Adding a TV to your bathroom is a straightforward upgrade once you’ve answered a few questions upfront. The decisions aren’t complicated, but making them in the right order saves you from buying something that doesn’t work as well as it should.

Here’s how to think through it.

Where Will You Actually Watch It?

This is the question most people skip, and it’s the one that determines everything else — size, placement, and finish.

A bathroom has distinct viewing positions that a living room doesn’t. You might be standing at the vanity getting ready. Soaking in the tub with your head resting back. Sitting on a bench in a large walk-in shower. Each of these puts you at a different distance from the wall, at a different angle, and in a different state of mind.

Before you think about size or finish, decide where your primary viewing position will be. If you’re mostly watching while getting ready at the vanity, a 24″ or 32″ screen at standing eye level is likely all you need. If you’re primarily watching from the tub across a large master bathroom, a 43″ or 55″ might make more sense.

Get this right first. Everything else follows.

It Has to Be Built for the Bathroom

Before anything else — size, finish, placement — the TV itself has to be designed for a bathroom environment. This sounds obvious, but it’s worth saying directly: a standard consumer TV does not belong in a bathroom.

Bathrooms are humid. Steam from a shower or bath works its way into everything. A regular TV isn’t sealed against moisture. Put a Sony or a Samsung in your bathroom and you’re likely looking at a shortened lifespan at best, a short circuit at worst.

A proper bathroom TV is moisture-resistant and certified to say so. Our bathroom TVs are IPX4-rated, which means they’ve been independently tested and certified to handle splashing and steam from any direction.

If a TV isn’t explicitly rated for bathroom use, it isn’t rated for bathroom use. That’s the first filter, before anything else.

Choosing the Right Size

Bathrooms are close-range viewing environments. The distance between you and the wall in most bathrooms is significantly shorter than a living room, which means screen size works differently here.

A useful rule of thumb: for a sharp, comfortable picture, your viewing distance should be roughly 1.5 to 2.5 times the screen’s diagonal size. In practice, that looks like this:

Most bathroom vanity setups fall in the 3–5 foot range, which makes a 24″ or 32″ screen the right call for the majority of mirror replacement installs. Tub and shower viewing tends to be a bit farther — 5–8 feet — where a 32″ or 43″ becomes more appropriate.

The most common mistake people make is defaulting to the largest size available. In a bathroom, a 55″ screen viewed from five feet away isn’t a better experience, it’s an uncomfortable one.

Choosing the Right Finish

Our bathroom TVs come in three finishes: white frame, black frame, and Magic Mirror. They’re not interchangeable, and the right choice depends on how you want the TV to live in the room when it’s off.

White frame — available in 24″. A clean, minimal option that blends into light-colored bathroom walls and tile. Good choice for a secondary screen that you want to feel like part of the room rather than a piece of technology.

Black frame — available in 24″, 32″, and 43″. Works well in modern bathrooms with dark fixtures, darker tile, or high-contrast design. More visible when off than the white frame, but still a purposeful look.

Magic Mirror — available across all sizes, including a custom vanity mirror size. The screen looks like a real mirror when off and a TV when on, with nothing to give it away in between. This is the right choice for a vanity mirror replacement. It pulls double duty as a functional mirror and disappears completely when you’re not watching. It also works well anywhere else in the bathroom where you want the TV to integrate into the design rather than announce itself.

If you’re replacing your bathroom mirror, Magic Mirror is almost always the answer. If you’re adding a TV to a wall that doesn’t currently have a mirror, the finish comes down to your bathroom’s design.

Brightness Matters More Than You’d Expect

Bathrooms are typically among the brightest rooms in a home. White walls, white tile, task lighting above the vanity, and natural light through windows all create an environment where a dim panel washes out quickly.

Our bathroom TVs are engineered specifically for this. Each screen size is tuned to the brightness requirements of that size and its typical viewing environment, not a one-size-fits-all approach. The result is a picture that stays crisp and vivid even in a well-lit bathroom, without you needing to dim the lights to watch comfortably.

This is one area where a standard TV simply can’t compete. A consumer TV moved into a bathroom will look fine in a dark room and struggle everywhere else.

The Short Version

Five questions, in order:

  1. Is the TV actually rated for bathroom use? If it isn’t IPX4-certified or better, it doesn’t belong in a bathroom. Full stop.
  2. Where will you primarily watch from? Vanity, tub, or shower — this determines placement and size range.
  3. How far will you be from the screen? Use the distance guide above to find the right size.
  4. Do you want the TV to double as a mirror? If yes, Magic Mirror. If no, choose a frame color that fits your bathroom’s design.
  5. Is the bathroom large or small? Larger bathrooms with longer viewing distances can support larger screens. Smaller bathrooms almost always call for 24″ or 32″.

In other words, if you’re planning a TV for your bathroom, bedroom, sauna, living room, or any other room in your home, and you want the TV to sit flush with the wall, we have you covered out of the box. You do not need to source separate framing or mounting hardware.

