Following a meeting with our senior managers, we have decided that PAY360 will still go ahead, but not on March 17th. We have decided to go for the same location, the Business Design Centre in just five months from now, when we think things will have calmed down and the situation is more familiar, on August 12th 2020.
We will ensure the content is updated to reflect the industry at this time. On behalf of the EPA community, we thank you for your support in these difficult times.
If you have any additional queries or questions, please feel free to reach out to us on [email protected]
Best wishes,
The PAY360 team
BDC will continue to follow advice from the Government, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England. Based on current evidence, novel coronavirus (COVID-19) presents with flu-like symptoms including a fever, a cough, or difficulty breathing. The current evidence is that most cases appear to be mild.
Advice for UK Residents and International Visitors
The advice for UK residents who think they may be affected is to take common-sense steps to avoid close contact with other people, including not going to work, school or public areas and not using public transport. Those concerned should please contact 111 or make an appointment with their GP. International visitors can also contact 111 or 999.
NHS 111 is a 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week telephone advice service for members of the public to phone if they have an urgent medical concern; 999 is the contact number for the Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Police services and should be used in an emergency.
Please be aware that calls to 111 from a foreign-registered mobile phone, within the UK, may not work and may not be free. For anyone unable to call 111, the alternative number is 0300 020 0155.
Attending Events at Business Design Centre (BDC)
If you are due to attend an event at the BDC and think you may be affected, please stay indoors, either at home or within your accommodation, avoiding contact with other people and please contact NHS 111 or 999.
If you have travelled from the following countries, we recommend that you do not come to the venue and avoid contact with people until you have been back in the country for 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms.
If you are experiencing symptoms, including cough, fever or shortness of breath, you should not travel to events at the venue, even if your symptoms are mild.
Feeling Unwell Whilst Onsite
If you begin to feel unwell whilst attending an event at the BDC, please visit the First Aid Room on the third floor of the venue.
There are hand sanitisers at every toilet facility in the venue and at the entrance to the building. We are actively encouraging staff, exhibitors, tenants and guests to maintain good personal hygiene, with advice displayed around the venue.
This is a developing situation and we ask that you refer to the latest information and advice on this matter from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England, which is kept up to date on the gov.uk website.
British people travelling and living overseas following the outbreak of novel coronavirus should check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice.
Summary of Action Taken
Over 600 attendees from across the payments industry came together last week to collaborate, network and learn at the Emerging Payment Association’s (EPA) PAY360 conference, in association with Visa. It was the biggest edition of the payments conference yet, taking place in a new, larger location at the Business Design Centre in London.
The event featured over 45 payments industry stalwarts, including Jeni Mundy of VISA, Maha El Dimachki of the FCA, Marion King of NatWest, Scott Abrahams of Mastercard, Tao Tao of Alipay, Laura McCracken of Facebook, Julian Sawyer of Starling Bank, and Will Sorby of N26, delivering talks and panel discussions on the theme of ‘Improving, understanding and exploring real-world innovations’.
Marion King, Director of Payments at Natwest, talked about how to balance customer expectation, innovation and regulation. “Let’s think about today,” she said, “as well as the excitement of future digital innovation. How does regulation play in? And what do customers want – all customers? These things create tension. We want to go faster, but we want it to be safe, and those two things aren’t always complementary.”
In an all-star panel discussion entitled ‘Adapt or Die – Digital Banking Transformation’, market leaders explored best practice in everything from overcoming legacy challenges to changing work cultures within the Fintech banking space. Søren Rode Andreasen, Chief Digital Officer at Danske Bank, commented, “Technology is readily available, and everyone knows what to do. But what is stopping bankers deploy this is their culture.”
Closing the conference, Andrea Dunlop, Chair of the EPA Advisroy Board and CEO of Paysafe, spoke about how inclusion is one of the most important hurdles for the payments industry to overcome. “Companies are becoming more customer and consumer centric,” she said, “creating products that are more inclusive. And it’s refreshing that the industry is being realistic and acknowledging that there are still steps to be taken towards improvement.”
