The Artificial Intelligence Society and Dr. Gopal Gupta's research group proudly present: HackReason '22!
This is a UTD exclusive hackathon that is sponsored by Professor Gopal Gupta's lab, and challenges participants to develop applications that rely on simulating human-style common sense reasoning using the s(CASP) system developed at UT Dallas. The only skill you need to participate is proficiency in programming!
The competition will run for 24 hours, starting from 1 PM, January 14th, to 1 PM, January 15th. Teams will then have 1 hour to record a presentation, and submit a project from 1 PM to 2 PM on January 15th.
All times are in Central Standard Time (CST).
The opening ceremony will be taking place on Microsoft Teams at 11:30 AM CST on January 14th, and will feature a talk from Dr. Gopal Gupta.
Join the opening ceremony here.
Likewise, the closing ceremony will occur at 5:00 PM CST on January 15th where the winners will be announced!
Join the closing ceremony here.
Team sizes are limited to a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4. If you wish to be in a team but don't have one yet, don't worry! We will be providing resources for networking opportunities on the HackReason Discord server.

Challenge statement:
Develop an AI system that simulates human-style reasoning (i.e., commonsense reasoning) to realie an intelligent application using the s(CASP) automated reasoning system.
Examples of intelligent system inlcude:
(i): Recommendation system, say, for a restaurant based on your knowledge about user preferences, cuisines, budget, etc,
(ii): A disease treatment system, that takes into account patient symptoms, lab measurements, and medical guidelines to automatically produce a treatment recommendation.
(iii): Degree audit system, for a given major at UT Dallas based on rules laid down in the catalog.
(iv): Automating an FAQ to answer questions about a specific area at a call center.
Requirements
Submission Requirements:
