Development Updates

Protocol and Network Progress

Across January and February, Lumera continued its shift from “infrastructure built” to “infrastructure used.” Participation accelerated through simple, intentional actions — connecting a wallet, engaging with the Lumera Hub, staking LUME, interacting with Cascade. These behaviors are already driving measurable on-chain activity while preparing the network for broader adoption as Lumera evolves into a modular, high-performance Layer-1 designed to support decentralized data, interoperability, and AI-driven workloads.

Infrastructure and Performance

The network saw meaningful reliability, security, and developer-experience improvements across the period — including mainnet upgrades that strengthened on-chain action handling, interchain account security, and cross-chain signature verification, alongside core dependency and tooling updates. These enhancements were delivered as safe, non-breaking improvements that reinforce stability as participation scales.

What Shipped

Mainnet Upgrade v1.9.1 (Aurora Eclipse) — A safe patch release introducing support for on-chain app_pubkey for actions, exposure of app_pubkey in action queries, and hardened ICA signature verification (ADR-36 + RS64), along with Hermes/ICA tooling updates and documentation improvements.

LumeScope Launch — A read-only API that streamlines access to network data, enabling builders to decode action metadata across modules like Sense and Cascade, preview Cascade file details, and monitor SuperNode performance and availability. LumeScope also supports lightweight deployment including a single-container Docker option, accelerating tooling and analytics development on Lumera.

February Mainnet Upgrade Cycle (v1.9.1 → v1.10.1)

February delivered one of the most substantial infrastructure upgrade cycles in Lumera’s lifecycle through a two-phase release path: v1.10.0 (core modernization and major protocol enhancements) and v1.10.1 (stabilization and upgrade safety hardening).

Cosmos Stack Modernization

  • Upgraded to Cosmos SDK v0.53.5 (from v0.50.14)
  • Upgraded to CometBFT v0.38.20

This keeps Lumera aligned with upstream performance, security improvements, and current tooling across the Cosmos ecosystem.

Unordered Transactions

Support for a “fire-and-forget” model using timeout_timestamp as a time-to-live. This reduces sequencing constraints, improves throughput efficiency, lowers developer friction, and supports more flexible execution in high-volume environments.

Consensus and Module Modernization

  • Migrated consensus parameters from deprecated x/params to x/consensus
  • Removed the legacy x/crisis module

These changes reduce legacy dependencies and streamline the chain’s module surface.

Interoperability Upgrades

  • Upgraded IBC-Go v10.3.0 → v10.5.0, positioning Lumera for IBC v2 readiness and Router v2 support as cross-chain standards mature
  • Updated the CosmWasm stack: wasmd v0.55.0 → v0.61.6, wasmvm v3.0.0 → v3.0.2

v1.10.1 Stabilization

A focused stabilization release introduced safeguards that materially strengthen live-network resilience, including safer upgrade sequencing, protection against upgrade-related panics, consensus parameter repair mechanisms for edge cases, and devnet tooling improvements.

Taken together, February’s upgrades represent a major maturation of Lumera’s protocol layer as the network scales.

Ecosystem and Partnerships

Ecosystem momentum continued to strengthen. Lumera’s integration footprint expanded with Chainalysis support, improving access to analytics and compliance tooling for exchanges, custodians, and institutional participants — reinforcing readiness for broader adoption.

Partnership development also progressed from alignment toward execution. Lumera remains engaged in deeper technical integration work with a prominent Cosmos Layer-1 network, with additional ecosystem collaborations progressing in parallel. The focus remains interoperability expansion, developer access, and reinforcing Lumera’s position as a neutral modular infrastructure layer across ecosystems.

SuperNode Program

The SuperNode network scaled meaningfully across the period, strengthening decentralization and operational resilience. Strong early interest resulted in 29 applications and an active onboarding pipeline, with operator participation accelerating to 22 active SuperNodes — more than doubling month over month.

Community Highlights

January kicked off with Foundry Season 2 shifting the community toward mission-driven participation grounded in real protocol usage. The launch set a clear tone, and a week-one recap quickly followed to remind everyone still finding their footing — you’re early, get in. From there, the focus stayed practical: what actually counts in Season 2, how to stake through the Hub, and the specific actions — uploads, integrations — that move the needle. Weekly leaderboards kept the competitive energy alive across Cascade and staking, with the Week 2 standings showing the community was just getting warmed up.

