Use these tools for quick answers without leaving the software.

1. The Search Box: The Quickest Route

The fastest way to find answers is by using the Search menus and help box located on the main title bar.

  • How to use it: Click inside the search box, type your query (e.g., “Interlinear” or “Send/Receive”), and wait for results. Note: don’t press Enter after typing your query, unless you want to only see matching help topics, the lower pane shown here).

Users of Paratext will be familiar with our mission: equipping Bible translators with software that enables them to reach every tribe, tongue, and nation. The Paratext team is happy to announce the release of Paratext 10 Studio Preview 2 and to share the next stage in the journey of the world’s leading Bible translation software.

This new release builds on the foundation of Preview 1, which introduced a refreshed user interface, compatibility across Windows, Mac, and Linux, Send/Receive with Paratext 9, and access to Bible resources through the Digital Bible Library. Preview 2 expands those capabilities with features designed to make your translation work faster, smarter, and more accurate.

▶ Watch this video for an overview of Paratext 10 Studio Preview 2.

A Word About Preview 2

It’s important to note that Preview 2 is not yet a full release. This version is still under development and isn’t yet ready for full translation projects. But it is ready for exploration. You can download the Preview, test out new features, and provide feedback that directly shapes the future of Paratext.

Though you can Send/Receive between Paratext 10 Studio and Paratext 9, there are some project safety steps you should take in order to ensure your project stays secure.

To test out Paratext 10 Studio, we recommend that you do NOT use an active project. Instead, try one of these options:

  • Use a test or training project.OR
  • Use a copy of an active translation project.

Demo Videos

To give you a closer look, members of our development team recorded three short demo videos of the newest features in Paratext 10 Studio.

Hebrew & Greek Dictionaries

Accuracy and depth are essential in translation. With Preview 2, Paratext 10 Studio gives you access to the Semantic Dictionaries of Biblical Hebrew and Greek, a foundational feature to the Enhanced Resources utilized throughout your translation.

Manage Extensions

Flexibility is at the heart of Paratext 10 Studio. The new Manage Extensions tool lets you discover, enable, and control the extensions you need—while disabling the ones you don’t.

Paratext 10 Studio Preview

Paratext 10 Studio—the next generation of Paratext—entered its first public beta in April. This beta release, primarily aimed at extension developers, proves that the new “Studio” platform is up and running across Windows, macOS, and Linux and can already share projects seamlessly with Paratext 9. Over the coming months, two further betas will add everyday translation features such as Project Notes, Biblical Terms, richer resources, and real-time collaboration. Each stage is designed so teams can test the new version without risking their current work.

For most translators, the message is simple: keep using Paratext 9 for daily tasks, but be encouraged—steady progress is being made. By roughly mid-2026, Paratext 10 Studio is expected to offer everything you rely on today, plus a more flexible framework that will grow with future needs. We will keep you informed as the betas mature so you can plan a smooth transition when the time is right.

Paratext Metrics: Gain Insight into Your Projects

SIL Global has developed a tool for Paratext project administrators and organizations to track project progress with precision. Instead of relying on self-reported updates, Paratext Metrics provides real-time insights based on actual team activity.

How Does It Work?

Every Paratext project maintains a detailed history of activities on the Send/Receive server. By analyzing this data, Metrics reveals the true status of your project. For example, when a new verse appears, it indicates drafting has occurred. Other project stages are similarly tracked through creative analysis of team activities.

If you’re a Paratext organization or project administrator, we encourage you to explore the Metrics site. Currently, access is limited to Paratext Registry accounts linked to a Google domain. If your account qualifies, log in at https://metrics.paratext.org to get started.

  • Scripture Reference Settings
  • Numbers Settings
  • Character inventory

Compatibility with Previous Paratext versions

Paratext 9.5 is fully compatible with 9.0 – 9.4, although the new features will only be accessible from the newer versions.

Note: If you had a previous version of Paratext installed, installing Paratext 9.5 will replace it.

Plugin Compatibility

If you use any manually installed plugins with Paratext 9.4, Paratext 9.5 should see them by default, but we cannot guarantee that they will continue to work as expected.

If your plugin does not work in Paratext 9.5, please report a problem to the Paratext development team and to the plugin developers.

Thank you for your support!