This means:

  • No guesswork on fit
  • No custom brackets
  • No compatibility issues
  • No searching for third-party parts

How Much Wall Depth Do You Need?

One of the most common concerns about installing an in-wall TV is wall depth.

Even our largest 75” model requires fewer than 3 inches.

Most standard interior walls can accommodate these dimensions. Your installer should confirm cavity depth before cutting, especially in older homes.

Installable in Virtually Any Wall, Although Solid Walls Require More Preparation

While most U.S. homes use drywall, we’ve installed in-wall TVs into many other wall types, including:

  • Plaster
  • Brick
  • Marble
  • Stone
  • Stucco
  • Tile
  • Custom millwork

The wall material changes the cutting method, not the installation concept.

A properly sized recess is created, the included framing system is secured, and the surface is finished cleanly around the display.

For masonry or stone, we recommend working with a contractor familiar with those materials. For someone with the right experience, these types of installations are common and very achievable with the right tools.

And, of course, if you’re installing your TV into drywall, the process is extremely straightforward.

Electrical Planning: What You’ll Need

If you want a clean look with no visible wires, power will need to be routed inside the wall.

That typically means:

  • An outlet at the installation location
  • In-wall cable routing
  • GFCI protection in wet areas

If power isn’t already available at that location, a licensed electrician may need to run a new line.

This is typically the most technical part of installing an in-wall TV. It applies to any recessed display, not just ours.

The Bottom Line

Installing an in-wall TV requires some planning, but in almost all cases it’s an extremely straightforward procedure.

Before installation, we recommend that you confirm:

  1. Wall depth
  2. Wall type
  3. Electrical access

Many mirror TVs begin as standard consumer televisions. A mirror is added. A housing is built around it. The result often looks fine on paper but struggles in real-world conditions. Dim images, uneven clarity, or mirrors that never quite look right when the screen is off.

A common mistake in mirror TV design is treating every size the same. We don’t.

A 32-inch mirror TV and a 75-inch mirror TV behave very differently. Light output, viewing distance, ambient lighting, and mirror darkness all change with size. So do the materials and components required to get the best result.

That’s why we:

  • Adjust panel brightness and resolution based on screen size
  • Tune mirror darkness and transmission to match that brightness
  • Select materials and internal components appropriate to each configuration

The goal is consistency to your eyes, not the specification sheet. A smaller mirror TV can’t look washed out in a bright bathroom, and a larger TV doesn’t sacrifice mirror quality in a modern living room. This is also why we make sure our larger TVs  (43-inches and over) all feature 4K Ultra-HD resolution. This size-specific tuning is a big reason our TVs simply look better in more environments.

Built for Living Rooms and Real-World Spaces

We’re often asked: “Why don’t you use OLED panels in your mirror TVs?”

The answer is simple: LED panels perform better in mirror TV applications. While OLED panels excel in contrast and black levels in traditional setups, high-performance mirror TVs have other needs: clear visibility through reflective glass under normal room lighting. This makes LED the superior choice.

This article explains why, in a mirror application, brightness and real-world visibility outweigh black levels, and why Parallel AV exclusively uses LED panels in our mirror TVs.

How OLED and LED Make Light

OLED: Pixel-Level Light

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels are “self-emissive,” meaning each pixel produces its own light. Pixels can turn completely off, giving OLED true blacks and outstanding contrast in dark rooms.

OLED panels typically emit between 400 and 800 nits (a nit is a unit of visible light, measuring how bright a display appears to the human eye). While excellent for contrast and color in dark environments, OLED panels are less effective behind a reflective surface, where the picture must remain visible through the mirror and under normal room lighting.

LED: Backlit Brightness

LED TVs use a backlight behind an LCD panel. The LCD layer selectively blocks or passes light from the LEDs to create the image. Because the light source is separate from the pixels, LED panels can be tuned to produce higher brightness, typically between 700 and 1,200 nits (again, nits measure the visible brightness of a display).

Why Brightness Matters More Than Black Levels in Mirror TVs

Mirror TVs face a unique challenge: the mirror reduces how much light reaches your eyes. Part of the panel’s light is reflected, and ambient room lighting can further diminish perceived brightness.

In this context:

  • OLED’s perfect blacks matter less, because light loss through the mirror limits contrast visibility.
  • LED’s higher brightness ensures the image is consistently clear and viewable, even when the mirror reduces some of the panel’s light.

Put simply: a mirror TV’s performance is determined by how much light actually reaches the viewer, not by perfect black levels that are primarily noticeable in dark-room setups.

What “Frequency Response” Really Means

Frequency response is a technical way of describing how evenly a speaker reproduces all the sounds you can hear, from low bass, to mid-range voices, to high treble.

To answer the sound-quality question objectively, we ran controlled frequency-response tests on multiple TVs:
