Ellikae Sugarfoot’s Diary 9 “The one that got away” – A D&D Campaign Report

18 March, 2026

The brigands, surprisingly disciplinedContinuing the diary of Ellikae “Kae” Sugarfoot, soon to be a famous hero and musician (she hopes), with annotations by her younger twin sister, Pippiana (known as Pippa).  [This will serve as my repository for campaign notes and observations and will be, of necessity, incomplete as it is restricted to what the characters know.  I may add clarifying information as needed and feel free to ask questions.]

—–

[Picking up direct from last game with panting gnolls and captured bugbears.] Pippa encouraged Hellor to rally the gnolls and lead them on an offensive against the bandits. Unfortunately, his rousing speech does not inspire them as much as we had hoped.

Probably the difficulty of inspiring anyone with the goblic language.

Tuesday Magic Item – Staff of Venomous Serpent Dispatching

17 March, 2026

It will have to do.The man carried on with his story about how the venom of the snake not only poisoned bodies but spirits as well, twisting those exposed to the toxins in ways both visible and invisible.

Gollaon and Voddick watched and listened.

He gives an outlandish theory credibility by his commitment,” said Voddick.

“Hopefully, it will not lead his followers into trouble,” said Gollaon. “While I suspect he has protection from the venom of snakes, I fear those who follow him will not.”

Staff of Venomous Serpent Dispatching

The origin of this staff, or perhaps staves, is unknown, but probably it was made by a religious sect involved in a conflict with another religious sect. It is a fine staff intricately carved with natural enemies of snakes, such as hawks and mongooses.

Sparrow, Ork Adept and Clubber (Shadowrun Character, Revised)

14 March, 2026

The katar is where its at.So, as WordPress has decided to destroy the formatting on the original post for Sparrow (as you can see here) and as she has shown up as supporting cast in a few games, I thought it was time to revisit her wruteup.

While Sparrow was a character I had in the background of my Shadowrun campaign and in the back of my mind. Then she was fully fleshed out, with a background short story, for RPGGeek‘s 2024 Character Creation Challenge (she is on page 13) and it spiraled from there.

Sparrow, Ork Adept and Clubber

Quote: Did you know that knives with sapphire blades and plaztik fittings are nearly invisible to weapon scanners?

Come on! Cheka is playing the Rat Trap! We can’t miss that!

Tuesday Magic Item – Point of the Spear

10 March, 2026

Defend the polis!Gollaon and Voddick watched the ranks of warriors march by in their polished cuirasses, showing idealized forms. In perfectly dressed rank, they assembled before the archon to recieve the city’s blessing and for the lead warrior of each formation to be presented with a spear made just for them. A symbol of leadership and courage.

“I do not envy those warriors, to be the ‘point of the spear’ in the coming battle will be a place of honor and of even greater danger,” whispered  Voddick.

Gollaon nodded. “They know it too.”

Point of the Spear

Made for the City-States, these spears are designed to channel civic pride and love of their city to their leadership on the battlefield. The spears are decorated to honor their city-state, but subtly, for they are weapons of war first and foremost. Their full powers can only be accessed when the weapon is given to the wielder by the state or it representative and only in battle.

To March out of February

28 February, 2026

Mars, ready for battleThe name of March is drawn from the Roman month Martius which in turn gains its name from Mars, as you would expect.  Mars is the Roman god of war (and more a soldier’s god than a warrior as contrasted with his Greek counterpart Ares).  The theme for this march will be Soldiers and Warfare.  As usual, if there is anything in particular you would like to see, please let me know.  I will try to do something, spell or item, for the Equinox as well, because it is such a neat event.

Unfortunately, for a variety of personal reasons that I will not burden you with, February 2026, was a slow month with only the following posts in the journal:

Tuesday Magic Item – Healing Honey of the Harried Hive

24 February, 2026

Honey for all your illsGollaon watched as the healer carefully applied honey and then bandages to the worst wounds but only cleaned and bandaged the minor wounds.

