Review for Raised by Wolves by James Patterson and Emily Raymond

Summary

Two teenagers walk out of the woods, dirty and starving.  They tell the small town sheriff they were raised by wolves.   The sheriff and his wife take the two kids in until they can figure out what truly happened to them.   Not everything is what it seems.   They’re just trying to save their family.

Opinion

I had no idea where this book was heading.   I love when that happens.   I will say when i started this book,  I couldn’t put it down.   It deals with a small town and the bullies that seem to be everywhere these days.

Rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Review for Bad Liar by Tami Hoag

Summary

This is the 3rd Bayou Breaux book.  The book picks up where The Boy ends. Annie has returned to work after being attacked.    She and Nick Fourcade are investigating 2 different missing persons and one possible murder.  As they both do their jobs,  they begin to realize that the cases are connected. And it begins to look like the Bayou Breaux PD may be involved in more than keeping the peace.  Annie and Nick must figure out both cases before someone else dies.

Opinion

I am a huge Tami Hoag fan.  I have been for a long time.   I listened to The Boy when it came out, and I loved the narrator.  Tami Hoag and brought back Hillary Hubar to narrate this one as well.  That had me rushing out to buy it as soon as I could.  I received the book as an ARC from netgalley, but I really wanted to listen to it as well.   I love how Hillary Hubar does the Cajun accent for Nick Fourcade.  She’s great at all the characters, but I especially love his.   Once I started this book,  I couldn’t stop until I finished it.   I promise if you love murder mysteries then you’ll love this book.   While you’re at it,  you should also listen or read The Boy.  As a bonus note,  there will be a fourth book to the series.  I can’t wait!

Review for On The Run by Iris Johansen

Summary

Kira Drake saves lives.  Her and her dog Mack does search and rescue.  She’s called to Paris after a bombing.   She’s paired up with Jack Harlan to go after the man responsible for the attack.  Along the way, she falls in love with him and his 15 year old niece.  They must work together to make sure his niece stays safe.

Opinion

Iris Johansen knows how to write about strong women.  I’ve always loved how she could write a story that the hero and heroine could work together and the heroine doesn’t get lost in the story.   She’s able to stand on her own.   This book is no different on that front.  Kira is independent and doesn’t need to be saved by anyone.

Thank you to NetGalley,  Iris Johansen, and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Review for The Survivor by Iris Johansen

Summary

Since Maya has been 16 years old, she has been responsible for an entire island and its inhabitants. Her nemesis Nadim is bound and determined to destroy not only Maya but also everything she holds dear. She is not used to asking people for help, but she knows she can’t save the island alone. She convinces her friends Riley and Cade to help, and by extension, Eve Duncan.

Opinion

Another great book by Iris Johansen.  She is,  hands down,  one of my favorite authors.  I have been reading her books since before she started the Eve Duncan series.  I love how she changes it up and brings other couples as a vocal point in the stories,  yet still hints on Eve and Joe.  She does a great job painting pictures for the imagination.   Even though this is an Eve Duncan story,  you don’t have to have read the other books in the series.   I definitely recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley,  Iris Johansen, and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Review for Identity by Nora Roberts

Summary

He’s not. He’s a serial killer, and he sets out to steal Morgan’s identity, her money, and her life. However, her best friend ends up dead instead, and Morgan loves. She’s shattered. She goes home to start rebuilding her life. She finds a job she loves, and slowly, things begin to look up. She meets a guy she falls had over heels for. But just when she thinks happily ever after might actually be in the cards for her, her past comes to finish what he started.

Opinion

I loved this book! It had me staying up way too late to finish it. Nora Roberts knows how to tell a story. She will keep you enthralled from the very first chapter. She’s always great at her trilogies, but I especially like her stand-alone books. This one has a lead female character that we would all like to be. She knows her mind and knows what it takes to get what she wants. If you like books with strong women, who can fight their own battles, then you’ll love this one.

