I sincerely hope so too, Ivan. It’s just simply unfair and the attitude is so heavy-handed.

Comment on Jamaican coffee is not a mere commodity; it is community by Suzette Walters https://petchary.wordpress.com/2026/03/07/jamaican-coffee-is-not-a-mere-commodity-it-is-community/#comment-95363 Sun, 08 Mar 2026 14:49:40 +0000 http://petchary.wordpress.com/?p=54635#comment-95363 So very true and appropriate. If the Sippers could see the effort and resilience of the farmers that affords them to drink a cup, then more appreciation would be given. I remember my mother how she worked hard on her farm especially in the September-October rains when she has to get the ripe berries off the trees before the rain beat them off. Because of the terrain and road conditions labor is short and is dependent on family and community members. Rough life but honest bread. God bless their souls!

Comment on The “Miamification” of Jamaica by Civil society calls for restructuring of environmental and planning governance in Jamaica – Petchary's Blog https://petchary.wordpress.com/2024/01/28/the-miamification-of-jamaica/#comment-95357 Sat, 07 Mar 2026 03:49:08 +0000 http://petchary.wordpress.com/?p=48073#comment-95357 […] There were sighs of frustration all round. As we each presented our views, Dr. Devon Taylor, who was joining us online, then lobbed a very significant reminder into the ring: NEPA does not, in fact, come under the umbrella of the Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, but remains in the firm grip of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), where it has been for years. Now that, happily, there is a stand-alone environment ministry, how could NEPA, Jamaica’s environmental regulator, not be in that ministry? What was the purpose of the new ministry, apart from addressing the critical water issue (a very political one, judging from the number of blocked roads)? Was it created to ensure that there was someone to attend international climate change meetings? What about environmental matters at home, which should be the purview of NEPA? Is it subservient to the “Infrastructure Development” agenda? […]
