Our Best Display Yet: 14″ 16:10 Touchscreen

The new NexDock is built around a 14-inch-class WUXGA (1920×1200) 16:10 touchscreen panel with 100% sRGB color coverage. Compared to previous generations, the screen is:

• Sharper, thanks to the 1920×1200 16:10 panel

• Brighter, with a typical 400-nit brightness (340–460 nits range), making it much more comfortable in brighter rooms

• More accurate in color, with 100% sRGB and a 1000:1 contrast ratio for richer, more lifelike images

• Easier on the eyes, thanks to a low-blue-light, fine anti-glare matte surface that cuts reflections

Community testers from r/SamsungDex called it “much better than the 360” in terms of brightness and color reproduction and immediately noticed the difference in side-by-side comparisons.

Louder, Clearer Speakers

Audio has gotten a serious upgrade too. The new NexDock now features 2× 2W bottom-firing speakers that are noticeably louder and fuller than previous generations.

It’s not meant to replace a home theater system—but for YouTube, Netflix, calls, and everyday use, it’s a big step forward.

Battery Life & Bonus Docking Feature

Inside, the new NexDock carries a 38Wh battery, delivering around 6–7 hours of real-world use (video, browsing, work) at medium brightness when the connected phone isn’t being charged.

When you do want to charge your device, the USB-C video port can optionally back-feed power to your phone or handheld. We’ve improved this from 5V/1A to 5V/2A, so it now tops up your device noticeably faster while you work or play.

Bonus: When NexDock is plugged into power, it can keep charging your connected USB devices even when the lapdock is turned off, acting more like a true USB-C dock on your desk.

As a small startup with no outside funding, we encounter numerous obstacles in building and promoting new products for our vision which is a world where you carry only your smartphone as your primary computer. Today we bring you some good and bad news about the progress along the way.

NexMonitor development is on halt

The bad news is despite all our efforts, we have not been able to generate sufficient interest and pre-orders to proceed with the production of NexMonitor. Consequently we have made the difficult decision to halt its development until we secure external funding.

We will cancel and refund all pre-orders for NexMonitor immediately. Please open a ticket if you don’t receive your refund until June 20, 2023.

Pricing and Pre-Orders

In order to proceed with mass manufacturing of NexDock XL, we are launching a pre-order campaign for the product. During the campaign, customers can secure their NexDock XL by making a partial down payment of $100. The price of NexDock XL will be the same as Wireless $349 US Dollars (*) + shipping (**) throughout the duration of the campaign.

(*) Pricing may vary after VAT and/or import taxes are applied. US customers are exempt from any additional taxes.

(**) Shipping rates will be adjusted per the current market rates at the time of shipment.

Transparency is our priority, and we will openly display the number of units pre-ordered on our website. Once we reach a pre-order threshold of 1,000 units, we will proceed with immediate mass manufacturing, a process estimated to take approximately 90 days. At the time of shipping, we will kindly request the remaining balance to be paid.

It is important to mention that while our industrial designers have designed the new NexDock XL, financial constraints prevented us from funding the private tooling process. As a result, we made the decision to share our design with the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). Consequently, there is a possibility that other companies may attempt to market a product with a similar design under their own branding prior to our mass manufacturing.

We know that everyone is being overwhelmed by the updates due to Covid19 and a lot is happening right now! Although we are getting our own share of complex and impactful challenges like many others, we are happy to continue our commitment to all our customers around the world. We’d like to share the latest updates about the NexDock Touch as well as our upcoming product, NexDock 360!

The struggles we have been having since earlier this year….

We can categorize the 3 major difficulties we’ve been dealing with as follows:

1.      Delays in Delivery: Even though we only used prime couriers such as FedEx, DHL, UPS, TNT, etc. for the 1st batch shipments of NexDock Touch, we unfortunately observed huge delays. To our frustration, some of our customers received their devices 4-5 weeks after delivery. The problem with the carriers continues due to new COVID-19 waves surging around the world making delivery dates less and less predictable.

2.      Increased Cargo Prices: Compared to the beginning of 2020, the shipping cost of the prime couriers at least doubled or even tried tripled in some cases. This doesn’t allow us us to ship packages directly from Hong Kong at a reasonable cost anymore.

