While she enjoyed the fast-paced nature of closing deals, she realized she hadn’t fully built the foundation needed to succeed long-term in sales. Wanting to grow her skills from the ground up, she took a step back to pursue a career as an SDR.

She began looking for roles while nannying, but breaking into the SDR world proved more difficult than expected. Even though many roles were labeled “entry-level,” landing one without the right experience or support was a challenge. That’s when she found Vendition. The apprenticeship offered exactly what she needed: coaching, interview support, and on-the-job training.

Vendition helped her not only get in the door but also gain the confidence and tools to excel in the role.

With help from her mentor, she explored new outreach strategies and pushed herself outside of her comfort zone. She experimented with personalized LinkedIn messages, video intros, and voice notes—tactics she hadn’t used before but quickly saw results from. “I learned not to be afraid to try new things,” she said. “That’s how you stand out.” She also discovered a passion for the research side of the SDR role, diving into company websites and LinkedIn profiles to make sure her outreach was targeted and relevant.

After the apprenticeship, her growth continued. She became more confident in leading prospect conversations, booking high-quality meetings, and learning how to partner effectively with different AEs. Understanding how AEs approach deals gave her even more context to improve her outreach.

Today, she’s thriving in her SDR career, grounded in the fundamentals, confident in her skills, and continuing to grow. Vendition provided the structure and support to help her start strong and succeed.

Alumni Spotlight: Tara Habibi https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-tara-habibi/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-tara-habibi/#comments_reply Wed, 14 May 2025 21:22:58 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11414 Before joining the world of tech sales, Tara began her career in education and admissions. With a strong passion for school communities and helping students, she found herself naturally drawn to roles that required communication, relationship-building, and advocacy, all key traits in sales.

In admissions, she was essentially selling the school by talking to prospective parents, helping them see the value. It felt surprisingly similar to sales. While she loved working in education, Tara knew she was ready for a pivot. The tech world had always intrigued her, especially the fast pace and innovation that came with it. After discovering a BDR opportunity online, she applied, but quickly realized how challenging it was to navigate the process solo.

“I wasn’t getting feedback. I knew I was interested in sales, but there was so much I didn’t know. That’s when Vendition stepped in and really changed everything.”

Tara wasn’t actively seeking a recruiting company, but a conversation with Vendition’s Relationship Manager, Morgan, changed her mind. Morgan walked her through the process—how Vendition could help land that first interview and continue advocating for her throughout the hiring journey. Getting that first interview is the hardest part. Having someone who could help her get in front of the right people, and be in her corner along the way, made all the difference.

Now thriving in her SDR role at a cutting-edge AI startup, Tara is energized by the pace and potential of the work. The company’s focus on innovation, and the relevance of their AI-driven product, make each day exciting and full of opportunity.

Of course, the SDR role comes with its challenges. From dealing with rejection to mastering time management, Tara leaned on her team and her Vendition mentor for support. There are good days and bad—learning how to bounce back, structure her day, and stay focused has been a key part of her growth. Her mentor offered practical advice, like calendar blocking, and helped her adjust to the rhythm of the role.

For those just starting their sales journey, Tara encourages new SDRs to ask for help while also pushing themselves to improve. Success comes from sticking to a process, constantly iterating, and being open to learning and growth.

Alumni Spotlight: Anna Purchase https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-anna-purchase/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-anna-purchase/#comments_reply Wed, 09 Apr 2025 21:43:35 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11410 After graduating from college, Anna was eager to take the next step in her career. While she appreciated her time in the service industry, she was excited to explore new opportunities that aligned with her strengths and long-term goals. That’s when she discovered Vendition. Through Vendition, Anna was introduced to the world of sales. She researched the field, learned about the skills required, and quickly realized that sales aligned perfectly with her natural talents. She was drawn to the challenge, the problem-solving aspect, and the opportunity to connect with people in meaningful ways. After immersing herself in the training, she knew she had found the right path.

As a professional athlete, Anna needed a company that understood the importance of work-life balance. SimplyAgree stood out because they truly valued her passions outside of work. Unlike rigid corporate environments, SimplyAgree offered a supportive culture that encouraged flexibility in achieving goals. Anna immediately felt at home in a company that not only honored its values but also cared about her as a person. The freedom to approach her sales targets in a way that worked for her, combined with a team that genuinely supported her growth, made SimplyAgree the perfect fit.

Anna quickly noticed striking similarities between her athletic training and sales. As a track and field athlete, she learned to embrace the mantra: “Trust the process.” Training is full of ups and downs—you might not see results immediately, but consistent effort and trust in your coach pay off in the long run. Sales operates the same way. There are off days when you don’t hit quota or book meetings, but persistence and self-reflection help you improve. Athletes are naturally goal-driven and self-motivated, and in sales, hitting milestones—whether it’s booking a meeting or closing a deal—provides the same adrenaline rush as scoring a goal or setting a personal record. This mindset helped Anna transition seamlessly into her sales role, where she applies the same dedication and resilience she honed on the track.

