]]>But cloud is not just about regulatory approval, it’s about performance, resilience, and innovation. Leading financial institutions are already leveraging the 99.99% uptime, real-time scalability, and predictable costs of providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. These platforms are built to meet the highest global standards for security, data protection, and compliance, enabling institutions to focus less on infrastructure and more on the strategic edge it provides.
For many financial institutions, the consideration isn’t just about regulation. It’s about trust, control, and maintaining full oversight. And that’s understandable. Moving core banking systems to the cloud feels like a big step, especially in an industry where compliance, business continuity, and customer trust are everything.
Cloud represents the next evolution in secure, scalable core banking systems. You gain better business continuity, faster product rollouts, and peace of mind, knowing your systems are secure and scalable without the overhead of managing servers yourself.
The Musoni core banking system has been securely hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for over 10 years, on enterprise-grade infrastructure trusted by financial institutions, governments, and regulated industries globally. We handle the heavy lifting so you don’t have to. From enterprise-grade security and automatic backups to real-time scalability and 99.99% uptime, you get a system that’s reliable, secure, and built to grow with you without worrying about servers or local outages.

And here’s the exciting part, hosting is included in our pricing. That means no more budgeting for hardware, server rooms, backup systems, or dedicated IT staff to keep things running. We handle it all, so your team can focus on serving clients rather than maintaining infrastructure. It also makes costs more predictable, which is especially important for financial institutions working within tight budgets.
Today, over 70 financial institutions across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa use the Musoni System. We appreciate that compliance matters, and that is why we work closely with each partner to meet their unique local regulatory needs.
If you’re evaluating your options, that’s okay. Let’s talk. We’ll walk you through what cloud really means, how it aligns with your regulator’s expectations, and how it can move your financial institution forward, not set it back. The real opportunity isn’t whether cloud is allowed; it’s how it can support your institution’s growth, enhance access, provide operational visibility, and long-term success.

]]>“Aloi’s innovative approach to digitally monitored financing perfectly complements Musoni’s commitment to financial inclusion,” says Sander van Heijden, CEO of Musoni System. “Their cashless, transparent lending system addresses one of the challenges our partner institutions face, how to serve informal sector clients who lack traditional credit histories or collateral, without the high costs and risks that often make such lending unviable.”
Across the world, more than 90 million informal entrepreneurs ranging from street vendors to smallholder farmers, collectively generate an estimated $10 trillion every year. Yet, many remain out of sight for traditional financial institutions, excluded by strict credit requirements that don’t reflect their realities. For microfinance institutions, the challenge is equally pressing: monitoring these small loans can consume as much as a quarter of the loan value, making it difficult to serve these clients sustainably and at scale.

Aloi changes that. Their closed-loop token technology has already facilitated over $1 million in loans through 28 financial institutions, cutting monitoring costs dramatically and ensuring every loan is traceable, transparent, and impactful. But to take this innovation global, they needed a partner with proven banking infrastructure, and that’s where Musoni comes in.
With Musoni’s core banking system, Aloi partners gain;
For Musoni’s partner microfinance institutions, the benefits are equally game-changing;
By combining Aloi’s innovative monitoring technology with Musoni’s core banking system, we’re enabling financial institutions to reach more entrepreneurs, operate more efficiently, and help build stronger, more inclusive economies.
“Our partnership with Musoni allows us to scale our impact across Asia, Africa, and beyond,” says Tiffany Tong, Co-Founder and CEO of Aloi. “Musoni’s deep understanding of microfinance operations, combined with our technology, creates a powerful platform for responsible lending to communities that have traditionally been left out.”
But the story extends beyond finance. Aloi’s conditional tokens platform can power for-purpose wallets dedicated to essentials such as healthcare, education, and clean water. For example, community-generated carbon credits can be converted into verified revenues and channelled directly into local priorities, ensuring that the value created stays within and strengthens the community.
Musoni provides the right tools so, even the smallest entrepreneurs can spark the biggest changes.

]]>The turning point came when they partnered with Musoni System as their core banking provider, a decision that would transform not just their operations but their entire way of working across the country.
A major milestone in their digital journey was the rollout of Musoni’s Digital Field Application (DFA), designed to digitise core tasks traditionally handled by field officers. Today, over 75% of client onboarding and loan processing is conducted through the DFA, enabling field officers to operate efficiently on any Android device online or offline without relying on paperwork. This has significantly reduced turnaround times, improved data accuracy, and empowered Phoenix Capital’s teams to serve clients more effectively in the field.

The transformation has been remarkable! What used to take our team days to process now happens in hours, and our field officers can serve clients in the most remote areas without connectivity concerns,” said Tom Mutuku, Head of Systems, Phoenix Capital. “Musoni’s platform hasn’t just optimised our operations; it’s fundamentally changed how we deliver financial services to communities across Kenya.”
Phoenix Capital’s digital transformation has been further accelerated through the use of Musoni’s open APIs, which allow seamless integration between the core banking system and third-party solutions, creating a comprehensive, connected financial ecosystem. One key integration is with M-Pesa, enabling mobile loan disbursements and repayments.
Clients can now apply for loans directly from their phones and receive funds instantly in their mobile wallets. With business loans making up 80% of their portfolio, this level of automation has significantly improved speed, accessibility, and convenience for customers seeking financing.
“With Musoni’s APIs and responsive support, we quickly integrated our platforms and delivered unified digital experiences to our customers. What once took weeks now takes just days, enabling us to respond faster to client needs, scale our services effortlessly, and enhance our ability to deliver comprehensive digital financial solutions across Kenya,” said Tom Mutuku, Head of Systems, Phoenix Capital.

