If you've ever shopped for a camper van or RV, it's likely you've been met with sticker shock. With rising material costsprices have risen for everything from basic cars or trucks to motorhomes. However, today we want to focus on custom Mercedes-Benz Sprinter camper vans like those offered by Outside Van.

While recreational vehicles have never been "cheap" necessarily, the build quality for the price has changed over the years for better or worse. With a constantly changing landscape, though, Outside Van partners have continued to make financing more flexible for the aspiring custom van owner. This means it's never been easier to get a high-quality adventure van that's reliable, with a premium interior, home-like amenities, and modern technology.

Why Financing an Outside Van is Different Than Buying a Typical Car or Truck

When you go to buy a new car or truck, especially if you’re financing, you’re typically looking at a 5-7year term with varying interest rates depending on your credit. With RVs and camper vans, the cost is typically much higher so therefore, the terms of the loan are generally longer. In general, the terms are more flexible and mostly depend on what you can afford monthly.

For instance, 10-15-year loan terms are not uncommon, but van buyers know this is a long-term investment, especially if they’re planning to live in it full-time. We spoke with Clayton Andrews, sales associate at Outside Van, to better understand who buys our vans and how they should approach financing their next home on wheels:

They’re looking for quality and understand it. They’re willing to go to a higher price point to get quality and get a vehicle that they can have for years,” he noted. Outside Van partners and lenders want to help our customers dreams come true, whether it’s seeing the national parks or just having more flexibility for work.

Common Financing Options for Adventure Van Buyers

When financing an Outside Van, both the van and the build-out are bundled into the loan terms along with add-ons and an extended warranty. Partner lenders are familiar with the Outside Van brand and the value the conversion brings, resulting in a standardized process that makes it easy for future van owners.

Of course, buyers can bring their own financing from their credit union or bank, pay cash, or trade in a used van or RV towards their purchase. However, financing greatly reduces the barrier to entry for these $100k-$200k+ price-point builds. In general, lenders at the dealer ask for 10-20% down with rates around 7.75%.

How Buyers Decide between Cash vs. Financing

Let’s say you decided to sell everything and adopt the “van life”, so you’re sitting on some cash. You may be asking yourself whether it’s still better to pay cash or finance your van and pocket the cash for later. The short answer is that it all depends on how long you plan to own the van.

If you’re planning to own the van for 3-5 years, you may consider paying in cash or a large down payment for flexibility when selling down the road. However, if you’re planning on the long haul (7-15 years+), financing may be more attractive as a long-term asset. You might also consider what the van is replacing for you.

Compare your rent/mortgage costs, travel costs, whether you need office space, or if the nature of your job is remote or travel-based. Cash is generally the cheapest option since you’re avoiding interest, but it’s only ideal if you have the money lying around. However, as always, you should be doing your due diligence as a consumer and comparison shop your financing options.

If you’re looking to finance an Outside Van for business use, it’s important to chat with an authorized dealer and discuss your state-specific rules and regulations. You’ll also want to consider whether you’re planning to write the purchase off on your taxes or not.

What Lenders Look for (and How to Prepare)

One of the biggest mistakes first-time van buyers make when considering financing is not getting clear about what monthly payment they can afford and not knowing where their credit stands before visiting the dealer Andrews advised a word of caution regarding this topic:

"They need to evaluate their credit before coming without actually pulling their credit. That will ding you." There are many free credit score sites out there that give you a general picture of where you stand without flagging an inquiry. Inquiries are pulled when you try to apply for a loan, which can negatively affect your ability to get financing at the dealership.

Next Steps for Buyers Considering an Outside Van

In our sitdown with Clayton, we asked him what advice he would give to someone in the early research stages of buying a camper van. His advice is simple: Go rent one.

“Go rent a van and give it a try for what you’re looking for. Outside Van does offer a 170 and a 144, so try in both sizes. We’re one of the few who offer multiple models on the 170 and 144,” he explained. Even if it’s not one of our specific vehicles from Outside Van, he encourages potential buyers to test the water before making their large purchase. There can be an adjustment period to living in smaller space with fewer amenities, and the care and maintenance that comes with living in a camper van.

How Outside Van Parks Makes the Perfect Base for Travel Nurses https://outsidevan.com/outside-van-parks-for-travel-nurses/ https://outsidevan.com/outside-van-parks-for-travel-nurses/#respond Fri, 02 Jan 2026 22:33:08 +0000 https://outsidevan.com/?p=16896
Outside Van Parks Exterior Slider - Mobile solution for travel nurses

Travel nursing offers the best of both worlds: decent pay, flexibility and the opportunity to live somewhere new every few months. However, it doesn't come without its challenges from seeking short-term housing to long hours and last-minute assignments. With the rising cost of housing, especially short-term leasing, many nurses are starting to rethink the idea of traditional housing for their nomadic lifestyle.

This is why it may pay to consider an adventure van, like the ones offered by Outside Van, as a long-term solution to housing on the road. With premium features and many of the home-like amenities, a camper van makes sense for adaptable, resourceful travel nurses seeking alternative yet flexible housing.

Why Traditional Housing Stops Making Sense

With a 63,000+ nursing shortage recorded in 2024, many hospitals around the U.S. are turning to outsourcing temporary nursing contracts to fill the gaps. Going into 2026, this number has only increased with an aging workforce in nursing, increased demand, nursing program bottlenecks, and workplace burnout.  As a result, the career path has grown with the average travel nurse making $103k+ yearly. With the surge in need, comes a substantial amount of travel nurses seeking temporary housing solutions from state to state.

Travel nurses meet challenges with housing between jobs since many contracts are only 13-weeks long. This leaves them no choice but to go with temporary housing and short-term, month-to-month leases that are often substantially more expensive than a 12-month lease. Some staffing agencies will offer housing as part of the contract, but the nurses have very little control over the location or quality of the housing. While the salary is competitive in this line of work, the stress over housing comes with the job.

Why Some Travel Nurses are Turning to Van Life

Given the challenges that come with seeking traditional housing, it's no wonder that more traveling nurses are considering camper vans for their living needs. While it has become a trend over the years, camper vans offer flexibility specifically for traveling nurses by taking the guesswork out of housing with the ease of navigating through towns compared to an RV or pull-behind camper. In comparison to higher short-term rents, traveling nurses can potentially take advantage of monthly savings while enjoying the flexibility and independence of a camper van. Plus, when it's time to hang it up for the day, a camper van allows for easy access for recreation and leisure time off the clock.

As with most things like this, there are some caveats. Full-time van living isn't for everybody with space constraints, van maintenance, and tracking down where it's legal to park your home on wheels. However, Outside Van has some solutions that many travel nurses will find are just right for their constantly changing needs.

What Travel Nurses Need from a Van

Obviously, full-time living in a camper van is much different than renting an apartment, especially in terms of size, but that doesn't mean it lacks all of the same amenities. For instance, many of the vans built by Outside Van come standard with solar-powered climate control and power, along with Starlink internet capability. Travel nurses need reliability and comfort after a shift at the hospital, and somewhere to prepare meals or reheat takeout when it's been a long day.

Most of all, they need somewhere to lay their heads that lets them feel recharged for another day and worry less about scouring the internet for their next work location.

Why a Washroom Changes Everything

Many camper van owners utilize gym memberships on their travels to take care of their bathing needs on the road, but with Parks onboard washroomthat’s no longer needed. The full-sized washroom features a high-top shower with extended height ceiling, storage tray, privacy curtain and an adjustable shower head. The vanity includes a sink with a medicine cabinet, mirror and dedicated vanity light that makes getting ready or washing the day away convenient.

Comfortable Living Between Shifts

The interior of Parks supports real rest, not just the bare minimum while traveling. The FlipOut convertible bed system and seating area, along with add-on features like insulated privacy window shades, allows for a full reset that travel nurses often need. Whether they’ve been working all day or through the night, Parks has features that caters to even the graveyard shift. WiFi connectivity and Lagun dinette table makes connecting with loved ones at home seamless and comfortable.

A Housing Solution Catered to the Traveling Nurse Lifestyle

While weighing options on whether a camper van is right for you or the traveling nurse in your life, it’s important to consider whether van-life in general is right for you. Full-time living in a van, like Parks, requires some adapting to a smaller space, being resourceful and flowing through the day in a non-traditional way. Keeping a regular maintenance schedule, seeking parking facilities, as well as finding dumping areas for grey tanks and waste containers, are all a part of the van lifestyle.

Couple walking to the trailhead next to a Parks model from Outside Van

However,  Parks offers flexibility and independence that arranged and temporary housing solutions may not. It also offers the ability to quickly change locations on a moment’s notice while bringing home with you and allowing for more meaningful days off on the trail, beach or wherever you end up on your days off.

Outside Van Parks for the Travel Nurse

For the traveling nurse, life is always on the move. The Outside Van Parks model offers a fully equipped mobile housing solution that includes connectivity, comfort, and convenience. If you have a career built around moving frequently, consider Parks as your solution to independent living for a nomadic work environment.

Introducing The Performance Elite Series Suspension for your Sprinter https://outsidevan.com/introducing-the-performance-elite-series-suspension-for-your-sprinter/ https://outsidevan.com/introducing-the-performance-elite-series-suspension-for-your-sprinter/#respond Thu, 12 Jun 2025 14:27:54 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=969

Outside Van and FOX Factory are proud to announce the Performance Elite Series Suspension System, engineered specifically for all-wheel and four-wheel-drive, 2500 and 3500 Sprinter vans.

The FOX 2.5 Performance Elite Suspension System is designed to dramatically enhance your Sprinter’s handling, stability, and ride comfort—on and off the road. With external reservoirs, DSC EVO dual-speed compression adjusters, and application-specific tuning, this system offers increased damping performance, reduced fade, and greater control for 2015+ Sprinter vans under any load.

Key Components:

  • Front FOX 2.5 Coil-Over Struts
These feature external reservoirs for improved heat dissipation and consistent performance, delivering significantly enhanced control and ride stability.
  • Rear FOX 2.5 Shocks
Also equipped with external reservoirs, these shocks improve ride quality and handling across varying terrains.

Both front struts and rear shocks include high- and low-speed compression tuning dials, allowing independent adjustment on all four corners. Whether your van is rear-heavy or side-biased, the Performance Elite system gives you the flexibility to fine-tune damping to match your specific build and weight distribution. For example, if your rear driver’s side carries extra weight, simply adjust the shock on that corner for a more balanced and comfortable ride.

To celebrate the release of the Performance Elite Suspension System, we’ve created four special edition vans—each showcasing the system in action.

Performance Elite Syncline

Built for true adventurers, Syncline is a go-anywhere van ready to take you places you’ve only dreamed of. This special edition Syncline features all the features and materials used in Syncline, with a special edition wrap and the Performance Elite Series Suspension System.

This special edition Approach features all the features and materials used in Approach, with a special edition wrap and the Performance Elite Series Suspension System.

Performance Elite Overnight

Compact yet versatile, Overnight features a pop-top sleeping area and expanded passenger capacity, all built on the nimble 144″ chassis. • Fully modular and swappable— the panels can be used on either Passenger or Driver Pack Racks enabling customized cargo layouts and a future-proof design.
  • Available in driver or passenger side versions.
    • Driver side includes Cargo Panels + Tire Carrier Mount.

Introducing the Track Rack for Skis and Snowboards https://outsidevan.com/introducing-the-track-rack-for-skis-and-snowboards/ https://outsidevan.com/introducing-the-track-rack-for-skis-and-snowboards/#respond Sat, 01 Mar 2025 10:58:14 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1035

The Track Rack for Skis and Snowboards  is a specialized storage solution for your Skis, Ski Poles, and Snowboards for your adventure van. Designed to be used with L-Track, the Track Rack is the perfect solution to securing your Ski Gear inside your van.

This durable rack is made of powder coated Stainless Steel and HDPE. It is ideal for securing a pair of skis and poles, or a single snowboard. The specialized rubber straps keep your equipment secure, making this a great solution for people driving off-road.

The Track Rack is compatible out of the box with our Foldaway Murphy Bed found in Syncline and Overnight and can be used with the bed in the up or down position. The Track Rack utilizes two points of contact to L-Track for optimal security; thus you will need to have two properly spaced points of contact for the rack to work. If you have  a single horizontal run of L-Track, we recommend adding an L-Track button or an additional run of L-Track to properly secure the rack and gear.

The Track Racks are made to order, shipping times may vary.

Here’s what comes in the box:

(4) L-Track bolts with twist knobs

Overnight: Next-Gen Systems Control https://outsidevan.com/overnight-next-gen-systems-control/ https://outsidevan.com/overnight-next-gen-systems-control/#respond Tue, 21 Jan 2025 13:10:40 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1045

When building an Adventure Van, creating a straightforward systems control can be a daunting task. Managing all the systems involved in an Adventure Van usually means a cornucopia of dials, knobs, buttons, and readouts that are strewn throughout the van. This is where a modern smart control system like the one we have installed in Overnight shines.

Working with Garmin, we implemented a comprehensive smart control system that manages every aspect of Overnight. Using hardware modules that are directly connected to the critical systems in the van, the Garmin control center seamlessly monitors and adjusts anything connected to it. This includes the interior and exterior lights, awning, heating, air conditioning, vent fans, and water.

Located in a centralized location above the galley, the Garmin SERV Control Center touchscreen is your hub in controlling all aspects of the van. There are multiple screens with specialized monitoring and control schemes neatly laid out. Want to check in on how much power you have stored in your batteries? Simply tap the lightning bolt icon and you will be led to an in-depth screen detailing all aspects of your power system. Want total light control at the tip of your finger? Tap the lightbulb icon to control and dim all lighting, including the awning lights.

We debuted this system in Parks, and Overnight offers up the latest iteration of this control center which now includes a secondary 8″ tablet touchscreen which attaches via Garmin magnet docks to the headliner and to a docking location in the pop top. The Garmin Vieo uses a wifi signal to connect to the control center, and can be detached and taken anywhere around the campsite to control the van. In addition, the system is also able to be used via a connected mobile app, allowing for control wherever there is an internet connection. The Vieo is fully featured, and in addition to controlling the systems of the van, the tablet also features an inclinometer to help you level the van, can control music played through the Alpine stereo system, and track and plan your camping and road trips through Garmin Drive.

Overnight is currently being rolled out nationwide through our network of select dealers. To stay up-to-date on the latest overnight news, including feature highlights and availability, please sign up for our newsletter. See you on the outside!

Overnight: Pop-Top Sleeping Designed for The Ultimate Adventure Van https://outsidevan.com/overnight-pop-top-sleeping-designed-for-the-ultimate-adventure-van/ https://outsidevan.com/overnight-pop-top-sleeping-designed-for-the-ultimate-adventure-van/#respond Fri, 17 Jan 2025 11:46:20 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1055

Van life is an extremely rewarding way to experience life in the outdoors, but do you know what makes it better? When you can share those experiences with your family or close group of friends. For every van builder out there, there is a delicate balancing act of space and function that must be considered when building a layout, and too often than not, accommodating multiple passengers is an afterthought.

With our van Approach, we brought group adventuring into reality with a layout that is focused on creating a comfortable and functional experience for the whole crew on a 170″ wheelbase chassis van. With Overnight, we set out to accomplish this same goal, but on the smaller, nimbler 144″ wheelbase chassis that is common with performance-focused Adventure Vans.

With the limited space that the 144 offers, we decided to go up and utilize a pop-top sleeping area to add that crucial extra amount of real estate. Featuring modular gear mounts, ventilation, and robust weatherproofing, the sleeping area on top of Overnight is a cozy 4-season loft than can easily be deployed at a moment’s notice.

Incorporating a Pop-Top onto an Adventure Van is no small task. Typically, the roof area is used for components such as vent fans, awnings, solar panels, and light bars, but adding a Pop-Top directly impedes where and what you can add to the roof.

This is how we decided to partner with Super Pacific to develop a Pop-Top ideal for an Outside Van.  Working with Super Pacific, our design and engineering teams worked together to modify and integrate a wedge-style Pop-Top on to Overnight that compliments the natural flow of movement throughout the van and still enables a functional roof space.

This included repositioning the opening into the Pop-Top to allow for our forward combo roof rack and for the integration of a roof mounted vent fan. Typically, with Pop-Tops, the vent fan is integrated directly into the roof of the Pop-Top, which usually means that in order to use the fan, the Pop-Top must be deployed. By setting the structure and positioning the entrance further back, we were able to mount the fan directly to the roof, preserving its traditional positioning and functionality when the Pop-Top is closed.

The Pop-Top Tent is integrated seamlessly into the van, with trims and finishes that stylistically match the rest of the van.  Lighting, USB charging ports, a 12v port and a dock for the Garmin Empirbus multiplexing system were added to the Pop-Top as well for maximum useability.  Finally, a specialized collapsing ladder mounting system had to be designed and fit into the van layout in order to access the Pop-Top.

Overnight will be available nationwide through our network of select dealerships soon.

Build out your Baseline https://outsidevan.com/build-out-your-baseline/ https://outsidevan.com/build-out-your-baseline/#respond Thu, 09 Jan 2025 10:48:50 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1067

Building your own adventure van from the ground up is a rewarding experience. This is exactly how Outside Van started, in a driveway with an empty chassis, a set of tools, and a dream. It has taken years to perfect our process to get to the level of build quality and reliability that you expect from Outside Van.

This is why we have introduced Baseline. It’s all ready to go for your upgrades! The conversion does not include power, heating, or water systems allowing you to source and install your own components as you see fit.