Review of the Jane Hawk series by Dean Koontz

Book 1 – The Silent Corner

Book 2 – The Whispering Room

Book 3 – The Crooked Staircase

Book 4 – The Forbidden Door

Book 5 – The Night Window

Prequel novella – The Bone Farm

Summary

Jane Hawk’s husband killed himself. She’s determined to prove it was murder. The more she digs, the more she finds out the truth is more terrifying than she thought. A faction in society has decided they need to control the world, and their way to do that is by enslaving people they deem problematic with nano brain implants. Just as soon as she thinks she’s cut off the head of the snake, she finds another one. She’s fighting for her husband’s name, her life, and the life of her 5 years old son.

Opinion

My goodness, this man can write! It’s amazing how his brain works and his imagination is mine blowing. What makes his books so terrifying is that one day, it could happen. This series is one of the best series I’ve read in a long while. It’s action-packed, and it’s a woman kicking ass.

Rating – 5 out of 5 stars for the whole series.

Review for Desperate Acts by Alexandra Ivy

Summary

Book 4 in series about a small town in Wisconsin. Lia witnessed a woman jumping off a bridge 15 years ago. That body has now been found. It has set off a sequence of events that might bring her love, but also might get her killed. Kaden’s brothers fiancé disappeared 15 years ago, and not knowing what happened killed his brother. He’s determined to find out if the body is his brother’s girlfriend. He doesn’t care if his questions make the town uncomfortable.

Opinion

This book missed the mark with me. It isn’t a bad book. it’s just not a great book. I usually love Alexandra Ivy, but I had trouble getting into this one. Even though it is the 4th book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I will say it did have a twist that I didn’t see coming. I do recommend you read it and judge for yourself.

Review for “Written in Bone” by Sue Black

Summary

Sue Black is a forensic anthropologist. This book breaks down the skeleton and shows how each bone feels a story of how a person lives and dies. She gives examples of cases she has worked on and how she came to each conclusion.

Opinion

This book was fascinating. She goes through each area of the body and breaks down the bones. She puts a humorous spin on the book all the while showing respect for the deceased. The only hard part of this book is that there are stories about children and babies. It can be hard to take, especially knowing they are true. If you enjoy learning while you’re entertained, then I recommend this book. I’ve always been fascinated by the science side of true crime, and this book did not disappoint. However, if you get bored with knowing how a conclusion is achieved, this may not be for you. I’m a nurse and enjoyed hearing about how our bones can feel a story.

Review for “Verity” by Colleen Hoover

Summary

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer who just lost her mother to cancer. She’s gets an offer she can’t refuse. She’s offered the chance to finish a series that was created by the best-selling author Verity Crawford. Verity was injured in a devastating car accident.

She goes to her home to begin shifting through Verity’s notes and life. In the process, she finds a manuscript detailing Verity’s life and the loss of her twin daughters. Lowen discovers that the deaths were not an accident. She also discovers she has feelings for Verity’s husband. Nothing is what it seems.

Opinion

This book will make you angry and, in the next breath, get you hot and bothered. It has some of the steamiest sex scenes I’ve read in a while. It does give you “Gone Girl” vibes, though. I listened to this as an audiobook, so I didn’t get the bonus chapter. I did find the chapter online. I prefer the book without the new addition. I am a little late to the Colleen Hoover bandwagon, but what a bandwagon it is. If you love twisted stories, then this book is for you.

Rating – 5 stars out of 5 without the new ending. 4 stars with the new ending.

Review for “The Suspect” by Kathryn Croft

Summary

When Jess was 2 years old, her mother was murdered in front of her. 28 years later, the man they say killed her mother hunts her down. He says he didn’t kill her mother, and nothing is what it seems. When he ends up dead, she must find out what happened. The more she digs, the more she realizes she can’t trust anyone.

Opinion

I listened to the audiobook for this one. I absolutely loved it. Hands down one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. Kathryn Croft has written a book that will blow you away, and Tamsin Kennard did a fantastic job narrating. She brings the book to life.
