Attached the result with 2px,1px,0px border. I personally don’t like with no borders.
As you can see the roundabout fix tentative is working not very good, as you told street color is the same for all roads

oh otherwise did you try how you like it without any borders like the Garmin amps. Is that less pixelated?

The problem is that I have to enlarge very consistently – otherwise bridges and tunnels will not be displayed correctly, and routes and other things may be too far away from the road or be covered. So If I add 2pixels to all roads I will need to make all bridges/tunnels also 2 pixels wider – and change the distance for the routes and so on. As they change depending on zoom level and there is not enough types to use – I have to reuse tunnels/bridges/routes depending on the zoom level for other objects. I can only make every road/object wider by about the same amount ohterwise it gets problematic.
The roundabout 0xc00 is invisble because on all other devices it works to be invisbile and instead the normal road is shown. It’s needed for routing otherwise it cannot say take the second exit on roundabout. If garmin doesn’t change this back to old behaviour I will have to add some sort of color to it – but it’s then the same for any kind of roundabout at zoom level 0. It’s much nicer if it follows in the color of the biggest road passing through the roundabout.
Garmins new own maps work very different and have much more possibilites for layout.

Below values i suggest for line/border width for the main roads:

Motorway: 14-2
trunk: 13-2
primary: 12-2
secondary: 11-2
tertiary: 10-2
residential: 8-2
service: 7-2
unclassified: 8-0

I prefer 2 pixel border as the result is less pixelated.
This has been tested in Garmin Edge 850

The problem with the roundabouts seems related to 00C00 element in the typ (Roundabout). I didn’t understood the purpose of this element as the bmp is transparent, trying deleting it I can see the roundabouts but the color is not always correct.
In general I think that OMTB map will need a complete restyle with these new devices as they had a big improvement in particular on the display.

Thanks, I usually use Europe partial map because I ride quite often on the borders with France and Italy borders are often a limit.
For this test I’ll download the Italy gmapsupp for a while as I think is also faster to load/update on device.
Anyway today I rode with the changes I applyed in my custom typ file (+2px for every road, +1px for borders) and the result is almost fine for secondary,tertiary and residential roads. +1px more for road I think will be also fine as these new devices has an incredibly high definition display respect previous versions. But for sure need to test deeply every element.
I will give you feedback on official layout as soon as I test them.

By tomorrow a 2pixel wider in general road layout will be online for Italy map (I think you are using Italian maps). Would be nice if you can give your input on them. The VeloMap you could use for comparison. If it’s still not wide enough I may add another pixel? But I think it really has to be wide enough. Most roads are about 50% wider than the old wide layout. If you use the gmapsupp.img or mac osx maps – the new map will be online today by 18:00 CET.

you should take tomorrow maps typfile for continuing to work on it – because I moved back from bitmap to line/border roads which means not so fuzzy.
So you moved to border of roads being 2pixels, and adding 2 pixels to the centre width? I will make it a bit thicker in the next week then.