Check out our components that are ready to be installed on your Baseline.

The Top Shelf Headliner

The Top Shelf Headliner / Overhead Cab Shelf, designed for the Sprinter, takes the wasted space above your head and turns it into a lofted storage space to keep items like sun-shades, soft goods, bags and other equipment needed on your next adventure.

This is an easy to install, no drill storage solution for any high roof 2019+ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The Top Shelf adds essential storage space to your van. Built using 1/8th inch Fine Texture Black Powder coated Aluminum, the Top Shelf is durable and strong and ready for your gear.

Thoughtfully designed and engineered, the Top Shelf utilizes precision-cut L-Track and ¼ inch Slots on the front face of the shelf, allowing for a wide variety of accessories to be attached or secured. The shelf itself is contoured the shape of the Sprinter chassis, ensuring maximum use of space.

Switchback Cabinet

The Switchback Cabinet is engineered and manufactured to provide additional storage space anywhere there’s L-Track! Featuring a lightweight powder coated aluminum frame, it easily to install and remove with multiple L-Track* compatible mounting points. It’s design includes single zipper door, detachable support strap for large/bulky items, and it’s easily collapsible, allowing it to tuck out of the way when not in use. The switchback is the perfect addition to any adventure van.

Wing Step Rear Bumper

Designed and engineered by Outside Van, the Wing Step Rear Bumper is a specialized type of rear bumper that incorporates a grip tape step with an integrated wing shape that allows the use of hitch mounted bike racks and accessories without an extension. The design will not interfere with the use of the backup sensors, and its no-drill install is fast and seamless allowing you to spend more time adventuring.

OSV Wheel

Outside Van’s new Wheel boasts a sleek and stylish design, measuring 17×8 inches. It includes a dual valve stems for easy air up and air down. Its 6-130 bolt pattern ensures a secure fit, providing stability and confidence during van journeys, on and off-road. Crafted using advanced Flow-Forged technology, this wheel achieves an exceptional balance between strength and lightweight construction, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and performance. And, the removable rock ring allows you to easily replace any damage or scuffing down the road. Replacement rock ring sold separately.

Dual 6″ Light & Bracket Kit

Need to light up the street and the trail? Outside Van has newly engineered a front bumper light bracket kit that easily integrates with two street legal SAE 6″ Rigid LED lights that mount on the NEW 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van chassis. The LED lights come in two different colors depending on preference.

Outside Van Adventure Vans Vs Storyteller Overland Mode and Winnebago Revel: How Do They Stack Up? https://outsidevan.com/osv-adventure-vans-vs-storyteller-and-winnebago/ https://outsidevan.com/osv-adventure-vans-vs-storyteller-and-winnebago/#respond Tue, 10 Dec 2024 18:38:09 +0000 https://outsidevan.com/?p=16811

Adventure vans have experienced a surge in popularity, driven by social media and a growing desire for freedom following the pandemic. From millennials to retirees, more people are trading hotels for open horizons on the highway. With numerous options now available on the market, selecting the right van can be overwhelming. In this comparison, we break down three leading adventure-van builders: Outside Van, Storyteller Overland, and Winnebago.

The Modern Adventure Van Landscape

To help those seeking an adventure-ready, off-road-capable van, it’s important to establish clear comparison criteria. In this review, we will evaluate key aspects, including performance, design, lifestyle fit, off-road/off-grid readiness, serviceability, features, and comfort, using three specific brands: Outside Van, Storyteller Overland, and Winnebago.

Outside Van delivers luxurious, factory-built vans that are purpose-built and ready for gear and family travel. Winnebago offers mainstream, capable adventure vans, trusted in the RV world. Storyteller Overland focuses on fully equipped vans designed for excursions in the outback.

While all three brands share the same goal, to be the best on the market, each has its own key strengths and weaknesses. Depending on your use case, one detail or feature might matter more to you or not at all. We’ll take a look at each brand’s flagship vans next.

Custom Engineered vs. Mass Produced

Before we dive in, take a moment to reflect on what matters most about your adventures. Is a homey feel your priority, or do you crave simplicity and flexibility? Will you travel with loved ones, friends, or solo? How far off the grid do you see yourself venturing? Depending on your answers, you'll see one brand may align with your needs more than another.

Regardless of brand, adventure vans often come with a hefty price tag. Depending on trim level and features, you may be looking at anywhere from $89,000 to $300,000+. Whether you want a ready-to-roll turnkey van or a fully personalized off-grid home, each brand offers different paths and configurations for all entry points.

Today, we'll examine premium vans that are comparable in features and capacity, including the Outside Van Syncline & Overnight, Storyteller Overland Mode series, and Winnebago Revel

Model & Brand Overview

While all three adventure van builders—Outside VanStoryteller Overland, and Winnebago—start with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform, each takes a distinctly different path in how they design, engineer, and deliver their vans. The result is three very different ownership experiences; each tuned to a specific kind of adventure.

Here's how they stack up:

Outside Van Syncline & Overnight

Outside Van stands at the top of the custom market, offering built-to-order vans tailored to how an owner actually lives and travels. OSV utilizes a galvanized steel interior infrastructure, along with strong insulation and sound dampening, enhancing the longevity and overall comfort of owning the van.

With over 18 years of building pioneering custom vans, Outside Van has this expertise to its mass-produced Class-B Adventure Vans. If you're looking for a boutique-like experience with craftsmanship bordering on aerospace precision and reliability in the backcountry, then consider Outside Van for your next adventure rig.

Storyteller Overland MODE Series

Offering a variety of trims with varying capability levels (Classic, XO, CL, Beast, and others), Storyteller Overland occupies the middle ground between custom craftsmanship and factory production.  They’ve been marketed as not only a second home, but also a “second car,” highlighting the MODE series as both versatile and capable. In recent years, the model has undergone several updates, including weight reduction and enhancements to the interior design.

