oh hai, I'm Thom!!

A Gen-X/Millennial cusp (Xennial), I'm old enough to remember life before the internet but not (quite) old enough to have seen Nirvana live. Or, as my wife puts it, I adapt to technology like a Millennial but get angry about it like a Boomer.

I am not the restaurant chain in Liverpool, the map engraver, or the high sheriff of Lancashire.

Me, a white man with short dark hair and ear piercings. I am wearing glasses, a beanie, and a short-sleeved dark t-shirt. I am lit with dramatic lighting with high contrast exacerbated by black and white treatment.

I am a creative technologist at Havas Lynx CX but I haven't always been. I help craft innovative digital solutions with large pharmaceutical companies like Sanofi, GSK, and Merck.

I have been making things for the web for more than 14 years. I am an enthusiastic code janitor and a proud 1x engineer.

I love to build websites that work for everyone; I put a lot of focus on accessibility and performance.

Testimonials

When I'm not building things for the internet, I take photos of stuff.

Often found wandering, camera in hand, through the Cheshire countryside or local markets and charity shops with my wife, kids, and dog.

I have been known to do a little bit of running. I prefer running on dirt tracks, towpaths, and up and down hills; I believe it may be called Trail Running but there could be some nuance I'm unaware of. I'm not hugely accomplished; never competed and have personal bests of around 6k in 30 minutes.

I have been reading a lot of books about "fantasy" lately. I'm currently reading "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi. There are 336 books on my To Be Read list. I just added "The Book of Love" by Kelly Link. You can see more of my reading on my dedicated Reading page.

I have also enjoyed reading "Hating the tech is rational" on [email protected] via This day’s portion (a blog from Leon Paternoster) and "One more cup of coffee for the road" on AK Krajewska via rinsemiddlebliss. There are more on my Postroll.

I listened to Subway to Sally and This Is My Fist this week.

Recently, I've been watching "30 Days of Night" (David Slade, 2007) and I'm hoping to start "Alice" (Nick Willing, 2009) soon. I've watched a lot of stuff tagged “animation” and there are 86 things left on my Want To Watch list.

If you would like to talk to me about websites, books, killing plants, food, photography, food photography, music, having cats, or anything else; you can mostly find me hanging around here on the interwebs.

If you would like to talk about me, you can use he/him/his pronouns. If you want or need to know how to pronounce my name - How to Pronounce has got your back!
