• What is a hackathon?

  A hackathon is an event where you get together with other creative people and build projects, learn new skills, and network. This time around, it's a focused, short period of coding, teamwork, and problem-solving. But in general, hackathons are not limited to just coding!
• What are the rules?

  Please refer to the NorseHacks Code of Conduct.
• I've never been to a hackathon. What should I expect?

  Expect a fast-paced weekend of creativity, collaboration and learning. You'll meet new people, build awesome projects, and gain real-world innovation experience. After an opening ceremony, you'll form a team and brainstorm ideas based on your chosen track. On Saturday, you'll work in coding spaces with mentors available to answer questions and help with debugging. By Sunday, you'll wrap up your project and demo it to judges, with winners announced at the closing ceremony.
• How will the hybrid format of the hackathon work?

  You can join either online or in person, whichever you prefer. Online projects will be judged virtually while in-person are judged on site. All workshops and events are available in both formats so you won't miss anything!
• How long will the hackathon last?

  The hackathon begins Saturday noon, January 24th, after the opening ceremony. It will end Sunday noon on the 25th, followed by judging and the closing ceremony.
• Do I need to pay to join?

  You don't need to pay anything! All workshops, resources, and activities are provided for free.
• Do I have to attend every workshop or social event?

  Attendance in workshops and social events is optional. Pick sessions that interest you most and you'll have a great experience.
• How much coding experience do I need?

  You don't need to be a pro! Beginners are welcome and there is support and resources for all skill levels.
• How can I find a team?

  Join our discord server and create a DevPost account. Viking Hackathon Club will provide additional support and structure closer to the event to help you connect with your team!
• How big are teams?

  Teams are 2-4 people.
• Do I need to be in a team?

  You don't need to be in a team to participate and make your own project, but working in a team has its own perks!
• What types of projects can I make?

  You can create almost anything you're interested in. We encourage you to build something you haven't made before, and to build from a values-based place. Consider problems within your community or interests and how a clever tech solution might help.
• Who will be judging the projects?

  Judges are experienced professionals and mentors from tech and related fields. Your project will be evaluated based on creativity, technical depth, and how well it solves a problem. Judges are looking for effort and originality, not perfection.
