Naturally the first thing you’ll need to do in order to get up and running is to download the image.
We distribute these images as .iso files, which are commonly referred to as “disk images.”
You have a few choices to download an .iso one is SourceForge and the mirror would be at OSSPlanet

The most significant difference between Debian and Devuan is the init system:

  • Debian uses systemd as its default init system
  • Devuan was created specifically to avoid systemd, offering alternatives like SysV init, OpenRC, and runit

Our Progress and Plans in 2025 https://peppermintos.com/2025/02/our-progress-and-plans-in-2025/ https://peppermintos.com/2025/02/our-progress-and-plans-in-2025/#comments Mon, 03 Feb 2025 00:46:01 +0000 https://peppermintos.com/?p=6206 As we step into the second month of 2025, we wanted to share an update on our recent activities and upcoming projects. First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our community for your support and valuable feedback.

The past few months have been incredibly busy as we’ve focused on improving Bubbles, our ISO compiler. With the growing interest from our community in contributing to various Desktop environments, we recognized the need for a more streamlined process. We’ve been working diligently to improve and make it easier for contributors to integrate their configurations into our pipeline, ensuring better scalability and efficiency.

A few months ago, we started to incorporate a Void base into our build pipelines. While testing has generally yielded positive results, we’re working on the challenges that come with a true rolling release. Rest assured, all our builds, regardless of the base, maintain the consistent look and feel of our main releases, featuring the XFCE Desktop environment. Although we don’t have a PepVoid release yet, it’s a project we’re actively developing.

With Debian Trixie on the horizon, we’ve been conducting thorough tests to prepare for its stable release. We’re excited about the possibilities this new version brings and are working to ensure a smooth transition.

Follow our channels, join our community discussions, and be part of the process. See you there!

Manuel Rosa on exploring Linux development and AçorOS https://peppermintos.com/2024/07/manuel-rosa-on-exploring-linux-development-and-acoros/ https://peppermintos.com/2024/07/manuel-rosa-on-exploring-linux-development-and-acoros/#comments Sun, 14 Jul 2024 18:04:24 +0000 https://peppermintos.com/?p=6150 Peppermint’s package maintainer and core contributor Manuel Rosa and I crossed time zones to discuss his journey from distro-hopping, contributing to Peppermint OS, and creating his Debian-based distribution in AçorOS Linux.

Manual Rosa loves to tinker with technology, pull it apart and see how things work. This fascination drove his curiosity to reconfigure, break, and reinstall his Windows XP countless times as a teenager. Later, discovering Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, the popular OS drove curiosity to eventually distro hop towards Manjaro where he found an active community and its users passionate, frequently sharing videos and tutorials for building their re-spin of the Arch Linux based desktop. Manuel eventually built his variant, re-configuring, breaking, and reinstalling Manjaro. The rolling release distribution longtime found a home as his desktop, until an update broke everything, he joked.

In late 2016, what will become AçorOS Linux was born. Manuel Rosa began studying Debian development fueled by his creative fascination with designing and maintaining, his personalized desktop, and feedback from his videos on YouTube encouraged him to make AcorOS available to the community.

“I’m thrilled when I see AçorOS meets the needs of others, while its my vision for a Linux desktop, Peppermint is our vision as a community.”

Manuel Rosa

In parallel Manual became an active contributor to the Peppermint OS community support forums where his experience and skills working with Debian-based distributions guided users through customizing their own desktop experiences. As Peppermint’s package maintainer, Manuel collaborates with our development team, and community, and continues to test and improve AçorOS.

“Peppermint is a larger project with an established team, and users, and my contributions pulled me out of my comfort zone; I’ve learned more than I ever anticipated [collaborating with a team].”

AçorOS 6.0 is available for download for 32-bit and 64-bit systems featuring your choice of desktops including, XFCE, LXQT, Openbox, and Cinnamon.

A New Peppermint OS Release with More Choices https://peppermintos.com/2024/07/a-new-peppermint-os-release-with-more-choices/ https://peppermintos.com/2024/07/a-new-peppermint-os-release-with-more-choices/#comments Mon, 01 Jul 2024 13:30:30 +0000 https://peppermintos.com/?p=6128 We’re excited to announce a new wave of Peppermint OS builds – including a brand new category called Peppermint Loaded!

Peppermint OS: Your Clean & Customizable Desktop

Our flagship Peppermint OS stays true to its roots, offering a lightweight XFCE desktop that lets you choose the applications you need. This keeps your system efficient and uncluttered – perfect for those who prefer a minimalist approach. Choose from 32-bit, 64-bit, all featuring the familiar Peppermint experience with only the essentials pre-installed.

Introducing Peppermint Loaded: Perfect for New Users

Many users have requested a pre-configured option, and we’ve listened! Peppermint Loaded is a sleek and fully-populated XFCE desktop ideal for new users or those who want a more out-of-the-box experience. Get started quickly with essential applications pre-installed, including:

  • Firefox
  • GIMP
  • LibreOffice
  • Atril
  • Inkscape
  • Thunderbird
  • Gnome System Tools
  • Timeshift

…and more! Peppermint Loaded is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

A few highlights to mention:

  • Btop++: This powerful process monitor takes the place of Htop, offering a more informative and visually appealing interface.
  • xDaily: We built a GUI for those users who prefer to use this method to maintain their system, thank you to all those in the community who provided feedback for us.
  • pfetch: Our custom replacement for Neofetch, providing system information in a clean format.

Flatpak Support (Peppermint Loaded Only): Peppermint Loaded comes with Flatpak pre-installed for easy access to a wide range of applications. We’ve also forked the Mint Store to seamlessly integrate with Flatpak for a smooth software installation experience. (Please note: Flatpaks are not currently supported on 32-bit systems.)

Finally a few notes we want to share:
You might encounter a delay after running the /usr/sbin/update-system script during installation. This is completely normal and doesn’t signify an error. The installer operates in debug mode, which can cause the update process to appear slower than usual.

Why the wait? The script is automatically updating your system with the latest software packages (updates) in the background. This ensures you have a fully up-to-date system upon your first boot.

You can read more about the build changes here
Download the ISOs from here.

From the team we would like to thank you all for your continued support and contributions!

Peppermint Mini Releases https://peppermintos.com/2024/04/peppermint-mini-releases/ https://peppermintos.com/2024/04/peppermint-mini-releases/#comments Sat, 06 Apr 2024 11:25:51 +0000 https://peppermintos.com/?p=6091 We’re thrilled to share the latest updates with you! Our Mini ISO releases bring a host of improvements designed to make your user experience smoother.

First off, firmware. We’ve listened to your feedback and addressed a significant gap by integrating essential firmware directly into the ISOs.

But that’s not all. We’ve also introduced a new banner in the installer, ensuring a consistent theme throughout the installation process. It’s a small touch that adds to the overall polish of your system setup.

In addition to these visual enhancements, we’ve been hard at work refining the ISO building process and tweaking tasksel to give you more control. Now, nothing is marked for installation by default

We’ve taken inspiration from Debian’s approach to ISO building while still incorporating our unique installer theme and custom scripts. The result? A seamless experience that combines the best of both worlds.

The ISOs aren’t just for online installations. You can now use them offline to set up a basic system without a graphical interface, providing even more flexibility.

Thank you again for all the community support!

You can download the Mini’s from here , checkout the builddate for further details,
