-free?

1. A great logo attracts immediate attention.

Just as important as your company’s name is to making a lasting first impression, your logo can make you or break you. A great logo – combined with a clever label – will undoubtedly raise eyebrows; make people curious; and force everyone to remember you. That momentary first impression needs to be striking, bold, and to the point; and there is nothing that can do this more effectively than a great logo specifically designed to represent everything that you’re proud of about your business.

2. A clever logo delivers your message for you.

What is it that should set your company above its competitors? When you started up, there must have been something that was fueling your efforts, something that you believed in, wanted to communicate, and wished to achieve through your work. A clever logo should tell your potential customers all of this. With a little imagination and creativity, your logo could say even more – leaving you with very little advertising and promotion work.

3. An attractive logo sets you apart from your competitors.

Although you would think that all business owners who are serious about succeeding would choose to attach a great logo to their company, this is surprisingly not the case. Company owners seem to neglect that aspect of promoting, advertising, and brand building – considering it perhaps a waste of time and money. But clever, attractive and brand-specific graphic design can do wonders in setting you above your competitors. Plus, it’s a one-off move, before you can enjoy its solid rewards for the rest of your company’s life.

4. A discerning logo inspires trust.

A clever logo will not only attract attention, but it will also turn mere curiosity into loyalty and trust. Your logo has the ability of turning a simple inquiry into long-lasting confidence and a person who happened to check you out, into a steady customer who swears by your services and would never choose to go anywhere else. Customers need to immediately feel good about your business, and your logo can do this; but they also need to be persuaded, encouraged and inspired – which only a clean-cut, professional logo can accomplish.

5. The right logo is timeless.

Finally, your business needs a great logo to stand the test of time. As your competitors slowly fade into the distance, your company logo can ensure that your brand turns from new and exciting, into a trustworthy, professional and a household name. The right logo will solidify your business in your audience’s minds for good. It will be enduring and everlasting. So avoid falling for what is trendy, what sells now, and what is cutting-edge at present – and of course refrain from changing or adjusting your logo several times throughout your brand’s life. This will only confuse and alienate your customers. Instead, opt for classic, evocative, trustworthy, stimulating, and timeless.

We get it – you really dig your logo. We might, too. The fact is that not every logo that’s not good for representing a company is necessarily bad design. We have seen works of art for logos. We have seen funny, clever, witty logos. We have seen logos that are all shapes and sizes. Some of them are amazing, and represent amazing companies – companies that need a logo design update.

Badly.

There is no shame in updating your logo. In fact, an update is a cost-efficient way to not only keep up with the times, but to refresh and renew your brand without scrapping your entire image. That’s always a good reason for a logo design update, and while you might decide in the end you don’t need an update, you might want to consider one if you detect any of the following issues.

Your Business Has Changed a Lot

Even if you sell the same things that you sold when you first opened, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the same company. People change, companies evolve, things blossom. This often means that you’re just due for a logo design update, even if your original logo has held up well to the mistress of time.

Perhaps your business has decided to change focus a little and become more environmentally friendly. Maybe you’ve even expanded your line and are only a US-based company now. Whatever the reason may be, change to your company – both spurred on by you and ones that have happened naturally over time – demand updates to your company representation.

There’s No Good Way to Make It a Social Icon

Logos that are long, intricate, or ones that don’t shrink well often need some adjustment. Even if you do something simple with your logo design update, you’ll want to ensure that you have something that is either universally usable across social media – such as a square logo – or that it can shrink down into something recognizable for your brand when you use it on social media. Let’s take NextDoor, for example:

This logo will not, and does not, fit a pretty little social media square. It will not shrink correctly. It will not be readable on tablets and phones – and you need to care about that. So what did Nextdoor do?

They made a recognizable icon to represent themselves on social media. As you can see, the house is identical; we aren’t sure about the color change, but you’d know that this is Nextdoor’s logo at a glance.

If you just need help “translating” your existing logo into a byte-sized social media icon, we do that, too – just give us a buzz.

Complicated Features

We’re looking at you, original Apple logo.

While this Apple logo is meaningful, artistic, and looks quite nice on paper, I am literally staring at a huge version of it and still can’t quite make out the words around the edge (did you see the words around the edge?). We’ve come a long way since this original design, and the needs of our society has changed quite a bit. Today, this logo would just not work. It isn’t scalable, it isn’t really representative of the company, and who wants to try to get a vector of this bad boy? Not me.

Apple has had one logo design update after another, and they’ve paired their apple down to something that’s easily recognizable, infinitely scalable, and they can stick on their products – even their nano iPods.

Your logo doesn’t need to be complicated to be awesome. Simplification will make it easier to remember your company. Be bold with your logo. Have fun with it. Just don’t make it hard to see or understand.

It Wasn’t Professionally Designed

No, this section isn’t here just to convince you to use our designers for your next graphics project – I promise. There is a lot of value in choosing a designer to make your logo. Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • A designer has logo and branding understanding. We’re not saying you’re undereducated;  you have a business to run, and it’s likely that’s where your expertise lies. If you were a designer, you’d know more about designing. However, you don’t have to be! People have already gotten that education for you, and are ready to create something that you want, but meets modern design principle expectations as well.
  • Tons and tons of small changes make a difference. A few colors or a few small changes to a graphic can make an entirely different image; if you don’t get a professional to do your logo, it can be difficult to make those small changes. Professional designers build their graphics in vector format, which allows for a logo to be infinitely scaled and adjusted element by element. You don’t like a shade of green on your existing logo? No problem – as long as the file is a vector, that’s a really easy logo design update. How do you know if you have a logo in a vector format? Use a professional designer. Here at Logoworks, we keep your logos for basically all of time and eternity – just in case you lose them, we have them. Find a designer that does the same.
  • You’re supporting an artist. A lot of designers don’t charge much to do what they do, considering the work and effort they put into what they give you. At Logoworks, we pay each and every designer you decide to put on your project, too – even if you don’t choose their design, so you’re feeding more than one family. Even if you choose an independent designer, you’re keeping someone’s lights on.
  • Perfection. A good designer will tweak and tweak until you’re both happy – she with her design, and you with the result.
Logo Design Update Blog
Personally, I don’t think that Jug’s will ever need a logo design update. Obviously this logo is eternal(ly awesome).

So just remember – when in doubt, ask a designer. If your logo needs an update, update it. Don’t put it off. Get it done, start using it, keep your designer’s contact information, and start making the best of your logo design update – you deserve it.

It only takes seconds for people receiving your business card to form an opinion about you and your brand. Whether they will reach out to you, eager to make the most of your product or services, highly depends on this first impression, so make sure your card speaks fast and works wonders. Here are a few things to keep in mind when putting together your unique business card.

Design your logo

Coming up with a unique logo that will represent your business on all cards, flyers, websites, social pages, brochures and so on is crucial. If you want, you can design your logo on your own, or you can have an expert do it for you — in either case, a logo design is crucial for your card, as it solidifies your brand in your audience’s mind.

Establish your message

Your card has very limited space for text, so keep your message short and sweet. Come up with a slogan, a motto, or a brief, catchy description for your brand. Then place it just under (or next to, if there is enough space) your logo, while keeping the rest of the card clean with plenty of breathing space in order to not appear too busy.

Include your contact details

Don’t forget about the most important aim of your business card — to help potential customers track you down. No matter how dull or predictable it may seem, including your contact details is essential, so make them part of the design. Include your name, professional email address and telephone number. Place them right under your main message in a font slightly smaller than your slogan. Even include a QR Code to send users to your website or to easily download your contact details. Make them prominent, but keep them stylish and ensure they stand out while still looking like an important part of a whole.

Choose the right colors

The colors you choose for your business card should not only effectively represent your brand and send the right message, but also complement each other. Bold, striking colors are highly encouraged, but don’t try to just grab the reader’s attention at all costs. Instead, focus on vibrant colors that go well together, with perhaps only one hue being the focus and the rest complimentary tones and shades that dress it up well.

Your business card should stand out and instantly engage the reader, but it should also be easy to read and gather information from. Focus on making it readable but also original and exciting, while keeping it clean, classy, and uncluttered. Big fonts and vibrant colors should be used to distinguish your unique message, but avoid bullet points, boxes, tables and even borders, and opt for a more relaxed, elegant look.

Just like commissioning a good logo doesn’t suddenly mean you have a brand identity, having a website – even a good website –  doesn’t mean that you have an online presence. Without keeping the full picture in mind, you’re doing yourself and your website a grave injustice. Why spend all of that money on a website if it isn’t actually going to do much for you?

Don’t get me wrong – I really wish that a website was all it took these days, but it isn’t. Saying, “I have a website, and that’s good enough!” is like saying, “I have a billboard on an old, decrepit road sort of near Route 66, and that’s good enough!”

