A mandatory race briefing for all participants will be held on Thursday, October 30, at the Kasthoori Maalam conference facility inside the Kaani Palm Beach Hotel.
Race Structure and Categories
The championship will be held over two days, with individual races on the first day and team relays on the second.
Day 1: Individual Races (October 31)
- Elite Category (Men/Women): 1 km open-water swim followed by a 5 km run. This is where the most competitive athletes show off their skills.
- Sprint Category (Boys/Girls): 500 m swim followed by a 2.5 km run. Designed for junior athletes aged 15 and under, with podium spots up for grabs.
- Discover Aquathlon (Kids & Beginners): 200 m swim or sea walk followed by a 500 m run. Perfect for first-timers and younger participants, this one’s all about enjoying the experience.
Day 2: Team Relays (November 1)
The second day is all about teamwork and fun. Teams of two, with one swimmer and one runner where they will compete in both Elite and Sprint distances. There’s also a Discover Aquathlon relay, giving families a chance to race together and soak in the beachside atmosphere.
All swim starts and transitions (T1) happen on the beach. Athletes store their running gear in assigned boxes beforehand, then switch into it after finishing the swim before taking off for the run. It’s smooth, organized, and ensures every racer gets the full experience from water to sand.
Registration and Accommodation
Registration: The championship is open for registration until October 15, 2025 via the Swim Maldives official event page.
Accommodation: As the official hospitality partner, Kaani Hotels is offering:

In the competitive world of swimming, the right equipment can make all the difference. THEMAGIC5, a pioneering company in the swimming gear industry, is leading the charge with their innovative custom-fit goggles. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Rasmus Barfred, co-founder of THEMAGIC5, to delve into the inspiration behind the company, their cutting-edge technology, and the journey from inception to becoming a global name in swim gear.
- Origins and Vision: What was the inspiration behind founding THEMAGIC5? What is the long-term vision for the company in the swimming goggles market?
“We wanted to create swimming goggles that eliminated the distractions preventing anyone from being at one with the water,” says co-founder Rasmus Barfred. With his partners, former professional swimmer Niklas Hedegaard and triathlete Bo Haaber, THEMAGIC5 became the first in the world to offer custom-fit swim swimming goggles.
THEMAGIC5 proprietary fitting technology has brought custom goggles to over 200,000 swimmers around the globe. But Barfed explains their technology has further application.
“At the heart of it, we are a technology company. We are expanding our product base to introduce additional customized consumer products to offer the same solutions and THEMAGIC5 experience to other industries including virtual reality wearables and cycling products.”
- Innovation and Technology: What makes THEMAGIC5 swimming goggles unique compared to other brands?
Standard “one-size-fits-all” goggles often leak and are uncomfortable. To create a seal, swimmers are commonly forced to wear standard goggles so tight they not only experience discomfort while swimming but are left with pressure marks on their face. THEMAGIC5 goggles are different. Since they are customized to fit your face perfectly, they don’t need to be worn extremely tight to create a seal so you can swim in comfort without leaks or pressure marks— guaranteed.
- Customization Process: How does the customization process for THEMAGIC5 goggles work? What advantages does this personalized approach offer to swimmers compared to standard goggles?
“We know that it’s the small things, like a drop of water in your goggles, that can make swimming a good or bad experience or be the difference between winning and losing. By providing an experience free from distractions, all there is to focus on is yourself and the water. Swimming as it should be,” Barfred says.
Each pair of THEMAGIC5 uses the “Optimal Fitting Technology” to find the best fit for each person. After ordering a pair of goggles online, customers are then directed to the app where they are guided through the easy face scanning process. The measurements from the scan create a map of the face that is used to 3D print each gasket. Then, an optimal size nose piece is selected to connect the gaskets which is the final part of ensuring a perfect fit. The process only takes a few weeks from the manufacturing process to delivery.
Customized products are usually out of reach for most consumers but THEMAGIC5 technology makes it possible for everyone to have custom-fit, comfortable, high-performing goggles.
- Commitment to Quality and Performance: How does the company ensure that the goggles meet swimmers’ performance expectations?
THEMAGIC5 guarantee a perfect fit but, If for some reason you aren’t happy with the fit of your goggles, THEMAGIC5 will ask for your feedback and will make you a new pair to solve any issues. If you don’t want to go through the feedback process, you can also simply return the product and get your money back.
- Collaborations and Partnerships: What role do collaborations with sports organizations, elite athletes, or other key stakeholders play in the development and promotion of THEMAGIC5 goggles?
THEMAGIC5 goggles are worn by swimmers and triathletes of all levels across the world including Olympic medallists, world champions, and even nonagenarian masters record holders. Polish freestyle sprinter Kasia Wasick and American open water swimmer Ivan Puskovitch will be wearing THEMAGIC5 at the Paris Olympics.
Multiple world champion and Olympic gold medalist triathlete Jan Frodeno is a proud supporter of THEMAGIC5. “I was intrigued by the concept and have been amazed by how the product lives up to its promises,” he says. “A lot of other brands claim a perfect or premium fit, but they’re all one-size-fits-all. These goggles are different. They are custom-made, and that means they actually fit you.” He loved the goggles so much, he invested in the company.
- User Feedback: What has been the response from users and athletes to THEMAGIC5 goggles? What lessons have been learned from customer feedback, and how has that feedback been used to improve products?
“Product feedback from swimmers and especially pro athletes has been very, very good. It is very clear that a lot of our customers would like a prescription option—we’re looking into the feasibility of this,” Barfred says. “But because our product is customized it is a little more complicated logistically than if we just sold a standard goggle. It won’t be in the product lineup anytime soon but we are working on it.”
- Challenges and Achievements: What have been the biggest challenges the company has faced so far, and how have they been overcome? What are some of the company’s most notable achievements since its founding?
“COVID was by far the biggest challenge for THEMAGIC5,” Barfred shares. “All pools were closed and very few people were swimming. When people don’t swim, they don’t buy goggles. What we did instead was donate some of our inventory to health care workers as an alternative Personal Protective Equipment. We ended up donating hundreds of goggles to healthcare workers across the US—that was a project that gave a lot of purpose and was a good use of time.”
Since THEMAGIC5 started, they have gone from hand cutting goggles in their kitchen to using advanced robots to help swimmers all across the world. Many milestones came along the way, including being featured on the business television show Shark Tank in 2021. The company subsequently received $1,000,000.00 of financial investment from Robert Herjavec and Mark Cuban. In 2022, THEMAGIC5 launched their foray into the VR wearables market and in 2023 the company began collaborating with Canyon Bicycles GmbH to see how their technology can bring THEMAGIC5 experience to cyclists. “Of course, seeing the best swimmers in the world and every day swimmers at local pools wearing the goggles and enjoying the sport of swimming—that is always a win.”

