Senegal National Men’s Football Team captain Sadio Mane has responded to Africa’s football governing body (CAF) regarding the Appeals Board of the body ruling in favour of Morocco’s protest to strip the 2025 AFCON title from Senegal.

The decision to hand the title to Morocco by CAF’s Appeals Board, was announced on Tuesday, March 17 after Morocco’s appeal case on an original ruling regarding Senegal forfeiting the 2025 AFCON Final for breaching Articles 82 and 84 of CAF’s regulations, was upheld. At the 2025 AFCON Finals, Senegal players walked off the pitch to protest against the penalty decision by referee Jean-Jacques Ndala but returned after a few minutes to continue the game and register the 1-0 win after extra time to clinch its second ever AFCON title.

However, the decision by CAF on March 17 meant that Morocco are now winners of the trophy but Sadio Mane responded to this in a post on Instagram.

“The world knows the true champions” he wrote and added that,

“What happened has gone too far. This is not the football we fight for, not the Africa we believe in. There is too much corruption in our game, and it’s killing the passion of millions of fans across the continent.”

“Players give everything on the pitch, but decisions off it are deciding matches and trophies. I’m deeply disappointed not just for Senegal, but for African football as a whole. We deserve better. The fans deserve fairness, transparency, and respect.”

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of training for the first batch of recruits following the completion of its latest nationwide recruitment exercise.

In a press release, the military disclosed that a total of 2,000 recruits have been selected as part of the first batch out of four planned groups.

According to the statement dated March 17, the selected recruits have been invited to report to their respective selection centres across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, at 9:00 a.m.

The recruits are expected to collect their appointment letters and prospectuses ahead of the start of their training.

The statement also addressed applicants who were unable to proceed due to medical conditions. It encouraged those with curable medical issues identified during the screening process to seek treatment, assuring them that they would be reconsidered at a later date at no cost.

In a notable development, the military disclosed that 18 individuals who sustained injuries during the El-Wak Stadium stampede last year have been included in the first batch of recruits.

Additionally, five others have been given the opportunity after being sponsored by families of victims who lost their lives in the same incident.

The Armed Forces further assured applicants who were not selected in the first batch to remain calm, stating that the selection process for the remaining batches is still ongoing.

A district court in Kumasi has sentenced a food vendor to 20 days in prison for repeatedly defying orders banning the use of open fire at a local market, in a case authorities say underscores ongoing enforcement challenges.

Kande Seidu, who operates at Alabar Market, was handed the custodial sentence on Monday, March 16, 2026, by District Court Two sitting at Prempeh Assembly Hall.

The presiding judge, Her Worship Deborah Gyawa Donkor ordered the jail term after finding that Seidu had persistently ignored directives from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Prosecutors told the court that Seidu, together with her sibling Fati Seidu, had repeatedly violated safety regulations despite several warnings and abatement notices issued by the KMA’s Environmental Health Unit.

The two were first hauled before the court on January 15, 2026, for breaching Sections 27 and 29 of the KMA Public Market By-Laws (2020), which prohibit the use of open fire in market spaces due to fire risk and public safety concerns.

During proceedings on February 23, Kande Seidu left the courtroom before her case was called, while her sister remained and pleaded guilty.

Fati Seidu was fined Ghc1,200—equivalent to 100 penalty units—after admitting to the offence.

The court subsequently issued a bench warrant for Kande Seidu’s arrest following her absence. That warrant led to her re-arrest and eventual sentencing.

Authorities say the ruling sends a strong signal to traders who continue to disregard market safety regulations, particularly those related to fire hazards in densely populated commercial areas.

Residents of Tema Community One were thrown into panic on Monday afternoon after a Sky Arrow microlight helicopter crashed into a school compound at Site 18, leaving two people feared dead.

The incident, which occurred around 3:30 p.m., disrupted normal activity in the busy residential enclave as the aircraft reportedly descended abruptly before crashing into a school park. Eyewitnesses described scenes of confusion and alarm as students and residents rushed to safety.

Plan B FM’s Abusuapanyin Mireku, who recounted the incident , indicated that the sudden nature of the crash left little time for anyone in the vicinity to react, intensifying the shock among onlookers.

Initial information suggests that the victims are believed to be the pilots on board the aircraft. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly, securing the area and commencing rescue and recovery efforts. A senior officer confirmed that two bodies had been retrieved from the wreckage, deepening fears of fatalities.

As a precautionary measure, all teachers and pupils were evacuated from the premises while emergency teams worked to contain the situation. The crash site has since been cordoned off as investigators begin the process of determining the cause of the crash.

Authorities are yet to officially identify the victims, with further updates expected as investigations progress.

A Tema Central Communication Team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Aning, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to significantly expand recruitment into Ghana’s security services.

Speaking on Plan B FM, in a programme hosted by Kofi Sekyi, Mr. Aning described the policy as mere propaganda aimed at deceiving Ghanaians and prospective applicants.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Monday, the directive followed a high-level meeting chaired by the President with heads of the country’s security agencies, alongside the Ministers responsible for the Interior and Defence, to review the ongoing recruitment process.

The statement noted that President Mahama subsequently ordered an increase in recruitment numbers from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years, with the aim of strengthening the nation’s security architecture and improving manpower across the agencies.

However, Mr. Aning questioned the feasibility of the plan, insisting it would not yield the intended results. He further accused the President of adopting a populist approach and “playing on the minds” of the public.

He also criticised the reported change in the entry age for recruitment into the security services from 25 to 35 years, arguing that the decision is impractical and unlikely to be effective.
