Hi There! I'm Samantha!

I'm a galactic bounty hunter for hire! (Please hire me; I need better food.) This is my website. I hope you enjoy the things it has. :-)

To explore this site, start off with the navigation bar up top! We've got an About section, which has a brief bio and some mailbags. There's a Works section with some of my art and games. Then there's my favorite section, the Maps section, which has maps of over 30 games and counting! Beyond that are all the usual accoutrements of a website, such as Articles, Links, and a Forum.

Sometimes I do other things off this website, such as star in some silly ZZT games. It doesn't happen as often these days, but sometimes I even stream as a low-budget vtuber. There's such a huge universe out there, and I'm always glad I can be a part of it in whatever way I can!

Anyhow, with all of that said, I hope you enjoy all the beautiful sights this site has to offer! I worked very hard on it, and I hope it brightens up your day. :)

Updates

Stay tuned for the latest and greatest website updates in the galaxy!

It's not much, but I've made a few minor updates to my about page and character reference sheet.

The new About page puts the games in their own sub-section, finally adds last October's game, adds a note about the ambiguity of first-person pronouns on this site, and adds a couple "Frequently Asked" questions.

The character reference sheet incorporates a few minor updates to show how I tend to draw myself these days. The additions are, to wit:

  • An example of my hairclip.
  • The mole on my collarbone.
  • The fact that I tuck half of my shirt in.
  • A note about the color of my shirt.

All of these changes can be seen in the comic Average Difficulty from last August, though most of them pre-date that by a good amount of time.

None of this is particularly earth-shattering, but I've been meaning to add these tweaks to the reference sheet for a good amount of time.

Now if only I had a design for my Frog Suit that covered all angles and was to my liking...

I am home sick in terrible pain, but the pain is such that sitting up in my chair and moving my computer mouse is the least painful thing I can do. :)

Anyhow, this is all to say that I finished a map of Super Mega-Metroid X-2 that was 95% done a few months ago (all that it needed was some color correction and general polish). Specifically, this is a hack of the 2017 revision that adds save points, rather than the 2013 original. Either way, it's not what you'd expect from the title. Rather being substantially inspired by Mega Man X2, it's a one-hit-death kaizo-difficulty hack that just takes some tilesets from X2. Also, rather than any maverick-lookin-fellas, you fight bosses such as "the worst Spore Spawn you've ever seen," and "the worst worst Ridley you've ever seen," and "Draygon on LSD," and other such pleasant folk. Overall, the hack is on the absolute edge of "humanly possible."

(If you can't tell, I'm not particularly fond of this hack. I think I picked it out of spite, and because it's ludicrously wide.)

Unless you're a fervent practitioner of self-flagellation, my recommendation for consuming this hack is via GaRan's excellent TAS (that's what I did).

As always, the map's on the maps page.

PSA: If you're looking for a map of Super Junkoid DX, you can find one on drb's site. I meant to make one a few months ago, but life was busy. Maybe I'll ask him if I can edit his map to have all the visual snazziness of my map of the original Super Junkoid, but that depends on me having the time and motivation.

I got a few updates to the ZZT section today!

  1. I added a link to Lazanya, which I just made for a recent 2.4 Hours of ZZT jam. It's a vague parody of the classic Ezanya.
  2. I added a link to Caves of ZZT Remix under the new "Collabs" subheading. I'm responsible for nearly a 6th of the world's content, so you had better enjoy it! >:)
  3. sweet dreams is now the first game to have a dedicated explanatory page, although there is no indication of such on the main ZZT page. The motivation for making it was actually a couple pieces of fanart I got for it. :3

Sorry for the slow pace of updates! If you wanna stay in touch more often, you can always join the forums if you haven't.

Happy New Year!!

As a present, y'all get a two-for-one special! TWO MAILBAGS!

The first one is a bunch of leftover questions from before the Fall of Cohost. Apparently I just forgot about a bunch of them, and a couple others I just overlooked because I failed to tag the posts properly. Fortunately, I downloaded my data-dump when I could, so I was able to easily search the JSON files for the relevant posts. Now go enjoy some 15+ month old Asks!

The second one is just a round-up of some birthday questions and cards folks recently made because they are so nice and kind. I don't know what I do to deserve it, but I'm glad regardless. Smiling face

It's the end of an odd-numbered year, which apparently means it's time for me to take my past two years of ZZT art and creations and bundle them up into a "zine-like" format for public consumption.

Apparently I haven't posted about them here before, or at least they weren't on the ZZT page until just now. This has been rectified.