OCEANMAN World Final Championship offers two categories:

World Final Championship: The exclusive category for the fastest swimmers who have qualified throughout the season by finishing in the top 10 of their age group at any OCEANMAN event.
Can I sign up for the Open Event and switch if I qualify later?
Absolutely! If you want to secure your spot in the World Fiinal and be part of this adventure, you can register for the Open Event. If you later qualify by ranking in the top 10 of your age group in any OCEANMAN race, you can easily switch your registration to the World Final Championship.
Which events qualify me for the Final?
Qualifying events include all races on the 2024 OCEANMAN calendar plus OCEANMAN Lima 2023, and the Open Event at OCEANMAN World Final Championship in Phuket 2023. If you rank in the top 10 of your age group in any of these events, you can register for the World Final Championship in the same distance you competed in: OCEANMAN, HALF OCEANMAN, SPRINT, or OCEANKIDS.

From April 26th to 28th, 2024, the inaugural edition of OCEANMAN in Guatapé unfolded with resounding success, marking a milestone in the world of open water swimming. With over 900 participants across various categories this event proved to be a spectacular display of athleticism, camaraderie, and natural beauty.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Guatapé, with the iconic El Peñol rock towering majestically in the background, the event offered participants and spectators alike an unforgettable experience immersed in Colombia’s stunning natural landscapes.
One participant, reflecting on her experience, remarked, “I felt amazing—the water was delicious, the atmosphere electric, and the organization impeccable. Truly a 20 out of 10 event.” Such glowing testimonials are a testament to the meticulous planning and execution that went into making OCEANMAN Guatapé a standout event on the global swimming calendar.

