This weekend I worked a few hours on Saturday, and then spent pretty much all other time in ffxiv. I've mostly been working on crafts and gathering jobs, but I also got to 66 on my Black Mage. I still don't really understand how Enochian works now, but I will probably learn eventually. I saved a few sidequests from when I levelled Monk (which is my main), so that is helping me not have to run dungeons all the time. I opened up all the Beast Tribe quests and I'm happy to see one of those is for crafts and gathering jobs.

I am not feeling The Kingdom of Copper, so I'm defaulting to the Malazan books until Leckie's new book is out. In March there should be lots to read.

This weekend I got all three gathering jobs to 63, finished the normal versions of the Omega raid series and crafted quite a bit. Today especially I listened to my audiobook and crafted and gathered a LOT. It was very nice.

I slept well. I went to get a haircut on Friday and it's quite short now instead of that tired ponytail. I hope this week will be really good.

FYI, season 3 will be up on Prime on February 8th and I *think* this is internationally, so if you have Amazon Prime, you should be able to watch the entire series streaming then. No excuses, mark your calendar because you'll want to binge it.

I love The Expanse and very much do want to watch season 3! I... don't think I watched season 2, because I didn't have a good source for it. I guess I'll have to see when the time comes. :)

Today I got the top entry litter boxes I ordered a few days ago. Serendipitously the delivery person who delivered a package to work recognized my name and had the litter boxes also. If he hadn't, I'd have had to wait and schedule delivery later, so yay! I just exchanged the both old ones I had for the new ones, and Esfir and Bedelia have both investigated and used them. They're pretty big - made for big cats - and seem easy for them to use.

I'm now on book 12 of Foreigner. I want this series to go on forever.

I blocked my shawl and it is beautiful (pictures here). Really looking forward to wearing it!

I went home early and have spent the afternoon listening to my book. I'm on book 11 now on Foreigner and it's still so much fun! It was really cold yesterday and while it's not today, it's still not very warm inside at work or at home. Cardigans and mittens and shawls. And my heater at home.

This weekend I finished my Wild Swan mkal (there's an unblocked picture on my Ravelry) and bound it off. I love it already, and will block it some time this upcoming week. I also got my character in ffxiv to lvl 70, the new lvl cap, and did the main quest dungeon. I still need to do the accompanying primal trial, but that will wait for another day. I need to study up on it first.

I think I need bigger litter boxes. Bedelia sits on the edge and sometimes the aim is accordingly off. Maybe I should try one of those covered boxes, to make her actually go inside it...

I will agree to believe that you are also in your forties (or greater!) if you will agree to come have some fun. How do you think we all got to be OLD and also ERUDITE AS FUCK? By running our fool mouths for years at a time.

Heh, this sounds fun, and while I may not actually do it (since I have no particular relationship to the shitposting concept), it's certainly worth promoting. :)

I am definitely going to use this to share posts! I was unsure if it would work on mobile, but it does. :)))

Whoops, that was a few days with no posting. I've just been really tired, and ffxiv took over my entire weekend. I have no idea how to balance my day with ffxiv, because if I do play that, I play it a lot, and I can't fit a lot of other things I normally do. I mean, I don't actually have a schedule for what I do when I'm not at work, but I do have certain things I've done every day, and right now stuff doesn't fit. Sigh. I guess I'll work it out.

Right now I'm reading There Is No Shortage of Blood because it got completed. Longfic is so nice. Also, this morning I randomly saw on Goodreads that a very good original fic I previously read on AO3 is now being published by Tor, so that's awesome! If you like Natasha Pulley you should like this one. Do a search for Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh. I've read other AO3 things by her, and she's great at writing, really good.
northern: JC Chasez sitting in a window, legs hanging out against a red brick wall. (jc in the window)
So much ffxiv (repeat ad nauseam). Completed an area's flight requirements, so I can fly. Tried Heaven-On-High. Did the lvl 63 dungeon and primal.

Yeah, that was mostly my day, but I did end it with knitting four rows with Great Interior Design Challenge season 2 in the background. That was pretty calming!
northern: text: "Did you come to earth for evil purposes?" (evil purposes on earth)
After work I finished Clue 3 of Wild Swan. It looks pretty great. Then I played more ffxiv. I'm level 63 now (70 is the new level cap) and following the long, long story and doing all the side quests. I should probably save some for other jobs, but I can never bring myself to skip quests. Also, I now remember the horror of the in-game card game: Triple Triad. It has the most awful music that you have to listen to again and again, as you play the same npc for many many games until they drop their possible card. There are so many new NPCs that play Triple Triad...

https://youtu.be/LD8uYUZTzrY
There. Play that. Now imagine listening to it thirty or so times in a row, for hundreds of NPCs.

Tired, with a tic by my left eye. I've decided to keep playing ffxiv though, so I opened up my three extra retainers with all he crafting mats on. Monk goes better than Black Mage after all - I just need to find a better way to scroll through enemy targets. I'll have a closer look at settings. Also, I guess I should try and get a hold of crafting macros, since those I used on the PC version are... local to the PC. Ugh.

Well, I'm reading book 6 of Foreigner, and it's really good and exciting! It's the best thing right now.

Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created.

Okay. I guess I'll pick three I really like:

where you can always find me, Hannibal, 13k. See tags on series page.
Mind games, with Will trying hard to push himself into Hannibal the way he feels Hannibal has into him.

Never Let It Starve, Hannibal, 14k.
Season 1 AU, Will finds out. This has a podfic, yay!

The Taste of Life, Harry Potter, 2k.
Harry and Neville practice kissing. It doesn't go great, really.
northern: Gregory House leaning back and tilting his head, against the blinds in his office (aw house)
Day 7

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you.

Today and yesterday I did a little minor beta work on ficlets for NCIS: LA. I have no idea who G and Sam are, but they seem like they could make a nice couple! (I don't think I've ever seen the show. In fact, I've only seen a very few eps of the original NCIS.)

As a rule, if I can read a story without having seen/read the canon, I'm happy with that. As long as it's a good story. And sometimes I'll get inspired to actually having a look at the canon. Come to think of it, that's how I got into *NSYNC a very long time ago, and many fandoms after that. I've never loved canon the most. It's always the stories that spring from it.

Also.

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

The surrounding text in the community post elaborates a bit and it seems like - internet places you visit daily/often. I'll interpret it as that. I don't think my answers will be all that controversial...

Ravelry
I check on the forums I follow, if there are new patterns I might bookmark or upcoming mkals I might fit into my knitting schedule. Ravelry is just very very handy for me.

AO3
I have several tabs of searches open that I reload, trying to find new fics that I might like.

Dreamwidth
Since the beginning of December, I've made a post almost every day and read what the people I follow write. It's nice to come back to a place with so much personal history and find I can still post about my life and read about the lives of others.
northern: Woman, holding her wrist with her other hand. (brown hands)
I've done a few newbie quests in ffxiv, trying to get used to the new controls. I don't really dare log on to my actual, proper, character if I don't know how to use it. I have almost all jobs to lvl 60 on that one, including the crafting ones. But I assume the levelcap is higher by now, heh. Anyway, there are still people on, gil sellers are still shouting in the streets and Limsa Lominsa looks like normal. :)

I tried picking up an insured package yesterday that I hope is the shawl that got lost in the mail many weeks ago, but it wasn't there. Not this afternoon either, but they said maybe after 5, so I guess I'll try again soon. I'm glad I live close by? ETA: it was the shawl, phew! Not lost!

Also, I am knitting on the Wild Swan mkal, and the clues will be really brutal if I want to keep up. I suspect I won't be able to (four clues, every third day or so, for a beaded shawl). I am doing almost all of the suggested beading, and it looks great so far!

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

I love the Raksura books (by Martha Wells), a lot. They have that feeling that I've been talking about in comments lately, the "I want to live in this feeling" thing. I'm just going to copy my review from Goodreads (tiny spoilers from the beginning of book 1), here )

Day 2

Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

Consensual slavery:
Baseball RPF by telesilla: I've Traveled All this Way for Something, Tim Lincecum/Buster Posey

Buster has had a few contracts and considers himself an experienced slave who knows how to do his job. This very long fic follows Buster through a new contract and a difficult period of his life, as he finds that he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.
I have no knowledge of these Baseball people, but I like Buster's journey!

BDSM, pining:
Les Miserables by myrmidryad: Eyes to Serve, Hands to Learn, Enjolras/Grantaire

Grantaire pines after Enjolras, but has no real hopes that anything will ever come of it, but one night, when Grantaire has to go to a different club than usual, he meets Enjolras there.
Grantaire aches in the text with how much he needs for Enjolras to have absolutely no idea how much in love Grantaire is. I love this setup, so much emotion and levels of intimacy!

Pining:
RPF Hockey by thehoyden and twentysomething: and never been kissed, Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin

Sidney and Geno write to each other as teens. So sweet, so emotional.
