Deceptive Religious Books and New Age and Paranormal Topics. A word on deceptive religious books. In looking at various publications and online sources of paranormal topics, I found some that weren’t what they seemed at first.

Deceptive Religious Books A Religious Response

Some people who follow a fundamentalist religious belief, in other words, a belief that has certain fundamental elements as its basis seem to have found these near-death experiences threatening to their religious belief.

So, they have written books or gone on TV and said that they have had a near-death experience and it just so happened that they found that when they “died” they found that the afterlife was exactly as their holy book said it was.

The trouble with this is that these books weren’t written until the original ones had already come out.

Now, really. If you had proof like that that your religion was the truth after all, wouldn’t you have put it out for all to see immediately? I would.

But, nope, these things all came out quite a while after the original studies and after people began to become very interested in them.

And those original experiences and the others that are being compiled by people in the medical community or by those who have experienced them are all very similar, regardless of the religion of the person having them and they don’t conform to this religion at all. Almost disproves it.

False Advertising

These religious authors make it look as if they are believers in whatever paranormal experience they write about but as you read it you find that they claim the paranormal belief is evil and tout their religion as being the answer to everything.

If they had put a caveat to the effect that this is their religious belief’s view of these things in the title or prominently on the cover that would have been one thing, but they don’t and make it seem as if the book is like the others that originally came out.

It’s intended to trick you into hearing about their religion when you are looking for a paranormal topic by someone who is really interested in it.

So don’t be fooled. Once you start hearing about their religious take on these topics, take note of the publisher, production company, or whoever is in charge of its creation.

Look them up on the internet and see what other authors or imprints they have and other associations and then you’ll know what to look out for and stay away from.

If you can find out the denomination or name of an organization, that will help you keep clear of those as well, especially if someone approaches you.

One good thing. If they’re pretending to be something they’re not in this area, they’re deceptive in others and you’ll know to stay away from that version of religion, even if someone from it approaches you, no matter how nice they may seem.

I was a member of one of these groups for 18 years, and it’s the one that’s so political now.

Its sole purpose is control and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.

Actually, going back to the paranormal and new-age teachings was very healing for me. So, be careful and know your sources of information.

Deceptive Religious Books Final Words

Deceptive Religious Books on the Paranormal

Some books about religion or the paranormal books can be tricky, even misleading. They may claim to offer firsthand accounts or hard truths, but some are just storytelling dressed up as “proof.” A few authors, particularly those with rigid religious views, push their interpretations solo.

They might share supposed near-death experiences conveniently aligned with their holy texts as if the afterlife runs by their rulebook. This isn’t to dismiss people’s beliefs, but these writings often feel more like propaganda than genuine insight. Readers need to approach such works with care.

Not all paranormal books wrapped in faith or paranormal intrigue tells the whole story, and questioning their motives or accuracy is smart. Keep your critical thinking sharp—don’t get tricked by clever packaging or emotional appeals.

Psychometry. What is it? Psychometry is the practice of holding an object in your hands and picking up the energetic signatures on it.

It’s supposed to be the easiest of the various psychic abilities. Its the one that’s recommended to start with if you want to learn to develop your own intuitive powers.

What is Psychometry?

A breakdown of the word can give us a clue to its meaning.

“Psycho” means soul or spirit and “metron” means measure, so it’s the measure of the soul.

It’s therefore thought that you can learn something about a particular soul or person by the residue of it left on an object. A small measure of its energy.

Another word for it is clairtangency which means “clear touching”.

Joseph Buchanan and Psychometry

Joseph Rodes Buchanan first used the word in 1842.

He was the first person who thought that objects gave off parts of the vibrations of those who’d handled them and that those vibrations could be read.

As an experiment, he gave vials containing various drugs to his students to see if they could determine the type of drug in each.

They gave the right answer more often than if they’d just been guessing or by chance and Buchanan wrote about it in his book “Journal of Man”.

William Denton’s Psychometric Experiments

A geologist named William Denton, became curious about the phenomenon of reading objects and decided to do his own experiment.

he had his sister help him explore this possible ability in 1854.

She held geologic specimens that were wrapped in cloth to her forehead to see if she could tell what they were without looking at them.

She was, apparently quite accurate. And, in the way of these experimenters, he wrote it up in a book called “The Soul of Things”.

Of course, there was the requisite skeptic, Joseph Jastrow who thought they were delusional and just relying on wishful thinking.

I’m beginning to think if a skeptic doesn’t denounce you, you aren’t doing it right.

Hypnosis to Aid in Reading Objects

In the early 1920s, a German psychical researcher named Gustav Pagenstecher, conducted some experiments with a woman named Maria Reyes de Zierold.

She originally had been treated by him using hypnosis for insomnia.

Somehow, don’t ask me how, during this treatment, it was discovered that she could read energy off of objects while in a hypnotic state.

Really, I would love to know how a jump from insomnia to reading objects could accidentally happen.

But there doesn’t appear to be any record of the sequence of events that lead to this.

So, going on, she could, reportedly, tell things about an object’s past, leading Pagenstecher to theorize that she was tuning into the vibrations of the object.

I found no record of a skeptic denouncing this, so the information may not have been as accurate as they say.

What is Psychometry Good For Anyway?

I mean, why would you want to “read” energy off of an item, anyway? What would be the use?

Well, several people have found a use for it.

One of the early uses was as entertainment.

Just like a traveling magician, people would put on shows reading information off of items probably brought up by the audience.

In this way, they would tell the owner something about him or herself.

Enough correct information and the public would be fascinated. These shows would be performed on stage or at psychic fairs.

The Russian performer, Stephan Ossowieki, had people write notes by hand on paper and put them in a sealed envelope.

He wouldn’t accept anything typewritten.

Presumably, because the act of writing by hand would leave the person’s energetic imprint on the paper, and typing wouldn’t.

He claimed to be able to know what was written on the papers without looking at them, just holding the envelopes that contained them.

A later claim was that a psychometric reading could help someone communicate with the dead.

I’m not sure how that would be accomplished, since the energy was put on the item while the person was alive.

Some people also claim to not only read what was going on with the person at the time they used the item but their past and future as well.

So, maybe the reader could read their future as spirit?

Or, more likely, handling something the deceased was fond of would help them link to the spirit easier.

To be honest, until I read this doing research, it was the first I’d heard of it.

Using Psychometry to Find Things and People

The Dutch university, Riksuniversiteit te Utrecht did some experiments. I couldn’t find a date for this.

He used this method of psychometric reading to find lost objects and people and to help in solving crimes.

Since practitioners claim that they are able to use the objects to tune into the energy of the person, they would probably get a picture of where they would be or of the crime as it occurred.

I’ve not heard of the use of one object to find another.

There was no description of how this was done.

I can’t even imagine unless it was to link the energy left on the held item to the same energy of that person left on the item sought. Could happen, I guess.

Since then, there have been some police departments that used a psychometrist to help them solve crimes, although many of them deny it when asked.

A woman named Noreen Renier used a toothbrush and the shoes of a person who was missing and told the police where to find the body.

But, they couldn’t use the information she provided in court.

Because a person giving the information could be making it up, whatever is said must be verified before it can be accepted as true.

If it’s unable to be verified, then it’s just something interesting to hear.

She actually has a website, if you want to know more about her. You can find it here

Do I Really Want That Item?

The difficulty in verifying this information is one reason, probably the main, reason why psychometric information can’t be used in court.

On a more everyday note, you can use psychometry before you make a purchase of a used item, obviously in person and not online or mail order.

You can get impressions of an item and if it feels uncomfortable to you, you may want to skip the purchase.

No matter how nice it looks or how much you like it otherwise.

Another discipline, feng shui, talks about the energy on items and how that can affect your living space.

So, the two can presumably be used together to make a harmonious living environment.

Does Science Support Psychometry?

I looked up some possible scientific support for psychometry but found very little.

I also didn’t see any real experiments having been done to test the ability.

It crossed my mind that if there was energy left on an item it might be able to be measured by instruments of some kind.

The first I looked into was Kirlian photography. It’s not really photography.

It records a color onto a plate directly using an electrical charge.

The charge hits the object and an image is laid onto the plate, usually showing a light surrounding the object.

A person can put their fingers into a metal clip that is attached to the camera.

When the charge hits, it will show the light around the person and be captured on the plate.

These colors are different depending on the inner workings of a person’s mind or emotions, according to some parapsychologists.

I wondered if Kirlian photography could pick up the residual energy left on objects, but the technique would seem to preclude that.

The other option seemed to be thermal imaging.

A camera set up to use infrared can detect heat signatures that are normally invisible to the naked eye.

Now, this technology can pick up residual heat signatures off of an item.

If someone turns a doorknob and you focus the thermal imager on that doorknob after the person lets go, you will see a thermal imprint of the hand on the nob.

It doesn’t last long and fades over a short time as the heat cools. But it does show that something remains behind if only for a short while after a person has held something.

This was the closest I could find to something that might prove the validity of psychometry.

Scientific Theories Pertaining to Psychometry

If something is left behind, it’s possible that someone could feel it.

If you’ve ever walked into a room where a fight has been and felt uncomfortable even if you didn’t know about the fight, then you know that energy can remain behind from someone and be picked up.

People have felt peace in areas where people have come to meditate or focus on peace such as Buddhist monasteries.

And felt disturbed in areas where there’s been violence or where discord has occurred.

The old phrase, “You could cut the tension with a knife” implies something physical even if you can’t see it.

I would have liked to find some definitive proof that energy remains on an object and may be able to be picked up but was unable to.

These two devices may eventually help to get some of that proof. Who knows?

In my research, I found a book recommended. Although I haven’t had a chance to find it and read it yet, I have read other books on quantum physics and paranormal events. This one looks very good, so it’s on my (growing) list of books to read.

It’s called The Holographic Universe” by Michael Talbot and explores the work of physicist David Bohm and neurophysiologist Karl Pribram about the possibility that everything we know is just a construct of our own, I presume, collective minds.

Both Bohm and Pribram are well respected in their fields.

It covers several paranormal types of phenomena, although I didn’t see psychometry listed, and connects them with these physics theories.

So, if you have a scientific bent, I’ll pass this recommendation on to you.

How Do You Do Psychometry?

It’s not difficult to do psychometric readings.

You just have to hold an object in your hand, I would try your non-dominant or receptive hand, and wait to see what images or impressions come to mind.

It’s better to do this in a relatively quiet atmosphere to keep distractions down.

Try not to censor or dismiss impressions but just take note of them.

If you’re doing this with someone, then speak them aloud as they come up.

If the item belongs to them or someone they know well, what you come up with may make more sense to them than to you.

It’s generally thought that items that are harder, like metal, hold energy and are more easily read than items that are soft, such as clothing.

Also, it should have been used frequently by the person or worn close to the body like the keys they use or often worn jewelry.

Psychometric Get Togethers

A group I visited once, did psychometric readings once in a while.

People would come and put objects in a bag that was passed around the group.

We’d reach in and take something out and now everyone had something that belonged to another group member.

We’d go around and have each person tell what they thought they were receiving off of the object.

The owner would verify the information or say if it wasn’t quite accurate. Whether you had a “hit” or not.

I pulled out an item, I can’t quite remember exactly what it was now, but when it was my turn to speak, I just kept seeing flowers in a garden setting.

The garden was well-kept and peaceful and a love of nature seemed to be the main feeling I got.

It turned out that the owner was a woman who was an avid gardener and had a beautiful, landscaped flower garden that was her joy.

So maybe I did pick up something from the item.

I don’t know if psychometry is real or not, but it is kind of fun to try.

It can’t hurt to give it a whirl and see what you get.

Maybe try a group event to exchange belongings and see what comes up, such as the one I went to.

If nothing else, it will give you a start on developing or exploring psychic abilities.

What is Telepathy?

Telepathy Mind to Mind Contact Skull Gal Pin

Telepathy, as mentioned above, is the ability to know what someone is thinking.

Some say that this includes the ability to know or feel how someone is feeling, but I think that may be closer to empathy.

According to Wikipedia Telepathy “is the purported vicarious transmission of information from one person to another without using any known human sensory channels or physical interaction“.