OCEANMAN Guatapé showcased not only the physical prowess of its participants but also the beauty of the Colombian landscape. Guatapé, known for its vibrant colors, charming streets, and picturesque lakeside setting, provided an idyllic backdrop for the event.
Swimmers had the opportunity to navigate the pristine waters of Guatapé Lake, surrounded by lush greenery and the imposing presence of El Peñol, creating an atmosphere of serenity and adventure.
OCEANMAN Guatapé 2024 exceeded expectations, not only as a sporting event but also as a celebration of Colombia’s natural beauty and the indomitable spirit of its people. As participants crossed the finish line and shared stories of triumph and camaraderie, it was evident that OCEANMAN Guatapé had left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to be part of this historic occasion.
We had the privilege to sit down with Artur Arent, a professional open water swimmer with an impressive track record in OCEANMAN competitions. Join us as we dive into his journey, challenges, and aspirations in the world of open water swimming.
Q: Artur, thank you for joining us. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you first got involved with open water swimming?
A: Thank you for your invitation! OK, so my name is, as you probably know, Artur and I’m a professional open water swimmer. I have been swimming for about 13 years now so I know a thing or two about it. I have got involved into open water swimming by my best friend. His name is Filip and he is an ex-Olympian. He also taught me my current swimming technique. Basically, I was swimming my exercises and he asked me if I would like to try something else than pool swimming. And that’s it. In the next week we went on an open water swimming competition and BAM! I really enjoyed it and I also classified as 4th. After that, I started swimming more and more open water and here we are today.
Q: You’ve participated in several OCEANMAN competitions. What draws you to these events, and do you have a favorite memory from any of them?
A: I have had a very good time in OCEANMAN World Finals on Crete. I was swimming 10k there I classified 3rd in Open Category and 2nd in Junior. I remember that the race should have been on the open see but due to weather conditions it was moved mostly into the shipping port. I remember to this day how difficult that race was. The waves were so huge that we were literally climbing them. But after all, it was such an unforgettable and marvelous experience.

Q: How do you prepare yourself physically and mentally for open water swimming competitions like OCEANMAN?
A: I train about 13/14 times a week including 2h morning swim, 2h afternoon swim, gym and running. During my training I swim from 6k to 12k per exercise. I don’t need any mental support, because I have a strong mindset and I talk a lot with my grandfather about my problems.
Q: OCEANMAN takes swimmers to stunning locations around the world. Which destination has been your favorite so far, and why?
A: My favorite location is Lago de Orta in Italy. It is so unique and beautiful, because it is a crystal-clear water lake and it is HUGE. Also, it is surrounded by mountains. As you swim there you will be able to see: beautiful clear sky, marvelous mountain view and the water is so clear that you can drink it during race.
Q: What motivates you to continue pushing your limits as a swimmer, both in training and in competitions?
A: My own will, to became faster, stronger and better. That’s basically it.

Q: How do you think events like OCEANMAN contribute to the global swimming community and inspire others to take up the sport?
A: In my opinion, OCEANMAN is the best open water swimming event. The atmosphere is always very nice, it unites swimmers of all ages and it helps people to achieve their goals. Other competitions don’t provide that.
Q: OCEANMAN fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants. Can you share a memorable interaction you’ve had with fellow swimmers during an event?
A: During my journey with OCEANMAN I have met a lot of great people. I remember when I was getting ready for my start in OCEANTEAMS in Thailand World Finals, I made a bet with the speaker that if my team, which was named “Baby Shark” by the way, is on the podium, than he has to sing the baby shark song. During the race we were far behind, but with my team’s hard work we have come to the finish line as the 3rd mix team and he actually sung that song and it was pretty funny.
Q: What are your swimming goals for the future, and do you have any upcoming challenges or competitions you’re preparing for?
A: Now I’m trying to come back to shape after a break. I believe I will get stronger. I’m planning to participate in OCEANMAN CATTOLICA this year and I also want compete in this year world finals. In the upcoming year I want to swim the English Canal and maybe some other crazy stuff like that but we shall see.
Q: Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring open water swimmers who are looking to follow in your footsteps?
A: Never give up on your dreams. If you are struggling with swimming than don’t worry. It happens, but no matter what never stop training and never give up, because hope dies last.