Website vs. Web Presence

If you are reading this article, you probably have a decent idea of what a website is – but what, pray tell, is a web presence?

This is an identity that you have created. Generally, this kind of thing is created through interactions with people online, branding of all of your social media channels, and yes, your website. Over time and with tons of effort, your online presence will bring more business, leads, and referrals simply because people take Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc… very, very seriously.

But I Don’t Sell Anything Online!

Sure, that makes sense – you can’t sell every service or product online, but you can meet new clients there, even if you aren’t actually trying to get them to buy anything from your website. With 6.4 billion smartphone subscriptions in the world and over half the world on the Internet, people are going to expect a business to be on the internet. That’s just how it is. You will be expected to be there, presenting your products with whatever personality your brand is going for, and if you aren’t – people will notice.

Prove That You’re Human

With a few clicks, you can have a website. With a few more clicks – or a few dollars – your website can look good, have good content, and be presentable. But what makes it look like it was designed by a person, other than typos? Consistency. You pick an idea and you run with it across your entire online presence, including your website. Be warm, professional, helpful. Whatever you’d like to do. And then start maintaining relationships. Answer questions. Make it easy to contact your company. Say “hey!” instead of “hello”. A complete online presence instead of just a website is what is going to help you get there.

Money-Wise, It Doesn’t Cost All That Much More

So the truth of building out an entire web presence is that it will take more time. You have to make sure responses are the same across the web. All of the banners for social media are different sizes, which can be super challenging when it comes to making sure everything fits without getting chopped off or distorted. And yes, you’ll have to spend some time managing your presence every day, instead of just expecting your website to do all of the work for you.

However, monetarily, it isn’t going to cost a whole lot more to get yourself across the web than it would to throw up a website (that was designed by a professional web designer, of course). This makes this sort of marketing and branding and lead generation really, really cheap. It makes it ridiculously easy for customers to come to you, and it expands your reach almost exponentially just by creating the full picture instead of just depending on one piece of the puzzle to get the point across.

All in all, it’s an excellent investment and a great idea to expand past that website, friends. It’ll be worth your time and it’ll be worth your effort.

Congratulations! You own a domain. That’s a really big step in the right direction! We’re very proud of you.

So now that you have a domain…

Now what?

Why You Need Hosting AND a Domain

So let’s say you’ve purchased a domain and your domain is fluffyoranges.biz. You encourage people to post pictures of pretty oranges. Even knitted ones. You know…that’s awesome.

But your URL doesn’t go anywhere. It just sits there in your URL bar looking pretty. Nothing pops up about oranges when you type it in. Nothing happens to impress you. You see no photos of oranges. Not even a crocheted one, even if that isn’t your favorite.

So…why not?

Hosting is the Key!

Imagine the internet is a game of Monopoly. A really scary game of Monopoly with no limit on houses or hotels and a negative Free Parking.

In this game of Monopoly, you hold, in your hand, the card to Boardwalk. This is like your hosting. While you hold the card to Boardwalk, there is rent due, even if there isn’t very much rent due because the property is unmodified. There is a place on the board for your property. You even know where it is! – but it doesn’t have a name, even if you can literally put your finger on the spot where Boardwalk is. It doesn’t have a house, and your property card doesn’t have any information on how to modify the property. This is because your hosting is just what supports your website. It is the backbone, but it isn’t your website, or your domain.

So Wait, My Domain Is…

Your domain is what is going to put a house and a name on Boardwalk. Your domain is FluffyOranges.biz. Your domain is going to make sure people can locate your property and cringe appropriately once you tell them how much rent is.

To review – your hosting is your anchor, it’s your space on the board. But your domain is what people are going to use to find you and your fluffy orange pictures – one without the other is not so helpful. You can’t build a house on Boardwalk without owning Boardwalk, and Boardwalk is just another place on the board without a house. To really make everyone go bankrupt, you need both – AND the ability to upgrade to hotels, which is your websiteThat is how you total people in Monopoly, and that’s how you’re going to rock your internet presence, too.

So remember, when in doubt – hosting, domain, website. Hosting, domain, website. You need all three as a skeleton foundation for your internet presence. Watch out for an infographic on this one, folks.

What is a Vector File?

Before delving into the importance of vector files, it’s essential to understand what they are. A vector file is a type of graphic file that uses mathematical equations to define shapes and lines, rather than relying on pixels like raster files (e.g., JPEG or PNG). Vector files are typically created using vector graphics software like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW, and they come in formats such as .AI, .EPS, .SVG, and .PDF.

