Hackathon Code of Conduct TL;DR

Be respectful. Harassment and abuse are never tolerated. If you experience or witness any behavior that makes you uncomfortable, if the event environment feels unsafe or inappropriate, or if an interaction with an organizer, mentor, or another participant is concerning, please report it using the procedures outlined in this document.

Inclusivity & Safety

This hackathon is committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and safe environment for all participants. Everyone has the right to hack, collaborate, and learn without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Harassment Policy

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, social class, or economic status.
  • Sharing sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, doxxing, brigading, or following someone persistently.
  • Harassing photography or recording.
  • Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or other hackathon events.
  • Inappropriate physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention.

If your actions make someone uncomfortable, it qualifies as harassment, and you must stop immediately.

Expectations for All Participants

All attendees, including participants, sponsors, judges, mentors, volunteers, and organizers, must adhere to this code of conduct.

  • Hacks, presentations, and interactions should remain appropriate for a professional and diverse audience.
  • Sexualized images, activities, or content are not allowed in projects or any part of the event.
  • Booth staff and volunteers should not wear sexually suggestive clothing, nor create an inappropriate environment.
Consequences of Violations

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, event organizers may take appropriate action, including but not limited to:

  • A verbal or written warning.
  • Expulsion from the hackathon without eligibility for reimbursement or refund.
  • Involvement of security or law enforcement if necessary.
Reporting an Issue

If you experience or witness harassment, or have other concerns, please report it using the designated reporting channels. Event organizers can provide assistance, including contacting security or law enforcement, arranging escorts, or offering other support to ensure safety.

Scope

This code of conduct applies at all hackathon venues, online platforms, related social events, and any hackathon-provided transportation. We appreciate your commitment to making this hackathon an inclusive and respectful space for all.
