“Amala isn’t just food — it’s a warm embrace from your ancestors, wrapped in history and spiced with pride.” — Idris Bello, Afropreneur
Now more than ever, speed & execution is a competitive advantage. Great ideas die in backlog; working products win hearts. We’re running this buildathon to compress months of “we should build this” into a single day of shipping and two focused weeks of polish, so the community can actually use something real.
We’ll help with speed, you focus on execution. GDG Lagos and partners provide starter kits, mentors, and a clear Definition of Done. You bring product instincts and cultural context. Together, we’ll launch a usable MVP on Day 1, then refine it for a public beta by finals.
What We’re Building and Why It Matters. Finding authentic Amala shouldn’t be luck. We’re creating a vertical discovery & verification layer (not a Google Maps clone): a crowdsourced atlas that auto-discovers likely spots from the public web, prevents duplicates, and lets the community add photos and reviews, open-sourced so it can live beyond the event.
DevFest Lagos season = ship, not just talk. The Amala Hackathon is our proof: build and launch fast, in public, with the community. Winner takes all, code goes open source, and the platform gets a real domain, so future generations never struggle to find the good bowl.
Requirements
What to Build
-
Build an application that enables users to submit, verify, and discover Amala locations through a map UI and agentic intake (chat/voice).
-
Framework-agnostic: We encourage teams to use any agentic framework they are comfortable with, but recommend Google's Agent Development Kit and A2A.
-
Autonomous discovery: The platform should search the public web for likely Amala spots (blogs, directories, social posts, reviews, menus) and auto-propose entries to a verification queue for users to confirm; no central operations team is assumed.
-
Day‑1 requirement: deliver an MVP (usable) and a live demo link by end‑of‑day Sept 13.
-
Final requirement: Publish a polished beta with repository and documentation by September 27 (virtual judging).