A person who is empathic feels someone’s feelings as if they are their own and a telepath can pick up people’s thoughts.

It’s possible to be able to do one and not the other.

The word telepathy is made up of the words “tele” meaning “distant” and “pathos” meaning “feeling or perception”.

You’re basically able to hear what someone is thinking without being able to hear them speak or reading words written out.

The term was first used by Frederick W. H. Meyers who was one of the founders of the Society for Psychical Research in 1882.

What Science Says About Mental Telepathy

I found a lot of information online about the scientific studies done. I’m not going to go over them too much here. Suffice it to say, they were unable to prove it.

Some people who claimed to be able to pick the location of an object from someone’s mind or solve crimes had to hold the person’s hand to do it.

Researchers then thought that they were picking up movement that somehow told them what they wanted to know.

Perhaps they thought that the person’s hand moved ever so slightly in the direction of the hidden object or something.

They said it certainly wasn’t mind reading. The people performing the feats didn’t claim to be psychic anyway.

Most of the people who did claim to be psychic were shown to be faking it.

Later tests used numbers and Zener cards, a set of cards with symbols=a circle, square, star, wiggly lines, and cross.

Most couldn’t get these. Some were able to pick up the number or symbol another person was looking at across from them or in another room, but researchers felt that they were actually reading facial and body movements or hearing something that gave clues to the right answer.

When put further apart, the percentage of right answers fell well below chance.

Circumstances for Telepathy

Another criticism was that, in many cases, the people knew each other too well and could guess what the other person was thinking.

So if an experiment used people who knew one another, the testers threw out any results as unusable.

Usually, when a spontaneous case of telepathic communication happens, it does happen with people who know one another. In fact, almost always.

So, I feel that the researchers weren’t trying to replicate the conditions in which it happens naturally, but set up test parameters that used circumstances that were never part of the original phenomenon.

People never picked up numbers or symbols in regular life.

They picked up other things and most of them were more relevant to their lives.

The Role Of Emotion

There was often is an emotional element to telepathy.

They were missing a person or thinking of them, or the someone was hurt and another knew it and went to help, that kind of thing.

And that can’t always be explained away by them knowing each other well enough to know what they’d think.

How would they know that a person was in trouble and needed them, for instance?

A mother hearing her child’s voice call “Mom” while she was out and feel it was important to get home to check on him, to find that a heavy piece of furniture had fallen on them certainly didn’t know that was what their child would have thought at that moment.

Any researcher that would dismiss this as just “Well, she knew Johnny well enough to know that he’d be thinking of a piece of furniture on Tuesday at 4”, would be totally remiss to his profession.

In fact, though, they just don’t consider these cases at all, as if they never occurred.

So, just because science doesn’t prove telepathy, doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

It may just be that the parameters weren’t correct, or there was a bias against it. Scientists are human, too.

A Theory on Brain Science

I recently read about how the brain works.

Something about how our brains transmit thoughts and impulses throughout the brain itself and into the rest of our body made me stop and think about what that might mean for the reality of mind-to-mind communication.

I haven’t seen any studies that linked the two, so maybe it could be a factor. Who knows? Let me bring you in on my thinking and see what you think.

If I understand this correctly, our brain contains neurons, little oblong neural devices, for want of a better word. Our thoughts and impulses are sent throughout our brains and bodies using chemical transmitters.

These neurons aren’t physically connected but are separated by a small space.

They are lined up with each other and one end acts as a transmitter that sends energy in the form of ions across the gap to the receptor on the end of the next neuron and so on down the line. These ends are called synapses.

An ion is a molecule with a net electrical charge and from that, again if I understand correctly, it has at least one extra positive or negative charge to make it either positive or negative rather than having an equal number of both which would make it neutral.

Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry that explains it, as my high school history teacher used to say, more better.

A man called Seeker made a video that shows how those ions jump that gap and travel around your brain.

Transmitters and Gaps

Now, it’s that whole idea of transmitters and gaps that got me thinking about how this could cause us to pick up someone else’s thoughts.

I used to work in radio, and we worked with transmitters and receivers all the time.

That’s how radio and TV work, or the broadcast kind anyway. A transmitter sends a signal to a receiver across space.

If the receiver is tuned to the frequency of the transmitter, it will receive the signal and you hear your favorite DJ speaking to you from your radio.

Further, there’s the idea of there being no space or time, (for another spin on that, check out our article on Time Slips and the concept that two atoms, if once connected will stay in tune with each other.

So, I put these ideas together and came up with this.

If our brains can transmit and receive and we all have that capability and signals can be sent across a gap, then what’s to prevent a signal from being transmitted across a larger gap, no space and time remember, to a receptor in someone else?

You hear someone else’s thought in their voice, since we think in our own voice, in your head, however briefly.

And if atoms that have been connected somehow continue to be connected via quantum entanglement, then people you’ve felt close feelings for, another form of energy, that may have connected you energetically, would then be able to exchange telepathic messages.

It would explain how a parent would sense a child was in danger when away from them, I think.

That could be why it only seems to happen to people who know each other and why there is usually an emotional component.

Emotion carries energy and you’re connected to the person.

This could also be why strangers or even people who do know one another don’t do well transmitting numbers or symbols.

There’s no connection and where’s the emotional attachment to the number 1?

The ball’s in your court scientists. Get on this.

Past Life Connections

Another teaching I’ve come across is the idea that those who have lived several lifetimes together will pick up each other’s thoughts and sometimes emotions and physical sensations. I think that might be true.

There have been people that I have felt a connection with from the beginning. One friend knows what I’m not telling him.

I can’t keep a secret from him in any way, shape, or form. He knows. Sometimes I hear his voice when I’m half asleep at night, similar to how you hear your name called sometimes.

It’s usually a snippet of something, not a full sentence.

Basically, it seems to be what he’s thinking at the time at home or wherever he is.

We decided to test this theory a little bit and we did a telepathy experiment.

He’d hold something in his hand while we were on the phone and I had to tell him what he was holding.

I’d just get little things like its shape, size, or color.

Some of them I got right. Small, oblong, and grey was a little rock, for instance.

Can’t remember how many were right and how many were wrong, but it seemed to be quite a few hits.

