On October 30, 2015 I published a LinkedIn article titled “A simple list of software testing conferences” that officially invited the community to explore and help build this site. Ten-plus years later the idea is still alive because the testing world keeps iterating—and so do I.

Highlights from 2015 to Today

182 contributors have shared updates, suggestions, fixes, and inspiration.
Nearly 1,600 deploys have kept the listings current for conference organizers and attendees alike.
Countless testers discovered new events, new peers, and new ideas because someone took the time to send a pull request.

Still Going Strong

I pushed the first commit for this project On April 16, 2015. By October I was ready for others to use it. Since then, TestingConferences.org remains a community driven, open source list of testing conferences and workshops from around the world. Whether you submitted a single typo fix or continually add new events, thank you. Your contributions help testers everywhere find spaces to learn, teach, and connect.

Here’s to the next decade of software testing conferences and workshops. If you see something missing—or want to celebrate a milestone of your own—let us know how to contribute.

Best Conferences of 2022

Attending conferences is one of the best ways to keep-up on the latest in software testing and quality and of course connect with your peers in the larger communities. This list only contains conferences, un-conferences and workshops that are specifically for software testing and quality. People should strive to attend other tech conferences as it allows us to become better informed and more well rounded.

Attending conferences this year is a bit different than in the past few years, because we’re starting to see a new normal. Some in-person conferences are returning safely but there’s still a lot of focus on online conferences and how to do them well.

Even attendees are rethinking how they prefer to attend.

Some have given up on in-person because they don’t want to take the time and expenditure to attend something in person. They enjoy the flexibility they get from online conferences.
Others enjoy the discussion and conferring aspect too much to go entirely online. They’d rather spend the time and be in person.

Maybe this had best be split into 2 going forward? In the meantime we shall see.

Is 2021 the year when in person conferences return?

“When will we see in person conferences again?
Will it happen in 2021?”

This is the million dollar question, isn’t it?

My answer is, probably not until Q1 of 2022.

Globally, we’ve started to see the most impacted individuals get vacinated. Presumably it will take at least another 6 months to get the majority of lesser impacted individuals (who opt to take the vaccine), vaccinated as well. Excluding any new variant of the COVID19 taking hold and we are left with Q4 of 2021 to Q1 of 2022 as the most likey options.

In addition to vaccine levels, countries and local jurisdictions might continue to put in place additional limits on how big events can get. So unless you are going to in-person workshops or small conferences, it could take even longer.

Virtual conferences are great, but… no one has found a way to replace the in-person experience. The networking. The dedicated time away from work and the rest of our lives to simply focus on this one thing. It’s hard to replicate that when the participants are sitting at their living room dining table.

In the meantime, prepare yourself for more virtual conferences.

As we saw (unexpectdly) in 2020, most conferences and workshops in 2021 will be either entirely or mostly online. Perhaps in the later half of 2021 when vaccination rates climb, will seem some return to normalcy with regard to physical conferences.

We know this adds to the cost of producing and coordinating a conference because you need to equipment, transportation and personnel to do these things. The following is a list of the best online software testing conferences of 2020 from around the world. These conferences focus on a number of areas including peformance testing, automated testing, AI and QA and Modern Testing principles.

The good news with people stuck at home is that more software testing conferences are headed online. This means more people than ever will have access to conference content without the need to travel and likely with less expensive tickets.

Up to Date Changes to Software Testing Conferences in 2020

As many of us know the World Health Organization has declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Work, school, travel, and public life are changing every day. Uncertainty has created stress and concern about travel plans.

Conferences all over the world are being canceled or postponed as companies and governments put in place travel bans and people look to avoid large groups. Most of the tech conferences which have been canceled are large scale events, however even the testing community has seen a few conferences changed.

Changes this year:

SauceCon 2020 is being postponed but no date has been announced.
SmartBear Connect 2020 is now an online conference. April 27-28, 2020.
Accelerate San Francisco 2020 is now an online conference for 1 day. April 29, 2020.
SauceCon Online 2020 is now an online conference for 2 days, 1 day for the US and 1 day for Europe. May 12th and May 14, 2020.
STAREAST 2020 is now an onlline conference.
Testingstage postponed to May 21-23 2020.
National Software Testing Conference 2020 postponed to June 9-10, 2020.
