But we’ve seen some book critics offer a not so favourable review of Love Lessons (see Captive Reader): […]

His brother, Lawrence, also wrote a book about Corfu, Prospero’s Cell. And for fun, Emily Sullivan has a new historical mystery series whose first book is set on Corfu, A Death on Corfu.

It’s becoming a go-to comfortable mystery read.

It is about his family who moved from England to Corfu in the 1930s to have a less expensive lifestyle. Very funny, and the basis for a recent TV series.

I love the vision of you gathering and distributing copies of this! That’s such a lovely and generous way to pass on a beloved book.

I’m now to keen to read The Perilous Gard too, but, as with ths one, will need to wait for the ILL system to source it for me. Annoyingly, only her academic book (Paradise Regained: The Tradition and the Poem) is available locally.

I still haven’t read it, though I’ve had it noted and on my radar since your review! I’m back into the diaries next but will look forward to Journey to Java after that.

This is one of those books that I pick up whenever I come across duplicate copies because I enjoy sharing it. I like The Perilous Gard just as much but it is not as much of a comfort read. What a pity the author only wrote two books! She was an English professor (apparently a terror to those she found inadequate) and perhaps was too busy until her later years.