He would tell me if I was warm or cold which may have invalidated some of it and there was no emotional attachment to a rock. But, still, it was interesting.

He also drew a picture and asked me to tell him what he drew.

I picked up a large swath of green at the bottom, some yellow at the top, a little brown at the side, and some red above it, but not what it actually was.

There was also a number involved.

I think I either said 3 or 10, don’t remember now.

He gave me the drawing and it was of a tree with 13 apples on green grass with a sun in the corner.

I tried to find the picture to put here but I can’t find it. We did this about 7 years ago.

Not sure if this is a case of deliberate telepathy, but interesting results anyway

Shared Crisis Connections

Then there was a lead person I had at a clerical job.

I felt a strong connection to her and had a dream later that we were sisters in 17th century Germany. We had a lot of stress and emotional charges on this job as the supervisor, manager, and rest of our unit were all part of a fundamentalist religious group.

I’d been part of this religious group several years before and recognized it immediately, but couldn’t find another job before I was let go for not reconverting.

Because this was the political version of Christianity, they got away with it, but the lead person was moved to another unit against her wishes.

Her family had a lot of political pull locally so they couldn’t fire her.

In the dream, we’d been killed for not converting to this religion and it turned out there was a big religious war in the area at the time and the Inquisition had been the worst there with more people killed than in the more well-known countries for being in the inquisition. So we were repeating history in a way.

All of this heightened the psychic connections and phenomena between us.

We’d know when the other was sick, I could often feel her symptoms.

One day I called her just as she was about to go to the hospital and described her symptoms to her.

She confirmed that those were her symptoms and interestingly enough, wasn’t surprised that I told her and not the other way around.

I recognized them as anxiety and intense grief, these girls had been her friends before they converted, and so I told her that she was reacting to what they were doing. I’d felt it before.

She still went to the hospital and that’s what they told her.

But, for some reason, when I felt those feelings, I knew they were hers.

I’m empathic, too, I think, which means I can pick up others’ emotions and physical sensations sometimes, but from a distance must have been telepathic.

So, a past-life connection might mean a telepathic connection, too.

A Telepathic Story

Remember we mentioned knowing when a loved one was hurt or in danger? Well, our site owner, Leo Garcia, had such an experience and told me about it.

He went fishing with his daughter and a couple of her friends.

While he set up their spot, the girls went off to explore.

A while later, Leo had an overwhelming feeling that his daughter was hurt and needed him.

So, he left camp and went in search of her. He found them far enough away that he couldn’t have heard anything.

His daughter had twisted her ankle and was crying and the other girls didn’t know what to do.

He got her back to their vehicle, packed up everything, and got her to the doctor. But, who knows how long it would have been before one of the girls had thought to come get him.

How did he know? Maybe he felt her fear and responded. Who knows, but it shows there is a bond that transcends space and time when it’s someone you love.

So, Is Telepathy Real?

From a scientific standpoint, at least from their experiments so far, it isn’t. But, from an experiential standpoint, I’d say that there is definitely something to it.

For further information, you might want to check out these telepathy books I found on Amazon, one even says it will show you how to do telepathy or how to send a telepathic message.

I haven’t read them yet but the one on quantum theory looks like it might support what I was thinking about brain science. So that’s one for my reading list.

Astral projection and out-of-body experiences are topics that have been fascinating people for centuries.

With more people being revived after clinical death, there are more stories and many of them are similar in content.

OBE’s Astral Projection Similar

We’ll look at OBE’s or Out of Body experiences and Astral Projection together as they are similar in type.

Many sources make a distinction between them based on volition, whether it happens voluntarily or involuntarily.

Although OBE’s are typically leaving the body because of trauma or dying for a short time before being revived, astral projection is often considered to be something that is accomplished by means of using certain techniques.

I believe that astral projection can occur spontaneously as well.

After all, how could we have known it was possible to try if it hadn’t happened to someone once.

A Little History on OBE’s and Astral Projection

Cultures throughout history have had stories about people leaving their bodies. Most of those stories have been in their spiritual teachings.

Egypt talked about their Ba, depicted as a bird, floating or hovering over their bodies.

Presumably, this was after they had actually died. There must have been some type of experience for them to think along these lines in the first place.

In several eastern traditions, such as Taoism and Hinduism, there are stories of practitioners leaving their bodies and visiting other people or even performing miracles.

These are similar in some ways to things some people claim have happened to them, except with more of a spiritual bent.

Other older aboriginal cultures talked of leaving their bodies to go on quests or to gain information or answers to questions.

Whatever the truth of some of these, people have been talking about astral traveling for centuries.

What is an OBE?

An out-of-body experience happens when a person has a traumatic experience.

They suffer extreme injury or actually die for a short time.

For many, the scenario follows pretty much the same pattern.

The person sees a light or a tunnel and they may feel compelled to travel down it.

Some see a pretty green field or other nature scenes at the end of it.

Very often there are family members or friends who have passed on to meet them or spiritual beings that feel benevolent offering advice.

The majority are told to return to their lives.

A few others don’t see this at all and instead find themselves hovering over their bodies and looking down at whatever is happening, a resuscitation for the most part.

All of this is considered to happen without the person’s conscious volition.

What is Astral Projection?

Astral projection, on the other hand, is thought to happen voluntarily. You make it happen.

It’s thought that there is an astral body connected to our physical body. It houses our soul or spirit.

I believe these two are pretty much the same.

The astral is considered to be a plane very close to our physical plane where spirits, angels, and other entities reside.

This is the realm where our astral body goes when it’s projected.

There are several methods put forth by which you can leave your body and go traipsing through the astral.

Some people suggest that you master lucid dreaming, whereby you train yourself to notice when you’re dreaming and then take control of the dream.

This can be done by telling yourself to notice a trigger item in the dream, such as an apple, and when you see an apple you’ll remember that you’re dreaming and go from there.

Or they suggest that you ask yourself periodically throughout the day if you’re dreaming.

At some point, it will become a habit and will occur while you’re dreaming.

When you can answer yes to that question, then you are in control and dreaming lucidly. From there, you can then will yourself out of your body.