In 2025, the MODE lineup features an upgraded M-Power lithium battery system (16.8 kWh dual battery in higher trims) and a new alternator with faster charging capabilities. The MODE is available in two wheelbase options: 144” standard and 170” in the XL and Crew models. However, even the entry model Classic MODE OG starts at $187k+, which may be a high entry point considering the less premium starting features compared to the others on this list.

While buyers can’t customize floor plans or finishes, they get a van that’s reliable and ready to hit the road.

Winnebago Revel & Revel Sport

Winnebago, long a household name in RV travel, brings mass-production scale and nationwide support to the adventure van segment. Its Revel and Revel Sport models take a more accessible approach with simpler layouts, modest power systems, and straightforward functionality that prioritize practicality over luxury. The Revel line isn’t meant to compete with high-end boutique builds; instead, it appeals to buyers seeking a solid, serviceable platform that can go just about anywhere without overcomplicating the experience.

The Revel’s off-road ability is moderate, with some reviewers noting it’s best for easier trails. This limitation may not be a concern if you plan to stick to milder conditions. Some users also comment that the feature-packed interior leaves little space for storage or movement, which can affect everyday comfort.

Interior Layout

Where Outside Van excels compared to the others on this list is in its interior layout, options, insulation, durability, and comfort. Where brands like Storyteller and Winnebago offer more practical, predictable designs, OSV aims to stand out with a modern, minimalist approach that feels more like home and less like an RV.

OSV adventure vans, such as the Syncline and Overnight, feature marine-grade panels, sound-deadening materials, lightweight cabinetry, along with premium lighting, seating, optimized space, and storage solutions. By contrast, Storyteller and Winnebago adhere to proven floor plans that prioritize practicality over design flair and expedited production.

For instance, the Overnight model is a luxury all-wheel drive vehicle that can comfortably accommodate a small family. The FoldAway Murphy Bed with Gear wall allows for easy storage access and expanded space when not in use. For those looking to see the sights at night, there’s even a pop-up sleeping area on the roof of the van.

Off-Grid and Adventure Readiness

Storyteller Overland Mode OG

(Image retrieved from Conejorv.com)

When it comes to true off-grid capability, not all adventure vans are created equal. Storyteller Overland takes a unique route, focusing on production consistency and real-world everyday application.  The MODE lineup, like the Beast MODE OG, comes equipped with a powerful 16.8 kWh M-Power system, a 3,000-watt inverter, and an integrated alternator and solar charging system. Whether you’re powering an induction cooktop or Starlink internet, you’ll be fully supported offgrid.

Innovative interior design offered by Storyteller allows you to transition quickly between driving, working, and sleeping. The main tradeoff is a modest tank capacity and limited customization, which may work great for an occasional weekend warrior.

Winnebago’s Revel and Revel Sport are engineered for accessibility and a balanced approach to van builds. Their 8.4kWh Power MAX system, dual alternators, and solar input deliver solid off-grid performance for short to medium trips. Outpacing many in its class, the Revel now features a 35-gallon freshwater tank, providing greater comfort and convenience for longer off-grid stays.

Overall, Winnebago's Revel and Revel Sport are a balanced option for road and trail use, along with a wide range of dealer support.

When it comes to off-grid and adventure readiness, Outside Van is top tier for serious off-grid living and all-season off-road performance. The flexibility to literally build your van your way means you can specify features, such as larger water tanks, more insulation, upgraded suspension, and more. The lithium-ion power systems utilize dual 210 Amp/Hour batteries, a 3000W inverter/charger, an 80A Alternator charging, and a built-in chassis charger.

The caveat with OSV's higher-tier models is that they often come with a higher cost and potentially more features than you need for light or weekend use. However, if your plan is to take long excursions or live in a van full-time, OSV should be on your list.

Ownership Experience

FOX suspension installed on an Outside Van

The primary difference among these three heavy hitters in the adventure van space lies in access to dealers and service, as well as customizability. Outside Van prides itself on the integrity and care it takes in each van build, utilizing all available resources and premium materials to ensure your investment lasts.  Outside Van is also part of the Fox Factory family of vehicle brands, With FOX's heritage driving the charge, OSV stands behind its off-road performance and build quality.

Storyteller and Winnebago offer a quick turnaround and nationwide service, ideal for buyers who prioritize convenience over customization.

What You Get for the Price

Adventure vans in general span a wide price range, with many starting around $150,000, and fully outfitted builds can cost over $300,000. It boils down to how each brand approaches design, construction, and purpose.

(Image: Outside Van Overnight model)

While Outside Van sits more on the premium end of that spectrum, every build is a one-off creation that combines high-end craftsmanship with performance engineering. OSV builds are an investment that offers peace of mind through reinforced structure, custom layout design, premium materials, and advanced power and water systems. Outside Van creates adventure vans for those who are in it for the long haul, viewing the van as a long-term, remote home, not just a weekend escape.

Winnebago remains the most accessible entry point, with Storyteller Overland as the middle ground between the two. Ultimately, what you pay for in this market comes down to how far you want to go in terms of customization and capability. The best value isn’t always the lowest (or highest) price; it’s the van that best aligns with your lifestyle and how you use it.

Choose Your Adventure Your Way

Whether you're a serious off-grid adventurer or looking for a simple weekend rigthere's an adventure van out there that caters to your needs. You can't go wrong with any of the vans on this list, but depending on how far you want to go in price, customizability, layout, and capability, there are some pros and cons. We hope that we helped you get closer to choosing your next adventure van, and we look forward to seeing you on the road.

KATIE’S CORNER: Winter Van Maintenance https://outsidevan.com/katies-corner-winter-van-maintenance/ https://outsidevan.com/katies-corner-winter-van-maintenance/#respond Mon, 02 Dec 2024 11:35:44 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1084

Katie is Outside Van’s fantastic outside sales rep. She lives in her Approach van full-time while traveling throughout the country!