February widened the lens. Beyond participation mechanics, the conversation shifted toward where Lumera is headed — a live Space mapped out the 2026 roadmap, and the AMA recap captured the highlights for anyone who missed it. Lumera also showed up in wider Web3 conversations around sustainability and real utility, including a League of Traders session and independent Xangle research coverage that brought fresh eyes to the protocol. Blockhunters added to the external momentum with a spotlight that introduced Lumera to a broader audience — the full recap is worth a read.

Two months in, the through-line is clear: steady execution, consistent narrative, and a community that’s building with intention.

A Note on Centralized Exchange Listings

Centralized exchange listings remain a priority and the process is ongoing, with timing approached strategically. Given broader market volatility in recent weeks, Lumera is maintaining a disciplined approach and prefers to list into strength rather than optimize for short-term optics. Updates will be communicated directly as soon as there is concrete news to share.

What’s Ahead

With v1.10.1 stable on mainnet, focus increasingly shifts toward the application layer and the services Lumera’s architecture is designed to support — AI services, agent infrastructure, and advanced storage capabilities. SuperNode onboarding continues alongside cross-chain integrations and ecosystem partnerships that deepen composability.

Near-term priorities remain centered on expanding accessibility through exchange strategy, fiat and crypto on/off-ramps, and broader wallet support, while continuing integration work across the Cosmos ecosystem and extending beyond it through additional collaborations. As 2026 progresses, Lumera’s roadmap continues to build toward fuller modular activation, with disciplined execution across infrastructure, ecosystem, and community growth.

Season 1 of Lumera Foundry has officially wrapped, and the response from the community has been incredible. Over the course of the season, the Lumera community earned over 200 million XP and completed more than 250,000 quests, contributing across social, educational, and ecosystem-focused challenges. Season 1 demonstrated that Foundry can support meaningful participation at scale and laid a strong foundation for what comes next.

With that momentum, we’re excited to announce that Season 2 of Lumera Foundry launches on January 12 and runs through March 31.

What’s Coming in Season 2

Season 2 marks a shift from onboarding to deeper ecosystem engagement. While Season 1 focused on introducing Lumera and rewarding early participation, Season 2 will bring more advanced and exciting quests, with a stronger emphasis on real interaction with Lumera’s growing product stack and ecosystem.

Participants can expect:

  • Lumera Hub–centered quests, encouraging hands-on exploration of Lumera’s core infrastructure
  • Ecosystem and partner-driven quests, tied to upcoming partnership announcements
  • New quest formats that reward meaningful usage, experimentation, and long-term contribution

As Lumera continues to expand, Foundry will increasingly reflect real product adoption and ecosystem activity — not just surface-level engagement.

Season 2 Incentives

For Season 2, a total of 2.5M LUME has been allocated for rewards:

  • 1M LUME is dedicated to Lumera Foundry participants
  • 1.5M LUME is reserved for ecosystem campaigns, partner activations, and marketing initiatives

Foundry remains the central hub for community participation, but this split allows us to extend incentives into broader ecosystem initiatives that bring new partners, products, and users into the Lumera network.

Reward Mechanics

Rewards in Foundry are distributed based on XP earned during quests, calculated as a percentage of total XP earned by all participants. To support our loyal users while remaining fair to newcomers, we are introducing two multipliers:

  1. 1.1× Early Engagement Multiplier
  • Users who complete at least 3 quests per week for 4 or more weeks of the season
  • Rewards consistent participation in the early part of the season

2. 1.25× Loyalty Multiplier

  • Users who complete at least 3 quests per week for 10 out of 11 full weeks of the season
  • Rewards highly consistent engagement across nearly the entire season

Participants who don’t meet these thresholds still earn XP-based rewards, ensuring that new participants joining later can still earn proportional rewards.

Example

Suppose Alice, Bob, and Carol participate in Foundry:

If the total effective XP earned by all participants is 10,000, the XP % of the total is:

  • Alice: 1,500 / 10,000 = 15%
  • Bob: 1,210 / 10,000 = 12.1%
  • Carol: 1,000 / 10,000 = 10%

If the Foundry prize pool is 1M LUME, Alice would receive 150,000 LUME, Bob 121,000 LUME, and Carol 100,000 LUME.

This method ensures both loyal and consistent participants are rewarded, while new participants can still earn rewards relative to their engagement.

Built on Season 1 Learnings

Season 2 benefits directly from everything we learned during Season 1. Quest structure, progression, and validation have all been refined to create a smoother experience and ensure fair, transparent reward distribution.

Whether you participated throughout Season 1 or are joining Foundry for the first time, Season 2 is designed to be more focused, more engaging, and more closely aligned with Lumera’s roadmap.

