Hi there! My name is Alan Pemberton, which you probably already knew as it's written in large font right above this.
About 35-40 years ago, I was playing and writing homebrew text adventures for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and QL computers; mainly for my own personal amusement and to inflict them upon my close family members. Some of the QL adventures had a brief spell as commercial releases, but they have long since been turned over to the public domain, as is right and proper by this time.
For some reason, last year I was drawn back into the retro computing scene and got the urge to write adventures again. What I want to do is return to the fun and excitement of the good old days, and make retro-style games that will still run on that old hardware, as well as emulators on modern computers, but with an emphasis on graphics for every location. That isn't going to be particularly easy, as I'm no artist. I intend to explore various avenues such as AI generated images, photographs and just drawing them myself.
The Sinclair QL might seem an odd and obscure retro backwater to inhabit, but I got fairly proficient at writing QL SuperBASIC code, so I'm sticking with it, and all of the games I write will have a version for the QL. In addition, I would like to create versions for the Spectrum Next at the same time, as I have one coming my way fairly soon (hopefully). When the QL core for that machine is finalised, I aim to create "high resolution" versions of my QL games optimised to run on that.
As a result of all this, my family members are being bombarded by my games again, but now that I'm using itch, pehaps one or two others might find them and have a go too...?
Bugs / comments / stuck?
Please feel free to use the comments sections of the individual games to ask about the above. Especially if you find that the game doesn't run properly - I will try my best to fix the problem!
Donations
I have disabled donations, as I'm doing this primarily for the fun of it. Feel free to share these games with others if you like, just make sure they stay free to download. Thanks for checking out my games. I hope you enjoy them if you give them a whirl.