Scalability
One of the most significant advantages of vector files is their scalability. Since they use mathematical formulas to define images, vector graphics can be resized to any dimension without losing quality. This means you can enlarge your logo for a billboard or shrink it for a business card without worrying about pixelation or blurriness. This level of flexibility is crucial for maintaining a consistent brand identity across various platforms and materials.

Print-Ready Quality
When it comes to professional printing, vector files are a must-have. Whether you’re producing brochures, banners, or even branded merchandise like T-shirts and mugs, vector files ensure that your logo looks sharp and clear. Raster files, on the other hand, may appear pixelated when printed at a larger size, which can negatively impact your brand’s image.

Editability
Vector files are editable, allowing designers to make changes to your logo while preserving its quality. This flexibility is invaluable when you need to adapt your logo for specific marketing campaigns or when rebranding becomes necessary. With a vector file, you can easily update colors, adjust shapes, or modify text elements without compromising the logo’s integrity.

Versatility
Different applications and platforms require different file formats and color modes. Vector files can be converted into various formats and color profiles, ensuring compatibility with different software and printing processes. This versatility saves time and effort when you need to adapt your logo for different purposes.

Future-Proofing
Technology evolves rapidly, and display resolutions continue to improve. By having a vector file of your logo, you future-proof your brand’s visual assets. You won’t need to recreate your logo in higher resolutions or different formats as technology advances; your vector file will adapt seamlessly.

In the world of branding and design, having a vector file of your logo is not just a convenience; it’s a necessity. It empowers you to maintain a consistent and professional brand image, regardless of where and how your logo is used. Whether you’re designing for the web, printing marketing materials, or rebranding in the future, a vector file ensures that your logo always looks its best. So, if you haven’t already, make sure to obtain a vector file of your logo – it’s an investment in your brand’s success.

In the fast paced world of branding and design, an outdated logo can hinder a companys ability to connect with its audience and stay relevant in the market. A logo that once represented the essence of a brand might lose its appeal over time due to changes in consumer preferences, industry trends, or simply due to design fatigue. However, fear not! In this article, we will explore the importance of logo redesign and how to breathe new life into an outdated logo, transforming it into a modern design that captivates your audience once again.

Assess the Need for a Redesign:
The first step in the logo redesign process is to assess whether your current logo needs a refresh. Look out for signs such as declining brand recognition, a mismatch with your brand values, or a design that appears dated compared to competitors. Gather feedback from employees, customers, and stakeholders to understand their perception of your existing logo and identify areas for improvement.

Analyze Market Trends:
Before diving into the redesign, research the latest design trends in your industry and beyond. Keeping your logo aligned with modern aesthetics will not only attract your target audience but also demonstrate that your brand is adaptive and forward thinking. Embrace minimalism, bold typography and clean lines to create a logo that stands the test of time.

Maintain Brand Continuity:
While it’s essential to modernize your logo, it’s equally crucial to maintain brand continuity. Preserve key elements of your original logo, such as colors or iconic symbols to ensure that your brand essence remains intact. Striking the right balance between evolution and consistency is vital to a successful logo redesign.

Simplicity is Key:
Modern logos often embrace simplicity, allowing for easy recognition and scalability across various platforms. Streamline your design, eliminate unnecessary elements and focus on creating a logo that is both memorable and versatile. A clutter free logo will leave a lasting impression on your audience.

Optimize for Digital Platforms:
In the digital era, your logo will appear across a multitude of platforms and devices. Ensure that your redesigned logo is optimized for various screen sizes and resolutions, ensuring a seamless and visually appealing user experience. A responsive logo will reinforce your brands credibility and professionalism.

Seek Professional Expertise:
Logo redesign is a significant undertaking that requires professional expertise. Collaborate with skilled graphic designers or branding agencies like Logoworks that understand your brands vision and can translate it into a compelling and modern logo design. Their insights and creativity will prove invaluable throughout the redesign process.

A logo redesign is not merely about following design trends but a strategic move to rejuvenate your brands identity and stay relevant in a dynamic market. By assessing the need for a redesign, analyzing market trends, maintaining brand continuity, embracing simplicity, optimizing for digital platforms, and seeking professional expertise, you can transform your outdated logo into a modern design that resonates with your audience and reinforces your brands position in the industry.
