The submissions were reviewed by an experienced panel of six judges - whom I should thank for all their hard work and words of wisdom.

Thank you!

Gert Jan van Halem, Chief Technology Officer at Devoteam

Markus Eisele, Developer Adoption Program Lead, Red Hat Germany

Markus Heimbach, Director of Engineering at Dynatrace

Jose Quaresma, DevOps practice Leader at Accenture

Antonio Valle Gutierrez, Global Head of BPM & BRMS Architecture, BBVA

You can find out more about our judges here.

In mid-December we announced the winners, and in reverse order here they are:

In third place was Victor CX, an auditory CUI for visually impaired or differently-abled users for building inclusive interfaces that access and manage an organization’s technology products and online services, which was developed by an individual contributor, Allister Beharry, who walks away with a cash prize of €3000.

In second place and winner of a €5000 cash prize was rhv2prometheus, an app which can build metrics from the ovirt-engine api from RHV and present them as prometheus format, then can be scraped from an openshift prometheus to integrate fully infrastructure monitoring, which was created in Spain by Xana Da Silva Mori, Michael Ramirez, Mario Parra de Miguel and Victor Parraga.

In first place was the ACE: Airline Customer Experience, a system developed to take the pain and waiting time out of app development at airlines where it can take up to nine months to make changes to systems that impact customer experience, often because they are monolithic mainframe applications. Phil Ogilvie, Andre McGuire, RH Carboleo, Mizanur Rahman, Daniel Weatherhead, will have free flights, accommodation and attendance at Red Hat Summit 2020 in San Francisco, in addition to sharing the top prize of €10,000.

You can find out more about all the winners and submissions here. In addition to all the participants and judges, I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Red Hat who made the competition possible. As a campaign to raise awareness and drive up developer adoption, the Hackathon was a great success that really helped shine a light on the agility that open source technology enables for creative and innovative developers.

By Manfred Bortenschlager, Agile Integration Business Development, EMEA
Fri, 20 Dec 2019 00:00:00 +0000 https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/hackathon-winners-announced/ https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/hackathon-winners-announced/ Winners Announcement changed to December 12
Hi Everyone! We’ll be announcing the winners of the Red Hat Hackathon during a webinar on Thursday, December 12 at 19:00 CET (7pm).

Due to some internal logistic challenges we have postponed the announcement by one week. It is pretty simple:

Go to our Github Organization Page.

Navigate to the corresponding repository related to the technology you are reporting bugs to. Example: Decision Manager

In the issues section, open a new one by clicking on the new issue button.

Add a clear description and label it.

Get some extra points in the hackathon. Check the Judging Criteria Section for more information.

Why contribute to open source projects? There are a number of reasons to contribute to OSS (Open-Source Software).
Thu, 17 Oct 2019 00:00:00 +0000 https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/why-open-source/ https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/why-open-source/ How to Make a Great Submission Video
We are halfway through the Red Hat ReBoot CX - EMEA challenge! Submissions are due October 31st before 13:00 CET.

Start your submission now

Starting a submission is a good way to make sure that your app meets the requirements. There’s nothing worse than getting to the deadline, only to realize that you’re missing a key component. Remember: once you submit a project, you can keep editing it as needed at any time prior to the submission deadline. Need a primer on how the submission form works? Head over to our submission form tutorial.

Prepare your video

We know as devs you’re expertise lies in building the software - so keep building! - however, the submission video needs time too! It’s often the first (and sometimes only!) thing that judges review.

Your video tells the story behind your submission, providing a clear to showcase your software and talent in a video:

Establish your elevator pitch. In the first few seconds of your video, explain how your software solution uses Red Hat technology and how you ReBoot customer experience with open source!

Within 60 seconds, viewers tend to lose interest, so use this time wisely to keep them engaged!

Show, don’t tell. Providing real life context and showing users firsthand how you’re going to improve customer services through your solution will help judges understand and appreciate your product design.

Keep it simple. Per the official rules, your video shouldn’t be longer than five minutes.

Don’t wait until the last minute to upload your video. Due to file size, format, and your Internet connection, uploading a video to YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

Get organized. Write out a script of what you’ll say and demonstrate in your video and rehearse it before recording. Essentially a good script should talk about:

The problem that your potential customers face.

Existing solutions to the problem.

The solution that your software provides.

How the software provides it.

We are halfway through the Red Hat ReBoot CX - EMEA challenge! Submissions are due October 31st before 13:00 CET.
Thu, 10 Oct 2019 00:00:00 +0000 https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/how-to-make-a-good-video/ https://redhat-hackathon.github.io/blog/how-to-make-a-good-video/
