Comments for SQLPam's Blog https://sqlpam.wordpress.com Life changes fast and this is where I occasionally take time to ponder what I have learned and experienced. A lot of focus will be on SQL and the SQL community – but life varies. I haven’t had too much of an issue with this, but I usually contact organizers. For me, it’s hard to move my schedule, so if I plan on attending an event, I want to get some type of confirmation early. Otherwise I have to submit to another event. If I free up time, I want to know I’m going.

Great story!

I got into programming as a temporary thing over 30 years ago. I had wanted to go into nursing – I figured technology would pay well enough to get me through school for nursing. Ryan is saying this will be a temporary means to his career in music or some other performing arts. I just smile like my dad did. He was an FE Specialist for IBM.

Imagine he’s asked in a job interview “how did you start in SQL databases”; he would answer, “oh, when I was 16, I started learning SQL so I can better track data for my Yugioh cards.” Bam! How impressive that would be! That speaks volume of his character. “Oh, by the way, my mom was a SQL Server Expert and we would talk a lot about SQL over pasta.” “OK, you’re hired!”

Comment on and so it begins… SQL Saturday Tampa 110 by thesqlguru https://sqlpam.wordpress.com/2012/02/01/and-so-it-begins-sql-saturday-tampa-110/#comment-24 Fri, 03 Feb 2012 17:28:39 +0000 http://sqlpam.wordpress.com/?p=87#comment-24 Oh, I absolutely agree that SQL Saturday’s are a great way to groom new speakers! And hopefully the mix you come out with on the first pass will match the tracks well. I have seen a number of SQL Saturday events though where a preponderance of the submitted sessions were focused in a single main area (BI typically).