Another method involves meditation. You get into a deep meditative state and then consciously tell yourself to leave your body.

There are many methods online and you can check them out and see if they work for you.

If you look online or in bookstores, you’ll find a lot on these topics.

And the ones I’ve seen all say that the main distinction between these types of soul/body separation is that one is voluntary and the other involuntary.

But, I had a few experiences and they weren’t out-of-body experiences since there was no trauma and I didn’t die.

All I can figure is that I astral projected and I wasn’t trying for that at all.

My Personal Astral Projection Experiences

My Personal Astral Projection Experiences Skull Gal

There were three instances where I feel as if I left my body. Two during meditation and one while asleep.

Not Alone in My Room

One was when I was lying flat on my back in bed trying to meditate.

Just counting breaths, one on the in-breath, two on the out-breath, three on the in-breath, and four on the out-breath.

Then repeat. Normally I have trouble quieting my mind, but this time I relaxed easily.

I thought I heard the shower running and looked towards the bathroom. The light was on when it hadn’t been before.

The next I knew I was sitting on the end of my bed and looking at my body lying there.

There was a girl sitting on the floor and another sitting on my dresser. A third, presumably, was in the shower. I thought I knew them somehow.

Then I was back in my body and back to normal awareness.

I looked toward the bathroom but the light was off and there was no water running.

Pulled Out of My Body

Another time I was doing the same meditation when I felt someone grab me and pull me out.

We went through the walls and the ceiling and flew around at breakneck speed, in and out and around. I fought to get it to let go, as it terrified me.

I finally went back into my body but felt arms touching mine and I still tried to get them to let go. Then I came back to full awareness.

As I calmed down, I felt emotions of chagrin in the air, for want of a better description and the thought came into my mind “We thought you were ready.”

I wonder if those girls were spirit guides or something and were trying to help me see what was possible.

This only happened these two times and only in that apartment, so who knows.

They could have been dreams as well, but it didn’t feel like it.

I don’t think they were lucid dreams, either, because I wasn’t aware of dreaming, but of being out of my body and didn’t take control of it.

A Dream Astral Projection

The last situation did happen during a dream.

I was asleep and dreaming and the next thing I knew I was at my friends’ apartment.

I was seeing everything from another plane, it was dark but I could see and hear them through this veil.

They were having a fight, arguing and yelling and the sound was very loud.

I could feel the emotions in the air and it was overwhelming. I tried to get them to see or hear me, but they couldn’t.

Finally, I huddled down on the floor, put my arms over my head, wished to be out of there, and found myself back in my dream.

The next time I saw them, I told them about the strange dream I’d had about them.

They looked at each other uncomfortably and asked what day.

I told them it had been Friday and they looked at each other nervously.

One of them said, “It’s not nice to spy from the astral” and they admitted that they had had a fight.

I had already been awake by the time they had it, but it was only off by about two hours.

So I may have astral projected to their apartment and a couple of hours into the future.

They had been in the room I saw and the fight had been pretty intense.

Out Of Body Experience Books

There are also out-of-body experience books.

One of the ones I read was Journeys Out of the Body by Robert A. Monroe in which I found that the feeling of someone touching my arms that night was the feel of my own soul lying on top of my body preparatory to going back in.

That was a comforting feeling and made me feel better about it.

There’s also a plethora of books and articles about near-death experiences and what is common among them.

A few have been written by physicians who gathered stories from their patients.

A word of caution though. There is a religious cult that is writing books on topics that are paranormal and on other religions or spiritualities.

These books and videos look as if they were written by someone who knows about the topic and there is often no indication that it is really about their religion.

The intent is to lure you away from your interest and get you to convert to their beliefs.

They will attempt to scare you as well. If you start to see references to the devil or hell or many references to God and Jesus or Bible verses, the book isn’t legitimate.

Although many books on these topics will reference Bible verses it won’t be so often and it won’t be the same type.

Legitimate OBE’s don’t push anyone’s religious belief. They all have a similar, loving experience and the experience is brief, even if it seems a bit longer.

They will be positive, not negative. So, just be discerning and pick up some good ones.

Books on Astral Projection

Here are some books that look good. This one looks like it feels that obe’s are the same as astral projection but still looks good.

Some of these books I have read and provide good information on Astral Projection.

Hacking the Out of Body Experience: Leveraging Science to Induce OBEsHacking the Out of Body Experience: Leveraging Science to Induce OBEsAvailable on Paperback.
Life After LifeLife After Life – The Bestseller Original InvestigationAvailable on Kindle, Audiobook, Hardcover and Paperback.
Afterlives Firsthand Accounts of Twenty Notable PeopleAfterlives Firsthand Accounts of Twenty Notable PeopleAvailable on Kindle and Paperback.

OBE’s are also known as near-death experiences. This book is one of the ones that brought these occurrences to the public’s attention and is very good.

What Science Says

For the most part, science can’t prove that OBE’s or astral projections actually occur outside of the body.

Most of this is based on the assumption of a soul, which can’t be located or seen by scientific methods.

So, the general consensus is that these experiences are caused by a problem in the brain, either trauma from a blow, lack of oxygen during a time when clinical death occurs, a mental disorder, or the use of hallucinogens.

In attempts to see if a person left their body, items or pictures were placed on top of high cabinets, since many people who have claimed to leave their bodies said that they were floating up towards the ceiling.

The person would be asked what those items or pictures were on their “return”.

The only problem was that either an OBE didn’t occur or it happened in another room, so there was no conclusive evidence obtained.

My feeling is that science helps explain some things, like time-lapses, that are more objective or described in physics and simply can’t explain those things that are subjective, like astral projection or seeing the future.

There are some scientists who are taking the possibility seriously, but they aren’t getting the support some of the others are.

Hopefully, the means to study this scientifically while accepting the concept of a soul will be discovered soon.

My Conclusions

For me, pretty much any psychic or paranormal event is fascinating, but OBE’s and astral projection is low on my list of what I’d like to experience.

So, I guess I have what they call out-of-body experience anxiety. Lucid dreaming is fun.

I’ve had two spontaneous experiences with that and once I knew I was dreaming I did all kinds of things.

Flew, broke things and put them back together, created things out of thin air, etc.

