Highland Malt, The Macallan, Distilled on new year’s eve of 1939, Gordon & MacPhail in Elgin, Scotland. My lucky number Decanter No. 11. I wonder what happened to that bottle.

It was a special night in a place that had hosted every President since Nixon, James Bond, and numerous other movies shot here. The building was demolished in 2015 and relaunched in 2019. I haven’t been to the new one yet, but I will note it for my next visit to Tokyo. As it was such a special moment in time, I’ve included a few more photos from that night, which I spent with my friends Om, Naveen, Jane, and a gentleman whose name I unfortunately cannot recall.

She’s a Coton du Tulear that my Mom got last month, but has really captured my heart.

Tony leaves an indelible impression on everyone his life crosses paths with. I first saw him speak in 2008, and his approach to being customer centric, questioning assumptions of business, and building a purpose-driven culture had a deep influence on me. I noticed that almost every picture I have of Tony we’re in a group, and it was almost always a meal or trip that ended up being memorable thanks to the frisson Tony’s presence would engender. He was always such singular character, I was looking forward to seeing him grow old and his eccentricities continue to ferment and evolve. He is gone before his time, and I hope his memories continue to grow and inspire us to find the magic on the other side of our comfort zone.

We’ve come such a long way.