Join Us on January 12

Season 2 of Lumera Foundry runs from January 12 through March 31, with new quests and ecosystem initiatives rolling out throughout the season.

More details on upcoming quests, partnerships, and activations will be shared as the season unfolds.

2025 marked the evolution of Pastel Network into Lumera Protocol, a transformation that went far beyond a rebrand. Lumera was rebuilt from the ground up with stronger architecture, modular infrastructure, and a redesigned economic model, creating a platform capable of supporting decentralized storage, AI services, and scalable Web3 applications. This evolution carries forward the lessons, momentum, and community of Pastel, setting the stage for a network that is not only more powerful but also more accessible, resilient, and ready to drive real-world adoption.

The decision to migrate off Pastel Network was driven by a clear objective: to build a more scalable, modular, and service-oriented infrastructure capable of supporting decentralized storage, content authenticity, and AI workloads at production scale. Lumera Protocol represents the culmination of years of research and real-world learnings from Pastel, rebuilt as a stronger and more flexible network.

Cascade, Inference, and Sense did not disappear — they were re-architected, upgraded, and unified under Lumera’s Proof of Service model, delivering the same core primitives on a more performant and extensible foundation.

This journey strengthened the network’s identity and sharpened its mission, bringing together builders, validators, partners, and supporters around a shared vision for what decentralized infrastructure can become. As we close the year, Lumera enters its next chapter with clarity, momentum, and a growing sense of possibility for what lies ahead.

Below is a recap of 2025 and our 2026 roadmap 🚀🌕

Business & Ecosystem

2025 was a year of steady, coordinated execution across the Lumera ecosystem — one defined by validator alignment, network activation, and the rollout of core infrastructure in deliberate stages. Each quarter marked a meaningful step forward, moving from early testnet engagement to mainnet launch, and ultimately to the activation of Lumera’s modular service stack. What began as validator interest and ecosystem preparation evolved into a fully live, production-grade network with growing participation, deeper partner alignment, and expanding real-world utility.

Q1 2025: Validator Alignment and Early Wallet Support

The first quarter of 2025 focused on generating support for Lumera’s testnet and early ecosystem engagement. Validator interest exceeded expectations, with over 200 validators expressing intent to run nodes on the testnet. This early momentum reflected growing confidence in Lumera’s architecture and tokenomics. Simultaneously, the team worked closely with multichain wallet providers to secure early support, ensuring that users would have seamless access to LUME from day one using wallets they already know and trust. These initiatives laid the foundation for a smooth transition to mainnet and set the stage for early adoption of Lumera’s modular services.

Q2 2025: Testnet Launch and the First Signals of Market Confidence

The first major milestone following the migration was the launch of the Lumera Protocol testnet in Q2. This release represented the first opportunity for the ecosystem to engage with Lumera as a standalone network, independent of Pastel.

At launch, Lumera successfully onboarded to testnet 40 top-tier validators, including Ubik Capital, Cosmostation, Allnodes, Citadel One, Nansen, and more. Demand far exceeded expectations, within the first two weeks, over 200 validators expressed interest in joining the network. This oversubscription highlights the strong confidence in Lumera’s architecture, modular infrastructure, and long-term vision, signaling a robust start for the network’s independent ecosystem.

Early adoption of the SuperNode layer also began during this phase, with operators preparing to support the delivery of Lumera’s modular services. Wallet integrations with Keplr and Cosmostation followed, ensuring that participants could engage with the new network using familiar tools.

Q3 2025: Mainnet Launch and the Lumera Hub

Q3 marked a major milestone with the successful launch of Lumera Mainnet. With mainnet live, Lumera activated its Proof-of-Stake model, enabling staking, rewards, governance, and validator participation across the network.

Alongside mainnet, Lumera introduced the Lumera Hub, a user-friendly gateway designed to give the ecosystem direct visibility into everything Lumera offers. Through the Hub, users can manage wallets, participate in governance, and view on-chain transactions, while gaining clear access to Lumera’s growing feature set in one unified interface. The Hub was built to lower friction, making it easy for users, partners, and operators to explore and interact with the network without deep technical overhead.

Validator momentum continued to build throughout the quarter, with operators such as Allnodes, Citadel One, Polkachu, Cosmostation, Ubik Capital, and Luganodes joining mainnet.

From an ecosystem perspective, mainnet launch combined with the Lumera Hub changed how partners and users engaged with the protocol. Lumera was no longer something to evaluate conceptually, it became something that could be experienced directly, through a live network and an intuitive interface built for real participation.

Q4 2025: Activating Lumera’s Modular Infrastructure

Q4 completed Lumera’s transformation from a live blockchain into a fully operational infrastructure protocol.