The three zines I've made are as follows:

In addition to those zines, I have one last piece of artwork for the year. It's a portrait of forum regular and friend of the show Cera Sizzle! This picture is also on the art page and that third zine up there.

Cera Sizzle

She based her lovely PNGTuber portrait off a character from an obscure PC-98 shmup. I think it looks quite nice myself. :)

It's that time of year again -- the most wonderful time of the year!

As is becoming tradition at this point, I have another Christmas card full of holiday cheer, this time featuring everybody's favorite catgirl from the Samantha-verse, Felicity Clawson!

Meowy Christmas 2025

You can also see her on the art page!

Minor update: I was talking with Snorb the other day, and he mentioned that he wished that he had told me to draw his character's Mariko's hair like Rydia (from FF4 DS), rather than like Sailor Neptune. Not being one to disappoint a friend, I redrew her hair (don't worry the original pic is still available).

As always, it's on the art page.

Despite being busy with Real Life things, I somehow found the time to play through a game I've never played before, and then write a review for it. The game in question is, of course, the Mega Man for the Game Gear, which is a perennially topical game that people are always talking about. Apologies if that game is too popular for your tastes, but you'll just have to live with it.

Readers who make it all the way to the end of the review will be blessed with an original piece of pixelwork.

Recent life events have transpired that may decrease the frequency of updates on this site for the foreseeable future. I personally am not too bothered by this, but I figure that those in the audience ought to be aware.

In other news, I have a new addition to the ZZT page! It's a little game called Samantha's Sister Wants a Bottle of Milk Right this Second. It's my submission to Oktrollberfest 2025, though it's very light in terms of scope. I had bigger plans, but I lost focus on them while I still had the time to put work into them. I tried making slightly smaller plans the other day, but this Plan B immediately blew up into a proper sequel in terms of scope. Thus, we have this Plan C, which I made from scratch in about a day and a half.

As for the game itself, it's effectively a prequel to Samantha Arantes Goes to the Fridge to Get a Glass of Milk, but it also elaborates on some characters and lore introduce in last year's Awful Dates Done Quick. People seem to like it, but I kinda wish I could have done just slightly more with the concept.

Anyhow, one of the boards is 21 kilobytes (above the standard limit if 20 kB), but I was testing with the modern fork "ClassicZoo" which increases that limit, so I think I accidentally trolled myself into not making a ZZT game. C'est la vie...

On occasion, current events cause my brain to rapidly produce dangerous amounts of "brain garbage" autonomously.

The recent AUTISM ANNOUNCEMENT from our so-called health minister falls into this category of event.

You can read the conversation my brain produced here, in the comics sub-section.

Thanks to foone for the Death Generator, which made this all possible.

In February of this year my friend neen released a hack simply called kaleidoscope. I had meant to map it earlier this year, but I put it off because I knew that neen had a version 1.1 update that he wanted to make.

Flash forward five or so months later, after X-Fusion came out, and I looked into the possibility of mapping that Mother of All Hacks. After some failed attempts at trying to open the hack in SMILE, and not feeling like it was yet time to pester Metaquarius for metaphorical keys to the hack, I turned my sights back to kaleidoscope. As it turns out, me deciding to map kaleidoscope after a few months was enough to push neen into publishing v1.1 (which had effectively been done for months). As for X-Fusion, I might collaborate with Ambureon in the future, but I hear another update is in the works right now...

As always, the new map is on the maps page. Disfruit it!

Since I have finally caught up with my backlog of self-authored the funny (?) images to upload, I can post the comic I meant to post two days ago. It was the result of an intrusive thought that came to me after reading too much debating regarding X-Fusion's difficulty. (Fair warning: I just stole a joke from xkcd (plz don't sue me Randall).)

You can view the comic here.

Thank you for your patience.

Just going through my comics backlog again. I promise I'll catch up soon!

Today's batch includes:

  1. A redraw of a shot from Star Trek 4
  2. A bit of pareidolia
  3. A rubric for determining your gamer cred
  4. A scathing criticism of some modern game's
  5. A depiction of melancholic longing
  6. A totally legit timeline of the Metroid series

The comic that I actually wanted to post yester's day will come Very Soon.

It's been a hot minute since the last update here (though probably not the longest in the site's history).

The reason I'm making this post right now is because I made another comic today!!

However, you won't be reading that new comic today, because I have a backlog of junk to get through. To wit:

  1. The worst kiss I have ever drawn (bad enough for me to put off posting it for several months)
  2. A scene from my time in MetConst High School
  3. Items from a ZZT game I made
  4. A very convincing Switch 3 logo

Feel free to browse the comics section. You might get a good laugh-and-a-half out of it!