]]>The post Minutes, not days – how Qupa transformed microfinance for 23,000 Zimbabweans appeared first on Musoni Digitalisation Partner for Microfinance.
]]>They weren’t after just another system upgrade. Qupa was seeking a full transformation in how they served their community. After evaluating several platforms, they chose Musoni’s cloud-based, API-first system not only for its robust capabilities but for the flexibility to bring their vision of modern microfinance to life.
Musoni stood out for more than just our cloud core banking system. With a strong track record in Zimbabwe and a solid reputation among MFIs in the country, Musoni was the clear choice. Our local credibility in the microfinance sector, backed by over 10 years of proven reliability, gave Qupa the confidence they needed to take the leap into full digitalisation.
The implementation journey exceeded all our expectations. Rather than relying heavily on external support, Qupa’s team took initiative, studying Musoni’s documentation, testing features, and configuring workflows independently. Their deep understanding of both their business needs and the Musoni platform made for a seamless integration.
With a strong digital foundation in place, Qupa introduced their Nano loan product providing small, fast loans perfect for school fees, medical emergencies, or restocking a small business. A key success factor? Qupa took full ownership of their transformation, combining technical know-how with a deep understanding of their client needs.

“They didn’t just implement a system, they built their future on top of our platform. It’s rare to see that level of initiative and clarity from any organisation, let alone one managing such a complex migration,” said Noeleen Nakuhmwa, Musoni Implementation Specialist
Leveraging this foundation, Qupa now uses the Musoni loan module to support both individual entrepreneurs and community-based lending circles, broadening their reach and deepening their impact across multiple client segments.
Using Musoni’s Open APIs, they migrated their entire client base of 23,000+ clients with zero downtime, zero data loss, and zero disruption. A process that takes many MFIs months, Qupa accomplished in a short time.
This same API-first architecture also empowered Qupa to enhance client access and deliver on their promise of convenience. By seamlessly integrating with third-party systems, they were able to roll out customer-facing innovations, including:
“Before, our clients had to visit our offices, fill out forms, and wait days for loan approval. Now they can get a Nano loan approved and funded in minutes, right from their mobile phone. This isn’t just convenience, it’s life-changing for people who need emergency funds for school fees or medical expenses,” said Lackson Chikede, Operations Manager, Qupa
Today, Qupa serves over 23,000 clients through a fully digital infrastructure. Loan processing that once took days now happens in minutes. They didn’t have the biggest budget or longest track record, but they had vision, capability, and commitment. They’ve shown what digital microfinance can truly look like, not just in theory, but in action.
Want to be the next success story? Let’s talk about how Musoni can help you serve your clients better, faster, and more efficiently with technology that works for you.

]]>
Prior to this integration, CEVI relied on manual processes to transfer loan data from Musoni to Kiva, an international nonprofit that tackles financial inequality by connecting people through crowdfunded loans. Kiva also simplifies reporting by providing transparency, allowing financiers to see the real-world impact of their contributions to the financial organizations they support, which in turn serve underserved communities. The manual data entry process was time-consuming, prone to errors and posed a risk to CEVI’s credibility with Kiva.
This integration utilized n8n, a workflow automation tool that leveraged Musoni’s APIs to connect with Kiva, enabling the automation of the entire loan-to-repayment process and reporting. The simplicity of connecting Musoni’s APIs with platforms like Kiva underscores the adaptability, flexibility and user-friendly design of the Musoni system. This capability has allowed our customers to link effortlessly with third-party systems, transforming complex workflows into smooth, efficient processes.
Key integration components in detail:

“Integrating Musoni with Kiva using n8n has been a game-changer for CEVI. What used to take hours of manual data entry is now automated, significantly reducing errors and improving reporting accuracy. This has saved us valuable time and strengthened our transparency with funders, allowing us to focus more on empowering micro-entrepreneurs. With this efficiency, we can better serve our communities and scale our impact,” said Noel M Canete, CEVI IT Manager
The results of this integration have seen a drop in the operational costs for CEVI and a reduced requirement for manual data entry, thus achieving high accuracy for their Kiva reports and further improving the turnaround time on loan processing for micro-entrepreneurs. Additionally, this integration has enhanced CEVI’s efficiency and strengthened their ability to support local entrepreneurs effectively.

]]>Across many financial institutions worldwide, loan officers are out in the field, meeting potential clients, walking around with documents and asking clients to fill out their loan application forms. Hours later, they return to the office to manually enter the data in the system, only to realize that some clients who applied for loans do not meet the credit eligibility criteria. Meaning all that time and effort has gone to waste.
The time loan officers spend travelling, filling out paperwork, and completing data entry can be eliminated through the digitalisation of operations. Implementing digital platforms like the Musoni Core Banking System allows financial institutions to integrate with credit scoring services as well as credit reference bureaus.

This integration is important in decision-making at the point of contact with the client by performing real-time assessments of loan applications as part of preliminary on-site approvals which loan officers do. For financial institutions, this is helpful to avoid investing in additional effort, time, and money for loan applicants who are immediately flagged as ineligible.
Loan officers can digitalise operations using Musoni in 2 ways:
Both channels effectively eliminate the traditional limitations of field-based lending by enabling immediate eligibility assessment and decision-making directly at the point of client interaction, while transforming what was once a time-consuming manual process into a streamlined digital workflow.
Once a loan application is submitted through either channel, the system automatically processes it in the background through the following steps:

The n8n workflow automation plays a pivotal role in streamlining the loan application process by facilitating seamless communication between the various systems. Key functions include:
By automating these tasks, n8n significantly boosts operational efficiency, and reduces manual intervention and human error, while ensuring a secure, consistent, and reliable loan approval workflow from start to finish.
Our ultimate goal is to make financial institutions more agile, efficient, and customer-centric. With Musoni’s integration capability, we believe we’re driving positive change in the financial sector, one institution at a time.