3.      Backlog on components required for manufacturing: With more and more people working and socializing remotely, there has been a huge increase in demand for laptops in 2020. Big OEMs such as HP, Dell, Lenovo have millions of orders in backlog which makes the availability of some components a real challenge for smaller companies like ours.
In light of these developments, here is what the near future may look like…

NexDock Touch 2nd batch 

Unfortunately, we were not able to source enough number of 14.1 inch displays to fulfill 2nd batch of NexDock Touch pre-orders. However, we have developed an alternate solution for our customers.

NexDock 360 is coming soon…

The good news is that we were able to source 13.3 inch displays and secure expedited mass manufacturing for our new version, NexDock 360, which will be ready by mid-February.

Customers that pre-ordered NexDock Touch can now get their order as NexDock 360!

NexDock 360 will have a touch-screen display that can flip 360 degrees. It can be used in laptop, tablet, stand or tend mode with your smartphone or many other devices.

Compared to NexDock Touch and in addition to having the 360 flip feature, NexDock 360 will be lighter, smaller and have an OSD control panel on its touch-screen for volume, brightness contrast and even color temperature settings. You will also be able to enable/disable charging your phone any time through the same control panel.

NexDock 360 ships in March 2021 

The production of NexDock 360 will finish around mid-February. Because of the issues with express cargo shipments from Hong Kong explained above, we will ship all US and Europe orders in bulk via ocean. Following the import process, the inventory will be shipped within the respective continents via 3PL companies.

For our customers in Europe, the units will come with prepaid VAT, customs and duty, which would significantly lower the added costs of customs clearance.

For the rest of the countries in the world, we will continue shipping from Hong Kong via express couriers, but shipping costs may increase, on which you will be informed when the balance of your payment is due.

For the US and Europe customers, we will still provide an option to ship directly from Hong Kong earlier date, but every unit will be shipped with full insurance and prepaid taxes which might significantly increase shipping costs.

Payment of the remaining balance: 

Payment of the balance for NexDock 360 will be available at our website around mid-February. Please open a help desk ticket at secure.nexdock.com if you have any questions.

UPDATE: Due to manufacturing delays, NexDock 360 will start shipping by 15 July 2021.

We’d like to share the latest updates about our mass production of NexDock Touch: There will be a delay of 2 weeks and we confirmed with all our suppliers that all components will be on the assembly line by 3rd week of August. Based on our experience, we aim to start the shipping process for all orders by mid-September as opposed to the end of August that we originally anticipated.

As you all know, many international flights have been interrupted and borders have been closed due to COVID-19. This not only impacted the express cargo delivery times but also caused prices to double in some cases. We are happy to confirm that Nex Computer will honor the international shipping fees for all pre-orders as advertised before the pandemic. Unfortunately, we cannot control the availability and speed of cargo services in the coming months. We’ll keep everyone posted on the updates as shipment dates near.

On another note, we started receiving pre-production samples with finalized packaging and it’s looking good:

We almost depleted our stock from the 1st batch. We’ll soon start collecting pre-orders for our 2nd batch, which is planned to be shipped in December. There are a few changes to our mass production configuration:

International Keyboard Layouts

Unfortunately, we were not able to get enough pre-orders to reach the MOQ (minimum order quantity) to develop NexDocks with international keyboard layouts. Therefore, all NexDocks will come with the US keyboard layout. Luckily, we were able to build silicone keyboard covers with 8 different international keyboard layouts. If you ordered your NexDock with an international keyboard layout you will receive the silicone keyboard cover FREE of charge.

If you don’t want your Nexdock with a US keyboard layout and/or using silicone keyboard cover you can still cancel your pre-order and your deposit would be refunded back to your account.

Silicone keyboard covers work with both NexDock 2 and Touch versions. 8 different language layouts will be available on Amazon by October 2020.

Magnetic Side Mount

The manufacturing of magnetic side mounts started recently. They will not be ready before October 2020, so we are not able to offer them for sale at the moment. We changed the color of the side mount to black and are planning on making them available on Amazon by October 2020.
