We engineer advanced systems architecture for the next generation of marine platforms

RAD was founded in 2018 by Rich Daltry and Dan Hook. Rich and Dan previously built and developed some of the world’s most advanced marine robotic vessels for the offshore industry, defence and oceanographic sectors. They quickly established an experienced team of product designers, engineers, software developers and integration specialists focused on developing high-performance marine systems built around intelligent control and scalable architecture.

Systems thinking

Our team has extensive first-hand experience of the operational limitations of traditional marine drive systems. We recognised an opportunity to rethink how propulsion, control, power management and connectivity are integrated — delivering modular, electric systems that enable OEM boat builders and uncrewed platform developers to build smarter, more capable vessels.

Passion and expertise

The driving force behind RAD is to create robust, integrated marine systems by combining modern electronics, power control, software and networked architectures. We specialise in reliable performance in harsh marine environments, with a focus on simplicity, serviceability and seamless integration across complex robotic platforms.

The future

Marine platforms are becoming increasingly connected, autonomous and systems-driven. RAD supports this evolution with open, scalable architectures designed for reliability, ruggedness and long-term upgradeability — helping boatbuilders and operators build future-ready vessels with confidence.

FuturePlus

RAD Propulsion works closely with The Sustainability Group using its innovative FuturePlus platform to track, measure and manage our sustainability practices. By dividing sustainability into the five key topics of Climate, Diversity and Inclusion, Social, Economic and Environment, FuturePlus enables us to focus on areas that can create the most impact and build environmental responsibility into multiple aspects of our business.

Our journey so far...

2018

Richard Daltry and Dan Hook started RAD Propulsion with a vision of re-imagining marine propulsion using the advantages of the latest electric technology, computing power and connectivity to ensure a step forward in usability and performance.

2019

We partnered with RS Electric to develop a RIM drive for its innovative Pulse electric RIB. We moved to offices at Fareham Innovation Centre.

2020

In 2020 we continued the research and development of the innovative thin section RIM drive technology with Innovate UK funding. We focussed on building our robust supply chain ready for further product development efforts.

2021-22

We began developing the RADBus control architecture to be ready for the our first products in 2022. This included early prototypes of the RAD throttle and RAD VCU. Development of the RAD 40, a 40kW, 400V outboard, began. A product suitable for small craft in commercial, leisure and government markets. We moved into new premises at Universal Marina and the RAD 40 along with the RADBus connected throttle, kill cord and steering continued to be developed to be production ready.

2023 - 24

During this period we saw extensive RAD 40 trials and qualifications. We launched the RAD 40 mid 2023 and secured the first sales. Early 2024 saw the introduction of the RAD battery to our product line, which compliments the RAD 40 system, so we are able to deliver the whole package to our customers. RAD closed its pre series A investment round for £4 Million which will drive sales and marketing activity for the RAD 40 and fund the development and production of future RAD products.

2025 - 26

RAD has delivered a strong period of growth, marked by the launch of the Power console, Power console+ and the RAD 120. We are proud to see our systems operating across a broad range of customer vessels and applications. Significant investment in our robotics capability has strengthened our offering across multiple platforms, with uncrewed systems now supported in a growing number of sectors.
