]]>Through Sunday, January 18th, we’re running a food drive in partnership with Keystone Community Services at the beer hall. Come in, drop off food, and we’ll give you a free beer ticket for the beer hall. All food will be delivered by us to Keystone early next week.
Everyone deserves food. But what do you do when you need help and can’t leave your home? When someone cannot leave their home, hunger does not wait. That is why Keystone brings food directly to the community through their Foodmobile, Free Farmers Markets, and Grocery Delivery programs.
Let’s help them out.

]]>We would never have reached this landmark without the unwavering support of the Surly community–craft beer drinkers, metalheads, soccer moms, minivan dads, weird uncles, party aunts, middle managers, BC Taproom regulars–far and wide. That’s why, as we celebrate this milestone throughout 2026, this one is all about them.
Here are just a few things you can expect as we roll out our year-long festivities:
Surly beers are never permanently retired. They’re just…on a break. And this spring, classic “taproom era” Surly offerings return to the Beer Hall with a vengeance.
Bender is already on and it tastes as great as ever. In the coming weeks/months, we’ll be welcoming the following beers back to the fold on draft and in crowlers:
In market, we’re X-tremely X-cited (we call this a tease in the biz) to welcome the mighty XTRA-CITRA back to our core lineup of beers! An easy-drinking, low-ABV pale ale with the hop kick of IPAs twice its size, Xtra-Citra’s bright, citrusy notes of grapefruit and pineapple were sorely missed. It goes to all Surly markets this spring on draft and in 4, 6, and 12-packs. (And yes, it will be with the original can/logo.)
We’ll be distributing a fan-selected Surly Variety Pack to our Upper Midwest audience later this year. Tom from Mahtomedi who has been demanding the return of Overrated for six years? This is his moment. More details on this in the coming weeks.
Finally, we’re introducing a 20th Anniversary Surly Passport for our local Beer Hall audience. You know those coupon booklets you purchase from the local youth hockey team that get you a nickel off gas at the Pump ‘n Munch? This is basically that, but 100x better: Complimentary beer, free hog frites, merch discounts, BOGO pizzas, you name it, it’s in there, all redeemable at the Brewery throughout 2026. We’ll be selling them online and at the Beer Hall later this month!
This isn’t all we’ll be doing this year, but it’s January, and we all need something to look forward to right about now. Watch our social channels and subscribe to our newsletter for release dates on all the above, details on our 20th Anniversary Party, and more!

]]>Jello shots, pickle roll-ups, unusually-sized drinks—we’ve made it bigger and weirder this year. Why did we order ashtrays? The little guys wanted them, and they are very demanding. Especially after midnight.
This mid-‘80s dive bar tribute is now taking reservations. Please note that we’ll be closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
P.S. If anyone has Phoebe Cates’s email, please let us know, we’d love to have her bartend for a night.

]]>Double Elbow is the brainchild of Niko Tonks, nu-metal superfan and head brewer at Rochester’s Little Thistle Brewing. His Double Elbow imprint focuses on European-style lagers crafted with all American ingredients. We jumped at the chance to work with him on one, and the result is Freak on a Leash, a fiendishly crushable “Korn Lager” that clocks in at 4.4% ABV.
Niko wasn’t the only collaborator on this beer, as we sourced low-oil corn from Riggs Brewery in Urbana, IL, whose co-owner, Darin Riggs, went to brewing school with Surly’s Ben Smith. The barley comes from Troubadour Farms in Fort Collins, CO, and the Montana-grown Saaz hops come from Flathead Valley Farms through Hollingbery and Sons Farms and our friend Juno Choi.
Freak on a Leash pours a clear light straw color with low bitterness and notes of biscuit, fresh hay, and corn chip. It’s on tap now, and while we hope it stays on through our September 20th SurlyFest bash, there’s a non-zero chance we drink it all before then. Stop in this weekend if you want a taste.

