There’s a Nordic Composers’ Exhibition of graphic scores this afternoon at Steel House Copenhagen, rounded off with a concert by KIMI Ensemble this evening.

In the foreground, snow, in shadow, and the bottom end of a playground slide leading into the picture. In front of the building, in the sun, a lamppost, and bicycles, parked.
Another view from between the old factory buildings, now repurposed as modern office spaces. Thick snow on the ground, with a curving path carved though it. Outdoor benches tables still covered in snow. In the distance, against the brown of the bricks, a clear blue sky with white cotton-wool clouds.

A patch of blue sky – the afternoon sun is out, streaming onto the building on the left, and the tree across the road, whose tangled branches cast shadows onto the building behind it. A lone figure traverses the footpath in front of that building. Behind them the repeated vertical lines of a metal fence. In the foreground, on our side of the road, ice and snow on the asphalt.

An Indian street food trailer, painted purple with large yellow letters announcing CHAII CHASKA above it, parked on a snow-covered square. On the misted windows, above a little ledge on which one can place one’s purchases, various papers, printed and hand-written, spelling out the various menu options. Bottom left in the middle window, a neon sign tracing the letters “We are OPEN” – with “We are” in white and “OPEN” in bright purple. A red and silver trimming rounding off the bottom edge of the trailer.

A landscape in snow. In the foreground the gently rolling curves of a large field, bits of ground sticking up through the snow, a little like an Anselm Kiefer painting. In the background a hill covered with a forest of dark trees, snow on the ground visible through the trunks. A grey-white sky, mirroring the colour of the ground. As above, so below.

Standing across the street from the ‘Torvehallerne’ marketplace in the centre of Copenhagen on a cold winter’s day. Along the base of the picture yellow stripes mark the edge of the road. Directly on the other side, a large number of parked bicycles, and behind them, on the other side of the bicycle path (on which a lone cyclist makes their way), the market area itself. Covered tent areas for outdoor eating. Bare trees. And to each side the modern covered-glass-halls themselves. Not many people to be seen. In the distance to each side, city buildings from older centuries. And above it all, grey clouds, billowing.

Trees in a park, with snow still resting on their many branches and twigs – creating complex patterns, like intricate deltas reaching up against an early morning sky. In front of the trees, a hedge, its brown leaves topped off with a layer of snow, and in front of the hedge, a sidewalk and parked cars, also covered with snow.

Standing in a portal, looking across the grey brick floor of an inner-Copenhagen courtyard, early afternoon. At the other end of the courtyard the warm lights of the Sing Tea House beckon. Its two entrances below an awning, the wall at that level covered with square tiles. Under the awning a narrow terrace, in dark wood, and on it lighter chairs and tables. Above the awning a wall painted yellow, and in it a series of windows, each with a window box filled with plants. Through the large window of the shop one can make out an array of tea pots against the back wall, and through the door to the right, the packets of tea on sale.

A card with a black and white ink drawing by an artist I haven’t been able to trace (signed with what appears to be ‘Beltau 87’ below the drawing) against the background of Gutkind’s beautiful Danish publication of Sally Rooney’s “Intermezzo”. The drawing is of a hut at night, with an inverted V roof, somewhat similar to the photo I posted a few days ago. On the porch a young boy opens the door to a small elf. Light streams out into the dark, there are a few stars in the sky. Below the drawing the text: “Når den stjerne lys og blid sig lod se ved midnatstid” (When the star gentle and bright let itself be seen at midnight.)
