Mission statement

Between 2012 and 2014, cyclist deaths in Australia, as a percentage of total road deaths, rose 116%. In the Australian Capital Territory, the out-of-pocket costs of a bicycle accident increases by a whopping 118% depending on the route you take. According to Allianz Australia, the risk of serious injury while traveling on a bicycle is 27% nationwide. While cycling becomes more and more unsafe as each day passes, bicycle ridership has risen to a record-breaking 3.7 million riders nationwide-an average growth rate of 6% over the past 10 years.

While these statistics are scary, our motivations for creating this web application are closer to us – our developer was recently injured in a bicycle accident, and had to create this application from scratch in excruciating pain, with only his right hand. We used machine learning software and government data to create a data model that will optimize your bike route for safety-so that you, the user, will not be a part of the statistics we introduced earlier. In doing so, we seek to accomplish the following missions: first, to reduce the chances of cyclists getting into an accident, and second, to reduce the human, social and financial costs of an accident in the event of the unthinkable.