]]>Strung Out
Our 2025 headliner is California melodic hardcore legends Strung Out. They’ll be playing their 1996 album, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, in its entirely, along with other favorites.
The Marked Men
American punk rock straight out of Denton, Texas, The Marked Men sold out Cloudland almost immediately last time through town. If you missed them or can’t get enough of them, come to Surly and see them for free. One of two bands on the bill featuring singer/songwriter Jeff Burke, the other being…
Radioactivity
With a lineup Like a roll call of Texas punk/garage rock royalty and led by Burke, Radioactivity returns to the Twin Cities for the first time since they played the Triple Rock (RIP) in 2017!
Bad Cop Bad Cop
Punk rock out of San Pedro, California. That’s a pedigree. Bad Cop Bad Cop release their fourth album, Lighten Up, on September 19th, and are stopping at Darkness Day on the midwest leg of their tour. The new record “started with having the girls over on Sundays. I would cook brunch, we’d drink tons of bottles of Prosecco, and we would write music together,” says guitarist/vocalist Stacey Dee.
Codefendants
Impossible to define by traditional standards, Codefendants were forged out of a desire to make an album that sounded like nothing else; a completely genre-fluid album, a cross between hip hop, new-wave, flamenco, and the Beatles. They were incredible at Darkness Day 2023, and we’re thrilled to welcome them back.
Iron Roses
Fueled by the injustices of our current times – Iron Roses songs are the kind of protest anthems that only a group of seasoned musicians could make. Still angry, still driven, and still screaming – this is a band that will never give up the fight.
Havok
Thrash metal at its absolute finest, Havok heads to Surly from Colorado. The ideal band to help scratch that Darkness Day metal itch.
Impaler
Impaler is an American horror-themed heavy metal/speed metal band from Minnesota. The band has a theatrical show which features fake blood, cages, coffins, latex severed heads, and a finale that includes a mock disemboweling of victims. Background vocalist, Dr. Corpse, bears a striking resemblance to Surly’s Zach Lindsay, returns to provide bloody, disgusting mayhem. (This is a compliment.)
God Came From Space
At the end of the last Millennium, Todd Petterson and Kevin Bigelow from Dumpster Juice were exploring new directions and outlets for their prolific output. Their efforts resulted in God Came From Space. Augmented by our very own Slayrah (19+ years at Surly) from Hot Karl and Sugar Freek, they refined their current sound with soaring dual guitar solos, a pounding rhythm section, and thoughtful, sometimes cryptic lyrics.

WHERE CAN I GO BEFORE THE SHOW?
The Surly Beer Hall/Beer Garden opens at 11am. Plenty of room and time to gather if you’re meeting up with friends.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
Parking is already a challenge in our neighborhood. With our parking lot unavailable during concerts, it becomes even more limited. Our first recommendation, in all caps and boldface type: USE PUBLIC TRANSIT, BIKES, RIDE SHARES OR CARPOOL IF YOU CAN. We’re a couple blocks off the Green Line (Prospect Park Station) and even closer to the U of M Transitway. We have extra bike racks and a nearby Lyft drop off/pick up area. If driving is your only option, neighboring businesses have kindly offered their parking lots for use during the show if you don’t mind a little walking. See the entire map below:

WHAT CAN I BRING INSIDE?
The list is below. If you see something that isn’t on it, let us know and we’ll add it.
CAN I LEAVE AND RE-ENTER THE GROUNDS?
No.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
The show is rain or shine 99.9% of the time. There will be a 30-minute hold if lightning strikes within seven miles of the grounds. The First Avenue team makes the weather calls based on National Weather Service advisories.
CASH OR CREDIT?
Credit card only!
WHERE IS THE LOST AND FOUND?
Anything found at the show will be sent to the box office. Anything found after the show gets brought inside to the Beer Hall’s host stand.
WHAT’S AVAILABLE FOR FOOD AND DRINK AT THE CONCERT?
We’ve expanded Surly’s food options to feature more of our Beer Hall’s culinary excellence at Festival Field:
In addition, we’ll have the following food trucks onsite to round out your dining experience:
Dranks:
In addition, we’ll be selling BOGO Mister Surly’s Orange Whip cans right by the Surly merch area! One ticket=two beers!
As noted above, there will also be a free water station for those looking to hydrate.
Here’s a helpful map of the grounds:

If you have any further questions, hit us up on our social channels and we’ll do our best to respond as soon as is humanly possible. See you at the show!
