The text mentions that according to the source novel all such images are supposedly holographic and another shot of Rachel and her “mother” is presented as a first and probably too subtle example of this.

Talking about subtle clues: on rewatching the scene I noticed for the first time there are two glasses on the dresser in the back. Maybe also meant as a hint that there are two people in that appartement?

Comment on WALL·E by Beni Cherniavsky-Paskin https://typesetinthefuture.com/2018/12/04/walle/#comment-41213 Sun, 14 Jul 2024 14:39:10 +0000 http://typesetinthefuture.com/?p=1490#comment-41213 Do any of the other (non WALL series) bots use interpunct in their name?

BURN·E the separate short’s poster styles it same at WALL·E with circular interpunct and red circle background for the the E; however on the bot itself there is no E circle and some shots show maybe a squarish interpunct but some clearly show a short dash? SUPPLY·R from same short appears to use an interpunct to me.

M·O looks like interpunct to me but could be an extremely short dash? You spelled it both ways in this article.

VAQ-M I’m not sure about.

In any case, many robots clearly use a dash. Do you have any insights on the variance?

Now one detail from the movie that i didn’t quite understand is WallE’s pet cockroach. Do you know why EVE did not classify the cockroach as life? (Another interesting detail is that Disney didn’t sell any pet cockroaches as movie merchandize 🙂

Fun fact related to the opening text about the cargo and crew, In Portugal the title was translated to “the 8th passenger” (“o 8⁰ passageiro”) so viewers would very quickly get a hint about what would happen

I might add that the solid version of Starfleet Bold Extended was used for some relatively small lettering on the refit Enterprise model in Star Trek: TMP, for some small registry numbers and ship names. In starship models made for subsequent films, the inline version of Starfleet Bold was still used for the big registry numbers, but (ironically for the topic of this thread) on some models, the smaller lettering was Eurostile.