But, leaving my body, if that’s what I did, isn’t something that I would like to repeat.

Lots of people do want to do that, though, and I know that could be a real adventure.

Your Turn to Astral Project

It’s a way of knowing that we survive death, since we leave our bodies then too, only permanently.

This is only a foretaste. Maybe if I had known what was happening at the time, I would have gotten more into it.

Perhaps those were spirits who helped me along and I did apologize for fighting them that one time and thanked them for trying to show me what was possible, just in case.

If you’d like to experiment with out-of-body travel, take a look online and see what techniques are available.

If you have either astral projected or had a near-death or out-of-body experience, let us know in the comments.

It will help others validate their own experiences and give us some assurance of life after death.

Premonitions of danger have occurred to many people throughout history.

Perhaps you’ve had a warning that came out of nowhere or in an unusual way that prevented you from being harmed.

It’s hard to know where these warnings come from, but they use various means to reach you. We’ll take a look at some of them.

Ancient Premonitions of Danger

Premonitions of Danger Skull Gal Pinterest Pin

Examples of psychic warnings are all through history. They are even found in ancient stories.

One of the oldest is about Cassandra.

She was King Priam’s daughter in Troy and had been given the gift of prophecy, but either because she refused the God Apollo’s advances or reneged on a deal with him to allow him to court her in exchange for the gift, she was cursed to never be believed.

She was able to see the fall of Troy during the Trojan war but no one believed her. So, she had to see her city fall.

Her own future was tragic and presumably, she saw that, too, but couldn’t prevent it.

In the year 44 BC, it’s said that Calpurnia, Julius Ceasar’s wife, had a dream in which she saw a statue of her husband bleeding profusely and Romans washing their hands in the blood.

The Greek historian, Plutarch, wrote about it and Shakespeare included the story in his play on Julius Ceasar.

Both Julius and Calpurnia didn’t believe in signs or portents so when she had this dream and told Ceasar about it, it was unusual for her to be so upset by it.

But, upset she was, enough to beg him not to go to the forum that day. She was sure that something bad would happen.

Of course, he didn’t listen to her and was stabbed repeatedly by his rivals. The lesson is clear. Listen to your wife.

Abraham Lincoln’s Dream Premonition

Closer to home and our own time, Abraham Lincoln reportedly had a dream about his own assassination.

He told his law partner, Ward Hill Lamon, and his wife, Mary Todd, although no one else seems to have been told until Lamon wrote about it some twenty years later.

In the dream, Lincoln went into the East room while looking for the source of the sounds of mourning he heard.

Finding a corpse wrapped in a funeral shroud with its face covered and guarded by soldiers and a number of mourners, he asked its identity.

In reply to his question as to its identity, he was told by a soldier that it was the president who had been assassinated.

This dream occurred three days before he was shot in the Ford Theatre.

He had also had a recurring dream in which he was sailing that usually preceded some important event during the civil war.

The last of these was right before his assassination and in this one, the boat was sailing very rapidly.

He felt that meant that all of these events were reaching their conclusion.

Lincoln did pay attention to his dreams, feeling that they often gave him information about events.

Premonitions of Danger On the Titanic

The Titanic seems to be a source of unending fascination for some of us.

Some of that fascination is due to the many feelings of doom and fears experienced by those who were to sail on her.

Eva Hart’s mother was very uneasy about the sailing, feeling that they were defying God by saying that the ship was unsinkable.

Her husband dismissed these forebodings and they boarded anyway. Although she and Eva were rescued, her husband perished. Again, listen to your wife.

Some who were uneasy didn’t make the voyage, deliberately booking passage on another ship instead or not leaving at all.

Some left at other ports before the ship traveled on to where it hit the iceberg. Several crew members never reported for duty.

The most famous of these purported Titanic premonitions was the book, Futility or the Wreck of the Titan.

Written by Morgan Robertson, it told of a ship very much like the Titanic and its sinking after hitting an iceberg.

This ship also had few lifeboats, an inquiry into the sinking, and a few other details.

Otherwise, the story was quite different, focusing on a sailor who has some pretty unbelievable adventures.

What makes it so surprising, is that the book was written in 1898, fully 14 years before the Titanic went down.

The author revisited the book after the tragedy and added things like calling the Titan unsinkable, but otherwise, it was pretty prescient.

Premonitions of Danger Recent Examples

Similar to the Titanic, there were stories of people who had a bad feeling about going to the Twin Towers on 9/11/2001.

From calling in sick to just deciding they wouldn’t show up that day, many people stayed home and survived that fateful day.

Others went to work, but still felt extremely uneasy and others, who didn’t work there, felt feelings of dread on visits there in the preceding days.

Delays and unusual circumstances kept others from being at work that day.

They were annoyances then but the people were grateful for them after the fact.

Obviously, it would be stretching things to call delays and things happening from outside these people’s control as premonitions.

They were still unusual, in that they happened at just the right time to prevent the ones involved from being there when the disaster struck.

I’ll always wonder why this happens to some people and not to others.

Types of Premonitions

Premonitions come in various ways.

Often they come as feelings. Some gut instinct that something isn’t right about a situation or a destination that day.

Or a feeling of concern for a person that you just can’t put your finger on.

Many come in the form of dreams.

Sometimes they’re symbolic and are hard to make out, but give you a feeling of dread, that something bad could happen.

Other times they are very clear, even showing in detail what could happen.

Some Personal Premonitions of Danger

Some of the topics I choose for Skullgal are ones that I have an interest in but no experience and others are ones that I’ve had a lot of experience in.

It’s why I became so interested in the paranormal, to begin with. Premonitions are one such topic.

My grandmother had a premonition that she tried very hard to prevent. Unfortunately, she was unable to.

Somehow, she knew that her oldest son would drown. She didn’t know when or where, but she knew how he would die.

She kept him from big bodies of water as often as she could, and limited a lot of his movements.

Nonetheless, he became a proficient swimmer and as he grew, she couldn’t protect him always.

Like me, he loved to read and went to the library often to borrow books.

One evening, when he was 17 and coming home with some books, the boys he was walking with dared him to cross the lake to the little dirt patch in the middle.

