I grew up in Wiltshire, came to Cambridge in the 1990s as a student (NatSci & CompSci), and never left. I work for the University of Cambridge in UIS, recently moved into management after 20+ years as a software developer. I spent most of 2011-2017 as a part-time student with the Open University to earn a second BA, this time in Business Studies.

I'm married to [personal profile] fanf, one of many friends I met via the wide network of Discworld fandom. We have two children, Charles & Nicholas.

I spent the second half of 2015 in successful treatment for acute leukaemia and am now fully recovered and officially discharged from follow-up care. I had a malignant melanoma turn up in the spring/summer of 2022, which has been entirely and successfully removed, but I have follow-up for another year.