During the quarter, Lumera launched Cascade, its decentralized permanent storage module, on mainnet. This activation enabled partners and developers to begin storing data using Lumera’s upgraded storage architecture — designed for redundancy, permanence, and verifiability.

In parallel, SuperNodes were fully activated, bringing Lumera’s Proof of Service model online. These SuperNodes power Lumera’s modular services across Cascade, Inference, and Sense, delivering the throughput and reliability required for real-world usage.

To support this operator layer, Lumera launched the SuperNode Program, a structured initiative designed to onboard and support operators interested in running SuperNodes. This program accelerated decentralization, strengthened service capacity, and laid the groundwork for sustainable network growth.

Community Development

2025 was a formative year for the Lumera community. A period where education, transparency, and participation became central to the network’s evolution. Throughout the year, members played an increasingly active role in migration planning, validator engagement, launch preparation, and ecosystem outreach, which helped shape Lumera’s direction while strengthening trust and alignment across the network.

From online discussions and campaign participation to in-person events and global ecosystem forums, the community’s voice grew louder and more coordinated. By year-end, Lumera had not only expanded its reach, but also cultivated a committed, informed, and highly engaged community prepared to help lead the protocol into its next phase of growth.

Q1 2025: Education, Trust & Early Momentum

Q1 focused on strengthening community foundations and preparing members for the transition from Pastel to Lumera. Engagement initiatives emphasized transparency, education, and rewarding early participation.

The introduction of Pastel 2.0, the predecessor to Lumera, created new incentives for active community members through quests, events, and ongoing engagement. A dedicated AMA on Pastel’s transition brought the community directly into the conversation, addressing migration timelines, validator roles, and the impact on token holders.

Community presence extended beyond digital channels, with strong participation at ETH Denver and collaborative X Spaces alongside other Web3 projects, reinforcing relationships and expanding awareness within the broader ecosystem.

Q2 2025: Activation, Growth & Ecosystem Alignment

Q2 marked a major engagement milestone with the official introduction of Lumera Protocol. The announcement energized long-time supporters and welcomed a wave of new community members eager to participate in Lumera’s next chapter.

Momentum accelerated through the Road to Mainnet campaign, which invited the community to actively contribute through quests, challenges, and XP-based rewards. Live Twitter/X AMAs strengthened two-way communication with the team, while airdrop collaborations with validator partners Forbole, BlockHunters, and Helios Staking incentivized wallet creation, staking, and ongoing participation.

In-person engagement at Permissionless 2025 further deepened community connections, allowing supporters to meet the team, share feedback, and introduce Lumera’s vision to a wider Web3 audience.

Ecosystem growth will be supported through offline events, hackathons, and developer activations, alongside continued partnerships across Cosmos, EVM, and SVM ecosystems and expanded centralized exchange listings.

Q4 2026

The year concludes with the introduction of the MCP layer, further expanding Lumera’s modular architecture. Partnerships and SuperNode onboarding continue, supported by an additional multichain wallet integration to close out the year.

Closing Perspective

2025 was not about growth at any cost. It was about building the right network.

By migrating off Pastel Network and launching Lumera Protocol as a standalone infrastructure layer, the project reset its technical and economic foundations. With validators, SuperNodes, storage, and core services now live, Lumera exited 2025 with a fully operational, modular infrastructure and a platform built for durability rather than experimentation.

And now, as we look ahead, 2026 is the year Lumera comes alive. As Lumera enters this phase of expansion, the protocol will also increase its commitment to transparency by publishing quarterly network metrics beginning in 2026. These reports will provide clear visibility into network performance, usage, and health, reinforcing Lumera’s focus on accountability, data-driven growth, and long-term trust with its community, partners, and stakeholders. With the core network in place, the focus shifts from foundation-building to real-world adoption — enabling seamless integrations across ecosystems, supporting production-grade applications, and deepening partnerships across the validator, SuperNode, and developer communities. Lumera enters this next chapter positioned for sustainable growth, meaningful collaboration, and long-term impact — unlocking the transformative potential of decentralized infrastructure.

We’re excited to announce that Lumera Protocol now has basic support from Chainalysis, a major step toward broader ecosystem adoption and compliance.

This support enables us to work more effectively with on- and off-ramps, paving the way for exchanges, custodians, and other service providers to integrate Lumera safely and responsibly. By leveraging Chainalysis’ industry-standard analytics and compliance tooling, Lumera can offer partners the visibility and risk management tools they need to operate with confidence.