I don’t know if they were going to see how fast he could go or what, but he took the dare and set out.

He never made it to the patch or come back. The boys became alarmed and went for help.

A few days later, he was found caught in some reeds under the water.

He had become entangled and couldn’t get out. Of course, grandma was devastated, but there had been nothing she could have done.

Two Brothers

Grandma had been pregnant with another boy at that time who was born a couple of months later.

Thirty-seven years after his brother drowned, he visited us in California.

We were driving to Marine World and I was in the back seat with my uncle.

He was asking if we could stop for a pit stop, and my father said we’d find one soon.

While my uncle was singing little nonsense songs about a pitstop under his breath, I had the strangest idea that he wouldn’t be bothered by mundane things like bathroom breaks, eating, or sleeping soon.

I also saw in my mind’s eye, a view of the sun shining on the water as if I was under the water looking up at it.

Then I saw a picture of my uncle as if he were a being of light.

Along with all this was a feeling from him as if his soul was more prominent for me than his body. I felt him as more soul than body, if that makes sense.

I have had this with other people, all the time with those individuals, and will talk a little on that another time, but this was a first with my uncle. https://skullgal.com/soul-connections/

He was nervous for the next few days, starting at noises from outside the house and needing to be reassured all the time.

A highly unusual state for a man who was a prison guard.

Three days after our Marine World trip, the rest of the family went fishing while I went to work.

When I got home, everyone was in a panic or crying.

It turns out that my uncle had gone out in the water to get someone out who wasn’t coming in when called, was caught in an undertow and pulled down.

They finally got him out, but it was too late.

He had drowned like his brother had a few months before his birth.

I think that the sun on the water I saw may have been the last thing he saw before he passed.

A year later, I woke up early one morning with chest pains and trouble breathing.

My parents were going to take me to the hospital when the pain kind of floated away.

We were mystified but went back to bed. A little before dawn we got a call from an aunt.

My youngest uncle, brother to the two that drowned, had been in an accident.

A car had hit him and crushed his face and chest. He was still alive for a short time but died in the hospital.

It had happened around the same time as I woke with the pain. I wonder if I felt what he felt at the time.

Premonitions at Work

I was at work and one of my co-workers was standing next to me talking with someone else.

He was in a good mood and drinking a regular cola but for some reason, I remembered hearing that he’d had a mild stroke once and felt he needed to be checked again real soon, and I felt he shouldn’t be drinking the cola.

It was an odd feeling and I dismissed it as just that—odd.

It turns out he was diabetic and wasn’t supposed to have that cola.

Three days later, (my window seems to be three days) he did have a stroke that he didn’t recover from.

I was working somewhere else and was supposed to take the money we got to the bank and make a deposit in the night drop at the bank.

We’d done this since I’d worked there and apparently that’s how it had always been done.

This particular day, I kept asking if I could put the money in the safe and deposit it in the morning or take a security guard with me.

The store was in a mall, so I had access to mall security.

I was denied both things and told I would be endangering my job to keep trying to change things. But, I was very concerned.

When it was time to go, I counted out the register, bagged up the deposit, and went out to the bank in the parking lot.

This was at approximately 10 o’clock at night. Not the smartest time to be going out with a bag of money.

As I approached the ATM, two men in masks and carrying guns with silencers came running up to me, yelling “Give us the bag! Give us the bag!”

I handed it over, they grabbed it and ran.

Then I ran to my car, got back inside the mall and ran to the first open restaurant.

The police were called and they took a report.

The store was questioned about their highly questionable business practices and when it was discovered that I wasn’t a manager and had only been hired a few months before, the fat really hit the fire.

We made the deposit in the morning after that.

A Voice of Warning

The most startling of these premonitions of danger warnings came when I was working at a daycare center.

It was one of my first jobs and started as a volunteer position.

I was just an assistant but loved being with the kids and teachers.

One day, I was alone in the nap room, rubbing the back of the last little boy to fall asleep.

If I left him for an instant, this kid would have been everywhere, waking up the kids.

While I was kneeling by his cot, rubbing his back, I heard a woman’s voice say “Check on Tom” (not his real name).

I glanced over to Tom’s cot and saw him lying quietly so I just ignored the voice, thinking it was just my imagination.

So, I returned to rubbing the other boy’s back.

The voice returned, louder and more insistent than before, “Check on Tom and check on Tom now!”

I lost my balance and sat down hard.

Leaning over the other boy, I whispered, “I’m going to go check on Tom. Will you stay right here, quietly?”

He assured me he would and I went over to Tom’s cot.

The blanket was wrapped tightly around him, especially around his head.

He was on his stomach and I didn’t see the rise and fall of his back.

I tried to remove the blanket and found that it was very tightly wound.

Finally, it loosened and was able to be removed.

His face looked a little blue and I felt no breath when I put my hand under his nose.

I thought “Oh please, don’t let him die” and the next I knew, my hand went up and hit him hard on the back between his shoulder blades.

The result was a deep intake of breath, then he began to breathe in and out in big, large gasps.

This boy was a light sleeper, so the fact that when I hit him I didn’t wake him showed something had been wrong.

His face got very red and I went to tell someone. No one believed me.

His grandfather came to pick him up early and he was hard to rouse.

Since all it usually took was a light tap on the shoulder, this alarmed me, but still, no one said anything.

Then Tom got up and began to run around in circles, screaming.

Again, usually a touch and he’s up and toddling quietly out with his mother or whoever picked him up.

The teacher later told his mother but made it seem like I was just exaggerating and they laughed.

A couple of months later, the boy was having trouble with learning some things and his new teacher in the next level up said “Gee, it’s like he had air loss once or something” then looked at me and said, “Oh, Margie.”

I later found out that hitting between the shoulder blades will get someone breathing again.

You Should Slow Down

Here is a story that my friend told me about his most memorable premonition of danger.

He used to do a delivery run thru the foothills in the area.

Lots of twists and turns on the road. He had been doing this particular route for months without any incidents.

One day as he was driving he had the strange feeling that he should probably slow down for the next curve.

He had no idea where the notion came from, but he did slow down.

On the next turn, a car sped off from a driveway on the right.