The conference was supported by the PAY360 Event App, which encouraged delegates to line their digital wallets with the Collaborite cryptocurrency. Collaborite could be earned by scanning exhibitor QR codes and scheduling meetings using the app. This could then be spent at the PAY360 store, with the day’s top prize being gift voucher and tablets from Amazon. The app also facilitated the payments trivia game, Trivial Paysuit, which had a first prize consisting of a McLEAR payment ring pre-loaded with £1000.
Anna Campagnoli, Portfolio Director at the EPA, said. “The 2019 event was an enormous success, with our largest number of attendees yet and over nine hours of learning and networking. Some of the biggest thought leaders in payments gave fantastic talks on the hottest industry topics, delivering invaluable insights and knowledge. We’re already planning how to make the 2020 event even bigger and better.”
]]>Choosing the right payments option can be the best early decision your business makes
If you are currently setting up your platform and are starting to think about payments, bear in mind, platform payments work differently than payments for more traditional ecommerce businesses.
For traditional ecommerce businesses, the payment flow is simple. Money is transferred from a buyer to a seller using a payment gateway and acquirer. We won’t walk you through the entire ‘four-party model’ (as it is known) now, but if you’re interested in how it works, this article explains it well. This is how online card payments have been made for decades, with the experience becoming sleeker and quicker for the customer in recent years.

Anders la Cour, CEO of Banking Circle said: “Businesses operating in the FinTech and PayTech sectors are facing numerous opportunities and challenges, both domestically in the UK and globally. It’s more important than ever, therefore, for these enterprises to have a forum in which to collaborate and learn from each other, so that they can deliver leading edge solutions that further the digital economy. And we’re excited to be part of the EPA’s plans for PAY360 to provide that forum.”
Event Director Mike Seaman, who has organised several award-winning events, is building PAY360 to double the size of 2018, not only in terms of attendees and exhibitors, but also in opportunities to see. Next year the conference with revolve around the theme “Improving Trust and Understanding of Payments Amongst Consumers and SMEs”, and will explore consumer and SME understanding of how digital payments can help them. The conference will still feature the elements that have underpinned the event over the last five years – led by the community, unparalleled networking opportunities, international keynote speakers, and thought-provoking discussions. But a range of new innovative ideas will extend the value of the conference to delegates.
In particular, through Banking Circle’s sponsorship of the PAY360 Business Lounge, delegates will be able to network, conduct meetings, catch up on work as well as recharge themselves and their devices.
Banking Circle will also give a presentation on the show floor using the dynamic PechaKucha format – the speaker will have 20 slides with 20 seconds for each to deliver Banking Circle’s core messages.
Banking Circle’s sponsorship of PAY360 is part of a larger commitment to promote growth of the UK payments industry globally, which also includes Banking Circle’s sponsorship of the Emerging Payments Association’s Project International Trade, which has spearheaded trade missions for EPA members around the world, including China, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Serbia. As a result, it has given EPA members access to new market knowledge, platforms to raise their profile, and the opportunity to develop strong business ties in nascent and growing markets.
“We are delighted to welcome Banking Circle as a sponsor of PAY360. This is a major brand partnership and is another milestone in our ambitious plans to double the PAY360 event in 12 months”, said Mike Seaman. “It is fantastic to have innovative EPA members such as Banking Circle supporting our plans and demonstrating their commitment and support of the EPA community.”

]]>Without trust and understanding, adoption of new payments products will be limited, and growth of the payments industry will falter. Speakers and attendees at PAY360 will together explore topics like:
This more customer centric theme is one of many new initiatives made by PAY360 Event Director Mike Seaman, who’s goal it is to double PAY360 in size, not only in terms of attendees and exhibitors, but also in opportunities to see. These initiatives range from using the dynamic PechaKucha format, an interactive event app underpinned by its own cryptocurrency and linked to a retail outlet, a meet the speakers feature and an opportunity for delegates to win £1,000 in our quiz shoot-out Trivial Paysuit.
These initiatives would not have been possible to implement without the support of Visa, who remain our Headline Sponsor for the second year in a row.