Voddick was carefully cleaning his weapons. “A good standard of care.”

“Is the honey in such limited supply that it must be husbanded so?” Gollaon asked the healer.

“It is something that is a potent curative but its magic can come with unfortunate . . . changes if it is overused,” said the healer.  They smiled. “It is also in limited supply.”

Healing Honey of the Harried Hive

This magical, dark amber colored honey is usually found in a glazed jar marked with warnings to use in moderation. The honey is thick and easy to apply to wounds where it has a remarkable healing effect.

Tuesday Magic Item – Shell of Drowned Echoes

18 February, 2026

What do you hear?Gollaon and Voddick watched as the noble listed to whispers from the black and white shell.

“I do not approve of this methoid of treasure hunting,” said Voddick quietly.

“Nor I, but we took the job, so we will have to live with it,” replied Gollaon, equally quietly.

“Truth,” said Voddick. “But we most be careful, such magics tend to carry dangers to one’s very soul.”

Shell of Drowned Echoes

The dead do not always lie easily in the sea, these shells provide a way to communicate with the drowned but it is not without risk. Holding this shell to your ear you might mistake the whispered voices for the susurrus of the sea. The voices speak in numerous languages, some living, some dead. Once they know someone is listening, the voices that can be understood by the listener will soon come to predominate. They petition the listener for aid, pleading for help. The listener can ask questions of the drownded dead. but by doing so, risks letting them reach into your soul as well.

Tuesday Magic Item – Moon’s Mask

3 February, 2026

What is hidden?Gollaon and Voddickmoved through the well and exotically dressed crowd. Their concession to the masquerade were simple domino masks. “I like such dress-up not at all,” said Voddick. “It makes our job much harder.”

Gollaon nodded as their eyes darted around. “Truth. But at least we are being paid extra for tonight’s work.”

Voddick smiled slightly at that. “That is so, a small benefit for suffering through all this nonsense.”

Gollaon stiffened, their hand dropping to their sword hilt. “Left and forward, the trio in white masks.”

“Moon Sect,” hissed Voddick. “You get to the side of our charge, and I will keep between you and them.”

“Yes.”

Moon’s Mask

These masks were once seen as harmless frivolities but with the Moon Sect becoming proscribed, they have achieved a sinister reputation. They are usually plain porcelain but sometimes they are decorated with the phase of the moon or other Moon Sect iconography.

February Shadowrun Campaign News, more Fiction and a new Seattle Scream (#115)

1 February, 2026

I [Heart] You, ShadowrunnerLet us get this party started! Get your copy of I [Heart] You, Shadowrunner, an official piece of Shadowrun fiction up at the Catalys Game Labs site (free until the end of February). It is vaguely romance-themed to go with Valentine’s Day. Also, I must say, I am not thrilled with that cover (which I had nothing to do with), Tawni is covered in biosculpted tiger’s fur and that is not her in that image.

January was slow for Shadowrun with only one live and one online game, both of which I was the CH for, but perhaps the best that can be expected as we start a new year.

Later this week (seventh February) is our monthly learn-to-play game at Tyche’s Games!  We usually play every first Saturday and if you are in the area come and join in! New players are very welcome. If you come for a few games, you can join in on the campaign play too.

We have the February issue of the Seattle Scream (#115) with all the latest news. Romance is in the air and the Stress are doing well, what more could a Seattleite ask for?

In other good news, the Shadowrun fiction anthology Sixth World Snapshots has released and my first published piece of Shadowrun fiction is in it! Go take a look if that sort of thing interests you.

Shadowrun Sundays are as they happen for the foreseeable future due to other commitments. But still managed one place and one Shadowrun adjacent post over the month:

The Chess Club, one of the hottest places to be seen in Downtown right now.

Dark Future Ahead 49, musing about future tech and cultural developments.