Keeping Your Home on Wheels Cozy and Safe

It's that time of year again! Depending on whether you live in your van or plan to put it in storage, there are some steps you'll want to take for winter.

If you live in your van, there isn't much maintenance required. Every Outside Van is fully insulated, and all our model vans have a hydronic heating system. Keep your heater turned on and set to an ambient temperature to maintain all the electronics and fresh water. Pour half a cup of RV antifreeze into the sink and shower drain holes to prevent the grey tank and pipes from freezing. Our Cabin Divider Soft Wall is an awesome addition; This fully insulated soft wall not only provides privacy from the front cab of the van, but it can also make a significant difference in keeping the heat contained in the living space. It is super functional with multiple ways to zip up and button for full or partial privacy, as well as containing additional storage apartments for your gear! It is one of my favorite add-ons by far.

If planning to put your van in storage, you'll want to fully drain and winterize your water system. With Outside Van, you can use the on-board air compressor to blow out any residual water from the system after draining. There are full step-by-step instructions included with your model van user manual. It would also be a good idea to charge and power off your house battery system to preserve the lifespan. If possible, I would check on the state of charge percentage every few weeks or so.

Maintain Your Tires and Engine

Winter driving can be tougher on your van, so regular maintenance is important to ensure your safety.

  • Tire Care: Cold temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop, which can lead to poor handling and reduced fuel efficiency. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
  • Check Your Engine Fluids: Ensure that your antifreeze levels are topped up and that your van's engine oil is suitable for cold temperatures. It's also a good idea to regularly check your van's belts and hoses to ensure they're in good condition.
  • Keep Your Gas Tank Full: A full gas tank in the winter can prevent moisture from forming in the tank and freezing the fuel lines. The heating system also sips from your fuel tank, so keeping it above ¼ full will ensure your heater stays fired up.

Final Thoughts on Winter Vanlife

While living in a campervan during the winter can seem more challenging, it also offers unique rewards. There's something magical about waking up in a snow-covered landscape, enjoying the quiet solitude of winter, and knowing that your van is your cozy refuge. With the right preparation and maintenance, your campervan can be your perfect home all year round. With the upgraded tire and off-road packages that Outside Van installs, I never worry when driving through snowy climates. I am always toasty warm in my little home on wheels!

KATIE’S CORNER: Living in Approach Full-time https://outsidevan.com/katies-corner-living-in-approach-full-time/ https://outsidevan.com/katies-corner-living-in-approach-full-time/#respond Mon, 02 Dec 2024 11:13:25 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1088

Katie is Outside Van’s fantastic outside sales rep. She lives in her Approach van full-time while traveling throughout the country!

I’ve been living in Approach full-time for three months now, and my home feels cozier than ever! For those of you that haven’t met me yet, I have been living in a van full-time for close to two years. Vanlife forces you to slow down, focus on the essentials, and really appreciate the little things. That is what first attracted me to it; the ability to get rid of material items that felt like they were only weighing me down, to be left with items that serve a purpose and aren’t just there to take up space. Now every day I can wake up in a new place, whether that be next to a peaceful lake, tucked away in the snowy mountains, or the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel. No matter where I end up, my home is always where I am.

I know what you’re thinking – Approach is intended for a family of 4, so how am I making it work for me? Approach is built in such a way where you can really make it work to fit your needs. For me personally, I do not have a need for the additional 2 captain’s chairs in the back, so I popped them out. They are super easy to remove! Even better, the seat plates are flush mounted with the floor, so all I had to do was throw a rug down to hide that there were ever seats there at all. I also do not have a need for the second bed option, so instead I turned the area underneath the top bed into my storage garage. I have all my storage bins across the bench seat, and then bungeed them to the L-Tracks installed on the floor to keep them secure. There are multiple loops under the bed frame as well for additional bungees, and it’s magnetic so I have some magnetic hooks to hold my gear.

Making a Campervan Feel Like Home

One of the biggest challenges of vanlife is creating a space that feels like home. At first glance, a campervan might seem cramped, but with a little creativity, it's possible to make the space cozy and functional. Here are some ways I've transformed my van into a home on wheels:

  • Maximize Space with Clever Storage: Every nook and cranny counts! I use vertical storage, under-bed bins, and wall-mounted organizers to keep everything neat and accessible. This way, I have everything I need without feeling cluttered. The L-Track that comes preinstalled on the walls are a great way to maximize vertical storage, and even better is our Switchback soft overhead storage cabinet – I have two of these over my bed which houses all my clothes.
  • Add Comfort with Personal Touches: A few throw pillows, a blanket, art, chotchkes (my northeast friends will know this one), and some pictures of loved ones can make the space feel much more inviting. I also keep a small plant or two to bring some life into the van. Get a real plant if you're brave, I opted for fake ones.
  • Lighting and Ambiance: String lights and turning down the dimmable ceiling lights really set the mood in the evenings. I've also added color-changing LED lights for some fun, and candles are always super nice. Of course, just don't forget to exhaust the smoke!

Outsider Summit 2024 | Adventuring Across Moab with the Outsiders https://outsidevan.com/outsider-summit-2024/ https://outsidevan.com/outsider-summit-2024/#respond Mon, 14 Oct 2024 10:54:38 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1193
The first weekend of October marked the much-anticipated kickoff of our annual Outsider Summit, a gathering that celebrates the spirit of adventure and the vibrant community of Outside Van owners. This yearly event isn’t just a meet-up—it’s a weekend packed with stunning vans, passionate explorers, and epic adventures, all in the heart of the great outdoors.

This year, we set up camp on 25 private acres just outside of Moab, Utah. Surrounded by the iconic red sand, towering rocky outcrops, and a picturesque natural arch, the location felt like a scene straight out of a desert dream. This year’s summit was unforgettable, breaking records and bringing together the Outside Van community.

This year’s summit was made possible through an exciting partnership with Warner Vans of Utah and Mike Reed of Voyager Outdoors Ltd. With their deep expertise in Adventure Vans, overlanding, and intimate knowledge of Moab’s expansive trail system, they helped us pull off the best Outsider Summit yet.

With over 20 vans rolling in, attendees were treated to hands-on workshops covering everything from off-road recovery and repair to van maintenance. But the real highlight? Taking their rigs off the beaten path and exploring some of the most breathtaking and remote landscapes North America has to offer. From winding desert trails to awe-inspiring vistas, it was a weekend of discovery, learning, and pure adventure.

Beyond the thrill of exploring Moab by van, our very own Lindsey V. took adventure to the next level by leading mountain biking expeditions on some of the most iconic trails in the world. With Camelbaks filled to the brim and Lindsey leading the charge, the Outsiders faced the desert heat, pushing through 90-degree temperatures to conquer legendary routes like Slick Rock and Dead Horse State Park. And after a hard-earned ride across the rugged terrain, there was no better way to cool off than a refreshing dip in a local swimming hole—a perfect oasis after a day of desert adventure.

Each morning of the summit began with a little bit of magic: the Outside Van crew hand-delivered Breakfast Boxes to every van, filled with all the essentials for crafting a mouthwatering meal right in the comfort of Outsider’s rigs. Whether they fired up the induction cooktop or lit the propane stove, fluffy pancakes, fresh parfaits, or savory omelets to kickstarted the day’s adventures.

But the real treat came when the sun dipped behind the red cliffs. Evenings were a feast for the senses, thanks to on-site catering from Destination Kitchen Moab. Under a canopy of stars, everyone gathered in the common area to indulge in exquisite dinners paired with vibrant conversations. As the night went on, the delicious flavors of Kramer Vineyards wine and Level Brewing craft beer flowed freely, making for unforgettable moments of connection and celebration. Our outsiders are a unique crew of adventurers, each with their own story, and boy do we love to hear the stories from the road!

We’re counting down the days until Outsider Summit 2025, and we hope that you’ll be there to enjoy it with us!

10 Things to Make Van Life Easier https://outsidevan.com/10-things-to-make-van-life-easier/ https://outsidevan.com/10-things-to-make-van-life-easier/#respond Sun, 29 Sep 2024 08:00:56 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/index.php/2025/07/21/how-to-use-instagram-feeds-to-boost-traffic-and-conversions/

Van life offers a unique sense of freedom and adventure, allowing you to travel and explore with the comforts of home at your fingertips. However, like any lifestyle, it comes with its challenges. Here are five features to include in your custom van build and five must-have items to bring along, which can make your van life experience as enjoyable as possible.

5 Features to Include in Your Van Build

  1. Storage Where should you put your clothes, food, pots and pans? In secure cabinets, of course! Overhead cabinetry and drawers with push lock latches are a great way to keep all of your smaller items organized and accessible.
  2. Storage for Gear If you’re an outdoor enthusiast who loves to bring bikes, boards, skis, or any other outdoor gear along, having a secure storage space inside the van is a game-changer. Using l-track with shockle straps and rings keeps your gear secure while on the road and well-organized at your campsite. Keeping it stored inside the van vs outside also prevents potential damage from exposure to harsh weather conditions.
  3. Refrigerator A small refrigerator eliminates the need for ice and coolers, ensuring your snacks, drinks, and fresh food stay cold. This feature adds convenience, especially on shorter trips, and provides peace of mind knowing your perishables are properly stored. I mean, how amazing is it grabbing a cold kombucha after a hike?!
  4. Heater A reliable heater makes van life possible in any season. Whether you’re traveling through chilly mountain ranges or enjoying a winter getaway, a heater ensures warmth and comfort, allowing you to camp year-round.
  5. Upgraded Ride Package Upgraded suspension, wheels, and tires ensures that your build is capable and ready to conquer rough off-road terrain and trails. Every upgrade we do is intended to create an experience that is smooth, comfortable, and stylish.

5 Things to Bring on Your Van Adventure

  1. Folding Table Even if you have a built-in table, or Lagun table inside the van, an extra folding table is perfect for setting up camp outside. Whether for messy meals, game nights, or a workstation with a view, a folding table is incredibly handy.
  2. Camp Chairs Compact and easy to store, camp chairs offer comfort wherever you stop. Whether by the beach, in the woods, or at a campsite, having a cozy seat to relax in after a long day is always appreciated.
  3. Electric Chainsaw For those moments when you need to gather firewood or clear a small path, an electric chainsaw can make the task quick and efficient. It’s a practical tool for off-grid living and exploring.
  4. Portable Propane Fire Pit When fire bans or wet conditions make starting a traditional campfire difficult, a portable propane fire pit allows you to enjoy the warmth and ambiance of a fire safely and conveniently. Plus, it’s easy to pack and set up.
  5. Hammock Bringing a hammock along provides the perfect way to unwind. Hang it up between your van and a tree, and you’ll have a peaceful spot to enjoy the fresh air, read a book, or take a nap.

Whether you’re a weekend traveler or embracing full-time van life, incorporating these features and gear into your journey will help make your experience more comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable.

Parks | The FlipOut Bed System https://outsidevan.com/parks-the-flipout-bed-system/ https://outsidevan.com/parks-the-flipout-bed-system/#respond Wed, 18 Sep 2024 14:28:45 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1226

Designing a layout for a vehicle like Parks is a balancing act. Our design philosophy prioritizes open layouts that create a living space that is just as much comfortable as it is functional. We want our vehicles to adapt to our customers rather than our customers adapt to a cramped and restrictive layout.

Parks features our discreet FlipOut bed panel system which utilizes a multi-purpose panel system embedded into the benches to create an expansive bed that can easily be deployed and stowed. When deployed, the bed creates a sleeping area roughly 74”x70” and is the perfect size for two people. The bed also sits lower than most van beds, which makes accessorily much easier for those who have mobility issues, children, or those who simply want a bed platform closer to the ground.

