And I love it….. This week on Carr Stereo I connected with “Generation Radio” who are releasing their second record- “Take 2” on April 17th.

Produced by founding members Jay DeMarcus (Rascal Flatts) and Jason Scheff (former Chicago), the band features an all-star lineup: Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Average White Band) joins on drums, replacing the formidable Deen Castronovo (who returned to Journey as full-time member), while Tom Yankton (guitar, vocals) and Chris Rodriguez (guitar, vocals) round out the powerhouse ensemble.

I loved catching up with Jay and Jason this week to discuss forming the band, their inspirations, joining Chicago as a “young dude”, nabbing Steve Ferrone as your drummer and the time Jason joined Alex Lifeson for a RUSH jam! And of course, their spectacular 2nd release.

MAGNOLIA MEDICINE on 4/17

They warmed up their upcoming tour dates with a Jersey show at Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck NJ with their classics- And Fools Shine On, Machete, Got No Shame, I Lie In The Bed I Make , Wishpool and more PLUS songs from their dazzling upcoming release including the first single- THIS MEANS WAR.

This was one of the most spectacular shows I have seen in years. Damon is a guitar hero and with axe partner Tony Higbee creates a double barrel experience that rivals any band known for a two guitar attack. Original bassist Glen Maxey and drummer Jared Pope provided the pulse that has always made the core of the Brother Cane sound. You MUST see them. WOWZA.

The killer “Stone Horses” opened the show with energy, fire and power. I have always loved these guys. their new single- “Make A Living” is out!

Who was the first female lead guitarist I remember seeing. Ann and Nancy Wilson were the leaders of their own band and Heart affected my life greatly. Strong, powerful, beautiful. They were and still are unstoppable. I consider myself lucky to have interviewed the Seattle sisters together AND separately over the years and still listen to “Little Queen” , Dog and Butterfly” , “Bebe Le Strange” and their debut “Dreamboat Annie” regularly (and their entire catalog truly, their lesser known “Passionworks” is an underrated gem) . Her flamenco , yet hard driving, folk infused style is unique and impactful.

Nancy’s musical scores are a part of some of my favorite movies- Say Anything, Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire, Elizabethtown….she is amazing.

I got a big from her after a live interview for a studio audience at the Google Headquarters – I’ll never forget it.

Her debut album- “ROCK IS DEAD” is an underrated, raw, snapshot at the early days of her career and every record since has been an evolution into her songwriting and rock and roll journey.

She is on fire….. In the clip below she discusses working with Slash. And btw…she has also worked with Staind, Scott Stapp and Nita Strauss.

That is my first memory of Suzi Quatro. I was about 7 years old, in the record store with my dad and I spotted the Suzi Quatro debut – with her out front looking tough and cool and her band behind her and it spoke to me. We bought it, and hearing “48 Crash” for the first time changed my life.

Suzi came before Joan Jett, before Chrissie Hynde, before Heart. She was the original punk rock princess with a pop punch that was infectious. Detroit born and raised she kicked down every door. I never saw a girl playing an instrument, never mind a bass guitar.

Suzi’s success was massive overseas, but minimal in the states. Joan Jett took so much of who she is as a performer (and she graciously discusses that openly) from Suzi. Suzi invented the cool scream, the original bass playing chick (there were none back then) and the leather jumpsuit style.

She became a household name with her “Leather Tuscedero” – (Pinky’s singing cousin) on the series Happy Days in 1977 and had a huge hit – “Stumblin’ In” with British singer Chris Norman and has always remained active. Two different roles for this incredible rebel.

Suzi is still recording and performing and has NEVER compromised.

I loved her. I still do. If you really want to know her, please check out her documentary “SUZI Q” that came out in 2019- it’s magnificent.

I was lucky enough to grab some time with Suzi not so long ago. Here’s a taste of our chat. How lucky am I?

Ann is the GOAT. Plain and simple. Half of the legendary duo HEART that changed the game, redefined the landscape and made their own rules. As a young girl, I wanted to be Ann. She ruled my world. Her vocals, songwriting, beauty. My god, she’s magnificent.

I have been truly blessed in my radio career to have interviewed Ann, Nancy AND Ann and Nancy together in front of a live audience at the Google building in New York City which was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Professional OR personal.

Why always struck me about Heart was their strength. You can feel how strong they are not just as artists but as individuals. Back in the day, every guy was hitting on them, every person trying to boss them, rude them……nope. they found their voices and were having NONE of that crap. The ups, the downs, and everything in between, the originators of the female fronted rock band. The one and only HEART.

I caught up with Ann during her solo run with her band “TRIPSITTER” and she gave me some tea.

A founder of Evanescence in 1994, Amy Lee has cemented her place up front as a vocalist and front woman in rock. The bands incredible catalog, electrifying live performances and fan connection is one of the most successful in current based rock music. Her vocals, songwriting and artistry is like no one else.

She is also one of the nicest people to speak with and I’ve had her on my radio shows many, many times and connected with her via Zoom hang as well.