Please let us know how Paratext 9.5 works for you. From within Paratext, you can go to Main menu > Help > Give Feedback, fill out the form, and click “Send” to let us know how we are doing. The BEST Way to Print a Draft 📄 https://paratext.org/2024/05/20/best-way-to-print-draft/ Mon, 20 May 2024 12:44:12 +0000 https://staging.paratext.org/?p=28773 Imagine printing a high-quality draft of Scripture, complete with pictures, formatting, and other important details in just minutes. PTXprint makes this possible, and it now replaces the “Print Draft” option in Paratext 9.4.

PTXprint Workshop Scripture
Scripture printed during a PTXprint workshop

It is easy to get overwhelmed with all the possibilities. However, the default settings are typically adequate for a quality draft printout, though you may want to make a few adjustments.

To help you get started printing drafts using PTXprint, we have produced a series of short videos. We’ll also introduce each of the videos below.

PTXprint Training Videos Playlist

PTXprint Video Series

Introduction to PTXprint

The introductory video discusses an overview of printing draft translations using PTXprint. It advises you to run basic checks first. It also gives you an overview of the other videos in this series:

  1. How to Install PTXprint: A step-by-step installation guide.
  2. Make Initial PDF: Introduction to getting started with PTXprint.
  3. Adjust Settings in PTXprint, Rerun: Tips for fine-tuning settings and optimizing the layout.
  4. Booklet Printing: Instructions for using PTXprint to create booklets.
  5. Reopen a PDF to Reprint: How to locate and print additional copies of a PDF.

1 – How to Install PTXprint

This video outlines the steps for exporting a draft translation in Paratext, installing PTXprint (if necessary), and setting up PTXprint for quality draft exports.

2 – Print an Initial Draft

After installing PTXprint, you are ready to create a PDF draft. Go to the Project menu > Export Draft PDF (PTXprint) to get started.

PTXprint uses the settings and fonts specified in Paratext to easily create well-formatted PDFs of Scripture.

3 – Adjust Settings

After generating an initial PDF, you can customize specific settings to make your draft appear exactly as you want. For example, you can easily adjust margins and add custom footer text. Changes you make here will be saved for the next time you print this draft.

Use the search function in PTXprint to find various settings, or hover over the controls to see detailed tips about that setting.

Once you’re happy with the result, print the PDF!

4 – Print a Booklet!

PTXprint also makes printing booklets user-friendly! What used to be a hassle is now simplified, thanks to PTXprint.

5 – Print (or Share) Additional Copies

Printing additional copies of a book is also simple with PTXprint. You can also share the PDF file via email or USB drive as needed.

Print Advanced Copies Too!

PTXprint can be used to create very nice-looking “simple” drafts. It can also be used for more complex tasks, like publishing a full diglot New Testament with minimal effort!

How to Update PTXprint

PTXprint continues to be developed with regular updates. Updates are released on the PTXprint website, and you can keep an eye out for the little “updates available” icon that appears to let you know there’s a new version available.

PTXprint Update Available

We encourage you to download the latest version as you are able.

Note: Clicking the button will take you to the PTXprint website, but will not download or install it for you automatically. You will need to choose to download/install the update yourself.

PTXprint Resources

The PTXprint website is also a valuable resource to find training resources, learn how to use PTXprint effectively, and stay up-to-date with the latest insights for using PTXprint.

These additional resources are also available:

We encourage you to give this fantastic software a try! It’s easy to use, and we really think you’ll appreciate it!

*The Study Bible Additions (SBA) features implemented in 9.4 requires that the SBA project be migrated, due to a data format change. The new 9.4 SBA data format is NOT compatible with the PT 9.3 version. In order to use the new SBA features, all project members should move to PT 9.4 and the project administrator should migrate the SBA project.

Paratext Product Owners

As Paratext grows and expands, the Paratext team is growing and expanding with it!

Vladimir Vdovikov (United Bible Societies) is now the product owner for Paratext 9, responsible for updates, bug fixes, and new versions.

After many years as the Paratext 9 owner, Glenn Pruitt has stepped into a new role as the product owner for Platform.Bible and Paratext.Bible (the next generation of Paratext, currently in development).

Thank you to both Vladimir and Glenn for their service and leadership in these essential roles.
