Code of Conduct & Participation Guidelines

1. Purpose

MelbourneHack 2025 is designed to be a collaborative, creative, and inclusive space for all participants. These guidelines ensure a respectful environment where everyone can learn, innovate, and enjoy the event.

By registering for MelbourneHack 2025, all participants agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and the participation rules outlined below.

 

 

2. Respect and Inclusivity
  • Treat all participants, mentors, volunteers, sponsors, and organizers with respect.

  • Discrimination, harassment, or offensive behavior (verbal, written, or visual) will not be tolerated.

  • We celebrate diversity: participants of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels are welcome.

Examples of unacceptable behavior include but are not limited to:

  • Intimidation, threats, or abusive language

  • Offensive jokes, gestures, or imagery

  • Unwelcome sexual attention or advances

  • Disrespect of differing opinions, experiences, or technical skills

 

 

3. Collaboration and Fair Play
  • Teams must consist of 1–4 registered participants.

  • Participants may only be on one team.

  • Collaboration between teams is encouraged in spirit, but submissions must be the original work of your team.

  • Plagiarism or misrepresentation of work (e.g., copying existing projects without attribution) is not allowed.

  • Respect venue rules, equipment, and provided resources.

 

 

4. Participation Rules
  • Registration: All participants must register and sign up for a HackMelbourne membership.

  • Problem Statements: Released during the Opening Ceremony. Projects must address the statement for the chosen track.

  • Workshops: Open to all participants; attendance is optional but encouraged.

  • Submissions:

    • Due by Monday 1st September, 11:59pm (AEST)

    • Must include: project code, documentation, and a short description/pitch

  • Judging: Independent judges will review submissions based on creativity, technical implementation, and relevance to the track challenge.

 

 

5. Communication and Conduct Online
  • Official announcements and livestream links will be shared on the HackMelbourne Discord server.

  • Use channels responsibly:

    • Keep discussions relevant and respectful.

    • No spam, hate speech, or disruptive behavior.

  • Report any issues to moderators or organizers immediately.

 

 

6. Support and Reporting

If you experience or witness a breach of this Code of Conduct:

  • Contact an organizer or volunteer in person during the event.

  • Or report privately via the designated Discord channel/emai

Organizers will investigate and take appropriate action, which may include warnings, removal from the event, or escalation to authorities if necessary.

 

 

7. Consequences

Violating these guidelines may result in:

  • Warning from organizers

  • Removal from the event and/or HackMelbourne community spaces

  • Disqualification of your team’s project

Decisions by the organizing committee are final.

 

 

8. Acknowledgement

By participating in MelbourneHack 2025, you agree to uphold these values of respect, fairness, and collaboration. Together, we can make this one of the best hackathons in Melbourne!