If he had not slowed down, he would have t-boned that other car.

As it was, he missed it by mere inches.

What Do I Mean By Soul Connections?

What Do I Mean By Soul Connections Skull Gal Pin

To be honest, I never even had a word for this feeling before.

Earlier, I asked people to send me their first paranormal experience and we did our introductory article on that.

Read Our Post Psychic First Time Stories

In that article, I described my first paranormal experience involving a ghostly head appearing in the hallway.

But, in truth, that wasn’t my first paranormal experience.

It was meeting a little boy in kindergarten who I was immediately drawn to. I had no fear at the time of this feeling.

Later, I would be extremely nervous to meet someone similar. But, he and I played together and just enjoyed one another’s company.

In trying to find out what I felt around some people, I’ve had people describe either immediately liking someone or not liking them or just having that feeling that they’ve always known one another.

Some thought I was describing sexual attraction, but that wasn’t it.

I have had my feeling around people I had no sexual attraction for and for those that I did.

What I feel is a little different.

The person will stand out for me, like when I noticed a man who later became my friend all the way across a room.

I kept glancing his way, totally aware of where he was in the room.

My feeling is one of a strong tingling in my solar plexus then almost an electrical current going up and down my spine when the person is near.

Sometimes it’s extremely strong, and other times very, very mild or I just know that the person is different somehow.

And I can’t understand why other people don’t notice it around them, too. What I found out later is, that most often, it’s mutual.

What are Soul Connections?

Yeah, that was my question. What exactly is a soul connection?

I came to describe it to myself and others as a feeling as if the person wasn’t entirely human.

I felt them as spirits more than humans.

The only time I’ve felt that with anyone else was if the person was going to pass away suddenly, and for the three days before, I would feel that from them when I never did for them before.

So, I think it’s their spirit that I’m sensing.

There’s a saying “We’re spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings having a spiritual experience.”

Well, the best way I can describe this, I guess, is that I feel most people as human and sometimes they can be spiritual, but I feel these people as spirits or some other being just pretending to be human.

I’m wondering if we have a past life connection. Where most people would feel this as familiarity, “Oh look, it’s you again”, I feel it as immediate sensing of the soul itself because I’ve met that soul before.

That would explain why they mostly feel it too. And it would be a close relationship in the prior life, not a brief one.

An Example of A Soul Connection

In the article on reincarnation, I talked about a past life in Germany and meeting two people from there at the job I held at the time. https://skullgal.com/reincarnation/

One didn’t give me that feeling, but the girl, I called Gwen in the article, who may have been my sister, did give me that feeling and she felt it from me.

We may have come together in this life because we were dealing with a similar situation to the one we dealt with in that life.

But, just because we shared this didn’t mean we didn’t have disagreements. Oh, did we ever.

From what I hear, people that you reincarnate with will often be ones that you have problems with because you are working out old issues.

One thing about them, you feel drawn to them on one level and repelled on another. You think about them a lot. And if it’s mutual, they’re thinking about you a lot, too.

You learn a lot from one another as well. And you can reflect back on parts of your personality. You may be more similar than you are different.

An Unusual Experience with Soul Connections

I used to feel like someone I felt this from could read me, in other words, I couldn’t hide anything from them.

But, they can’t read minds, phew. Not so fast.

About the time I realized I wasn’t an open book, I found that I was.

The gentlemen I had seen across the room that I referenced earlier, actually could. Or at least, mine.

I couldn’t hide a thing from him. And he said that he often could read minds.

I’ve noticed that those with whom I have this connection can also be psychically linked to me as well.

I knew when Gwen would be off from work and why. She knew things about me as well.

My current supervisor, one day told me that I’d already told her something, I’d just started to tell her for the first time.

When I pointed out that I’d been at the other end of the building when I’d thought to tell her about that customer, and this was the first I’d been back to this room, she looked shocked and ran into the back room.

Yes, I sensed her with this unusual feeling when I first met her.

By the way, when I tentatively asked if she’d felt something like this, thinking it was mutual as usual, she didn’t know what I was talking about.

One other person I know knew what I was talking about, but didn’t feel it from me. The only two that I know of.

Interestingly, both come up as 33 life path numbers in regular numerology.

Although it supposedly doesn’t count unless it’s done in the Pythagorean method, it still seems significant that a number that denotes someone who is connected with the spirit realm on some level all the time would make me feel as if they were more spirit than human.

Another Type of Soul Connection

Another soul connection occurrence that can sometimes happen between you is empathy.

I could literally feel what Gwen was feeling, sometimes even her physical symptoms. Even if I wasn’t in the same place as she was.

I called her once because I felt like she was sick and she was just about to go to the hospital.

On hearing this, I described her symptoms and she confirmed that this was what she was feeling and surprisingly, my knowledge didn’t surprise her.

I told her it was the stress and feeling of betrayal that came from the people in our room at work rejecting us for that religion. I’d felt it before. It would go away, it just hurt at the time.

These girls had been her friends before they converted to this religion and we were eventually removed from our jobs for not converting. In our past lives, we had been killed for not following this religion.

She went to the hospital anyway and the doctor told her it was stress and it would eventually heal on its own.

Now that she and I don’t see each other as regularly, this empathetic link isn’t in effect anymore.

But, I don’t feel others’ physical feelings and emotions as if they were mine with people I’m not connected with.

Sometimes, if I touch someone else and they are hurting somewhere, I’ll feel it in my body, too, and their pain will ease, but that appears to be something else and not done on purpose.

I usually don’t know they’re hurting until after it starts within me.

So What Are Soul Connections Really?

I’m still trying to learn more. If you google soul connections, you’ll find several hits.

Most don’t describe what I mean by it and mostly use it as another name for soul mates, which isn’t what this appears to be.

But I’ve found a few sites that seem to answer the question. This is a good one https://thedreamcatch.com/4-signs-of-a-soul-connection/

We are eternal beings and we forget that very often.

Maybe the reason we meet someone who we resonate with on a soul level simply serves to remind us of that fact.

We go along getting mired in our everyday physical existence and then we meet someone who gives us a little touch of eternity and reminds us of our soul. Perhaps that’s the best reason to meet of all.