To deploy the FlipOut bed, remove the cushion from the driver’s side bench. There are three panels attached with hinges to the bench. Grab each panel and flip individually until all three panels are flipped, bridging the walkway. We suggest flipping the panel closest to the Outback Washroom first, and working your way to the front of Parks. When all three panels are flipped, replace and rearrange the bench cushions to create a sleeping area.

(Portland, OR) Outside Van®, the pioneer of premium, adventure-focused van conversions is pleased to announce a third edition to their model lineup, Parks.

Parks is a full-sized, All-Wheel Drive, Class-B Recreational Van with seating and sleeping for up to two adults. It is focused on creating a solid homebase for explorers looking for the ideal vehicle to travel comfortably and experience the outdoors through campgrounds and national parks.

What sets Parks apart from Outside Van’s other flagship models Syncline and Approach, are components and a layout dialed in to fill the gap between the maneuverability and capability of Adventure Vans and the accessibility and connectivity of your traditional full-sized RV.

Focused on comfort, accessibility, and privacy, Parks includes a dedicated interior washroom, dubbed the Outback Washroom. The washroom includes a fully enclosed High Top shower with increased head room for taller individuals, a permanent cassette-based toilet with electric flush and easy access waste disposal, and a vanity and washing station.

Parks includes all the hallmarks of an Outside Van®, including a spacious sleeping area that converts into a comfortable dinette that utilizes an adjustable table for a cozy dining experience and a full-sized galley kitchen complete with refrigerator, cooktop, stainless-steel sink and ample storage.

Parks features a technology and power package that will ensure years of use with all the modern connectivity features in mind. It includes a smart control system powered by Garmin that controls and monitors all systems of the van, a dedicated entertainment center, and a pre-drilled passthrough ready for any roof-based communications devices.

Parks is projected to be available nationwide at the end of Q3 through a select dealer network and will have its public debut at the Elkhart RV Dealer Open House in Elkhart, Indiana in September.

5 Tips for Exploring National Parks in your Van or RV https://outsidevan.com/5-tips-for-exploring-national-parks-in-your-van-or-rv/ https://outsidevan.com/5-tips-for-exploring-national-parks-in-your-van-or-rv/#respond Fri, 16 Aug 2024 09:00:10 +0000 https://tempwebsitehost.net/?p=1328

Heading to your favorite national parks in a van? Here are key tips to make your adventure unforgettable and hassle-free:

1. Get a National Parks Pass

Invest in a National Parks Pass to explore multiple parks throughout the year. For just $80, you and up to four companions can access over 2,000 national sites, including parks, forests, monuments, and wildlife refuges. This pass covers entrance fees and grants access to various natural and cultural experiences, saving you money while offering an all-access pass to America’s stunning landscapes and historical treasures—a must-have for road warriors and nature lovers.

We designed our new van, Parks, to enhance your adventures, giving you the freedom to roam diverse terrains. With a custom-built van capable of handling off-road trails and long highway stretches, you can explore even the most remote parks without worry. The comfort and durability of Parks turn long drives and camping into a premium vacation.

2. Consider an RV Rental

If you don’t own a van or RV, renting one can be a great way to experience the freedom of the open road without a long-term commitment. This is a great way to see if an Outside Van like Parks would be the right fit for you! If you are unsure which van or RV is right for you, our friends at Warner Vans in Utah offer rentals of our Models, Syncline, and Approach!

3. Plan Your Camping Strategy

Planning is important, and each national park offers a unique camping experience to help you find the right spot for your adventure vehicle. Some parks, such as Yellowstone and Glacier, offer full hookups and spacious campsites, perfect for larger rigs. Others, like Big Bend, cater more to boondocking, with minimal amenities and off-grid camping. Some parks have size restrictions or limited RV access, so check park websites or contact them directly for specifics. If you prefer amenities like showers or a camp store, consider staying at a nearby private campground and day-tripping into the park.

We design all our vans, including Parks, to be self-sufficient, making them perfect for any camping scenario. What sets Parks apart from Outside Van’s other flagship models, Syncline and Approach, are components and a layout dialed in to fill the gap between the maneuverability and capability of Adventure Vans and the accessibility and connectivity of traditional full-sized RVs. Plus, the thoughtful design of Parks maximizes space and comfort, making every campsite feel like home. Additionally, you won’t have to worry about campsite size restrictions with our vans! We build on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis, creating a functional adventure rig perfect for both off-grid and campsite camping.

4. Time Your Visit Wisely

Timing can greatly enhance your national park experience. While each season offers beautiful scenery, shoulder seasons—spring and fall—are often the best times to visit. These periods typically see fewer crowds, milder weather, and possibly lower costs, making for a more enjoyable and relaxed adventure. However, if you plan a summer visit to a popular park, book campsites at least six months in advance, as they fill up quickly. No matter when you visit, doing a bit of research on the best times for specific parks will help you make the most of your trip.

Outside Van’s Parks is equipped to handle the elements. With top-quality insulation, efficient heating and cooling systems, and rugged all-terrain capabilities, Parks keeps you comfortable through seasonal extremes. Whether it’s a snowy winter in Zion or a hot summer in Joshua Tree, Parks ensures that your adventure isn’t limited by the weather.

5. Respect and Preserve the Parks

National parks are precious resources, and we all must help preserve them for future generations. Familiarize yourself with park regulations, including where camping is permitted, which trails to follow, and how to interact with wildlife safely. Always pack out what you bring in, leaving no trace of your visit. Stay on designated trails to protect fragile ecosystems and maintain a respectful distance from animals. Many parks are connected to Indigenous lands, so learning about the cultural significance of these areas can enrich your experience and deepen your respect for the land. By being a responsible visitor, you help ensure these beautiful places remain wild and unspoiled for future generations.

We’re releasing our Class-B Adventure Van, Parks, soon! To stay up to date, follow us on social media @outsidevan and subscribe to our newsletter! Parks will have it’s official debut at the Elkhart RV Dealer Show September 23rd-25th!

Enjoy the journey and remember to tread lightly as you explore! 🚐🌲
