It is an honour to serve as President of the Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS) for a second term, as we celebrate three decades of shaping Singapore’s interior design industry. From a membership of just 108 in 2018, SIDS has grown to nearly 2,000 members, including professionals, associates, students, and industry players, many accredited through the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme (SIDAS).
SIDAS has been instrumental in establishing rigorous standards of professionalism and credibility. As we look to the next decade, SIDS is committed to becoming a cornerstone of quality for consumers. Two key initiatives will guide us: strengthening partnerships with regulatory bodies to promote accreditation and launching education efforts to help consumers recognise the value of engaging accredited professionals.
In 2025, we will launch a campaign to raise awareness of SIDAS accreditation among project owners, especially new homeowners, as demand for interior design services surges with the release of nearly 44,100 new HDB flats. This effort will emphasise the importance of hiring professionals committed to safety, ethics, and design excellence.
Addressing industry challenges, such as safety concerns and AI’s disruptive potential, remains critical. SIDS is focused on developing AI governance to integrate this technology responsibly, ensuring it complements human creativity while upholding core design values.
I thank our partners, including government bodies, sponsors, and stakeholders, for their unwavering support. Together, we can drive positive change and strengthen Singapore’s position as a leader in interior design.