Why It Matters

Basic Chainalysis support positions Lumera for responsible growth in the crypto ecosystem:

  • Exchanges and custodians can more easily onboard LUME with standard compliance checks
  • On/off ramps can integrate Lumera safely for users converting between fiat and crypto
  • Builders and partners gain confidence knowing the chain adheres to recognized analytics standards

Looking Ahead

This integration is an early, but crucial step. As Lumera expands its mainnet capabilities, including Cascade storage, wallet functionality, and staking, we’ll continue building partnerships and integrations that make Lumera a trusted, compliant, and accessible platform for both Web3 developers and Web2 enterprises.

We look forward to sharing more updates as these integrations go live and continue to support the growth of the Lumera ecosystem.

About Lumera Protocol

Lumera Protocol is a high-performance blockchain purpose-built for AI-driven Web3 economies, integrating a Validator-SuperNode architecture to enable decentralized AI services, trustless computation, and secure data storage. Built on cometBFT Proof-of-Stake (PoS), Lumera ensures cross-chain compatibility, efficient AI data sharing, and scalable interoperability.

At its core, Lumera’s SuperNode-powered infrastructure extends beyond validation to support LLM hosting, autonomous agents, task verification, and cross-network communication, with governance driven by a stake-weighted system. Its adaptive tokenomics dynamically adjust inflation based on network participation, ensuring economic sustainability.

Lumera also introduces an Action & Agent Framework, powering decentralized AI services through specialized Actions (e.g., Cascade for storage, Sense for verification) and Agents (e.g., Inference for AI computation). By merging AI, decentralized computation, and blockchain security, Lumera sets a new standard for AI-powered applications and autonomous services in Web3.

As we approach the next milestone for the Lumera Protocol, we’re excited to share an update on the Lumera SuperNode Program and what it means for the health and stability of the network. Starting December 19, 2025, the program will officially open, and the Foundation will begin reviewing applications for the first cohort of SuperNode operators. If you are interested, please apply here.

SuperNodes are critical to the Lumera ecosystem — they support modular services like CascadeSense, and Inference. Because these nodes play such an important role, we are taking deliberate steps to ensure the early mainnet network is robust, reliable, and secure.

Cohort-Based Onboarding for Reliability

To maintain network stability and ensure careful monitoring, SuperNodes will be onboarded in monthly cohorts once LEP-4 is live, which is expected on January 5, 2026. Each month, a new group of approved participants will be activated on the network and receive their Foundation delegation of 25,000 LUME to support node operations.

This phased approach allows the team to:

  • Evaluate network health and performance in real-time
  • Confirm operators are meeting operational expectations
  • Gradually expand the set of active SuperNodes while maintaining reliability

By onboarding operators in batches after LEP-4 launches, we can proactively manage the network’s growth while preventing unexpected disruptions during this critical launch phase.

What is LEP-4?

LEP-4, or the Lumera Enhancement Proposal 4, introduces a robust on-chain health monitoring system for SuperNodes. Its purpose is to ensure that only healthy, reliable nodes participate in the network, and it does so in a flexible and non-punitive way.

Key features of LEP-4 include:

  • Periodic Self-Reporting: SuperNodes submit operational metrics (CPU, memory, storage, uptime, network ports, and software version) on-chain at regular intervals.
  • Compliance Checks: Metrics are validated against configurable thresholds. Nodes that do not meet these requirements are temporarily marked as POSTPONED and excluded from active selection.
  • Automatic Recovery: Nodes that fix issues and resubmit compliant metrics automatically regain active status.
  • Governance-Controlled Parameters: Network administrators can update thresholds for hardware, resource usage, and software versions via governance proposals.
  • Transparency & Observability: LEP-4 provides on-chain visibility into network health, making it easier to monitor compliance and performance across all SuperNodes.

By implementing LEP-4, Lumera ensures network reliability and consistency while minimizing manual intervention. This system complements our phased SuperNode onboarding, creating a secure and resilient mainnet launch.

What’s Next for Applicants

Applications open December 19, 2025, and selections will begin immediately after review. Cohort onboarding will start after LEP-4 goes live on January 5, 2026. Participants accepted into the program will be notified of their cohort placement and next steps.

We encourage anyone interested in supporting Lumera’s modular ecosystem to apply. Running a SuperNode is not only an opportunity to contribute to the network but also to actively participate in shaping the future of Lumera Protocol.

The Lumera SuperNode Program is designed with network health, reliability, and decentralization at its core. By carefully managing onboarding and rolling out LEP-4 for on-chain health monitoring, we are laying the foundation for a resilient and high-performing mainnet from day one.