One of the biggest skills Anna has developed since starting her role is confidence. She never imagined herself cold-calling lawyers, leading conversations, and networking with professionals. But stepping out of her comfort zone and refining her verbal skills has transformed her approach to both sales and sports. This newfound confidence has even spilled over into her track career. The way she carries herself, engages with others, and tackles challenges—whether on the phone or on the field—has been elevated. SimplyAgree has not only helped her grow professionally but has also strengthened her belief in her own abilities.

After starting his career in marketing, he discovered it wasn’t the right fit for him. What truly excited him was the dynamic, results-driven nature of sales, especially the opportunity to earn through commissions. Inspired by his parents, who both excel in sales—his mom at UC Berkeley Executive Education and his dad in Italian food distribution—Nico saw firsthand the rewards of hard work and determination. Combining this inspiration with his passion for technology, he decided to pursue a career in sales.

Small but meaningful adjustments, like improving email strategies and mastering phone conversations, have been pivotal. He credits his growth to the guidance of his mentors and teammates, who have shared valuable insights that he incorporates into his daily routine. These experiences have helped him grow both personally and professionally.

Nico’s preparation for his role was also shaped by the Vendition apprenticeship program. The prep calls and practice sessions gave him confidence during interviews, while the video resources and training provided him with a clear understanding of the hiring process. This support made him feel prepared and set him apart as a candidate..

His time at Meadow has been filled with memorable moments, especially as one of the first SDRs alongside Keira. Together, they navigated the challenges of being pioneers in their roles, learning through trial and error. Alumni Spotlight: Alexandra Christy https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-alexandra-christy/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-alexandra-christy/#comments_reply Wed, 08 Jan 2025 21:57:10 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11401 Alexandra didn’t start her career in sales. In fact, she began in medicine, working in an office role that eventually led to a client-facing position. It was here that she first experienced the thrill of competition and the joy of building meaningful relationships—two aspects of work she found very fulfilling. As a former collegiate swimmer, Alexandra was no stranger to drive and discipline. It wasn’t until after college that she truly considered sales as a career path. What ultimately drew her in was the opportunity to combine her problem-solving skills with persistence to make a tangible impact.

When Alexandra was exploring sales roles, FormAssembly stood out for its unique blend of team culture and learning opportunities. During the interview process, she was struck by the transparency and genuine conversations she had with the team.

“Everyone was encouraging and easy to work with,” Alexandra shares. “The supportive environment made it clear that this was the place where I could learn, grow, and succeed.” Her manager played a pivotal role in her decision, offering unwavering support and creating an environment where she felt empowered to take on challenges and thrive in her role.

Alexandra describes her transition into the business world as a soft ramp, one where mistakes were seen as learning opportunities. Her manager and team provided her with resources to fuel her curiosity, and she took full advantage, soaking up knowledge like a sponge. Over time, she not only gained confidence in her own sales process but also began sharing insights with her teammates, contributing to the collaborative culture she loves.

For those just starting their sales journey, Alexandra emphasizes the importance of showing up every day with a positive attitude. Persistence and patience, she says, are key to overcoming challenges and finding success.“Don’t let the ‘no’s’ get to you,” she advises. “Ask yourself: How can I be better tomorrow? How can I find a solution in a sea of ‘no’s’? It gets better with time and effort.”

Alumni Spotlight: Shania Marshall https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-shania-marshall/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-shania-marshall/#comments_reply Wed, 04 Dec 2024 22:27:08 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11396 During Shania’s time in college, she was committed to pursuing a career in medicine. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic led her to reconsider this path. At that time, she began working at a gym called Retro Fitness, where she discovered a new passion and potential in the field of sales. While working at Retro Fitness, she recognized the significant opportunities for financial success within sales. She wanted a career that offered high earning potential, and sales began to appear as a viable alternative to medicine. Her experience at the gym was not only enjoyable but also fulfilling, as it provided a sense of purpose. Additionally, she realized that her degree in psychology could be effectively utilized in a sales career. The skills of persuasion and understanding human behavior, which are central to psychology, are equally important in sales. Her newfound passion for sales and eagerness to dive into the tech industry motivated her to join Attentive.

When navigating the job search, Vendition was there to guide her through a tough job market. Highlighting the invaluable support from her recruiter, she emphasized, “I felt comfortable asking any questions. I really felt like I was in a program that was helping raise me. I was very nurtured throughout the whole process and was given helpful tips that I wouldn’t have done otherwise. Being able to talk to someone throughout the interview process and getting that constant feedback was beneficial”.

Here are some tips Shania shared for navigating a challenging job market.

  • Keep trying and keep going, it takes one yes
  • Don’t get discouraged by the nos. It’s part of the process
  • You’re getting rejected as practice for a sales job.
  • Move on from rejection, don’t let it affect you for too long.

When asked how her experience has progressed over these past months at Attentive, she mentioned how she’s gained a sense of competence and a deeper understanding of her work, especially when she realized the importance of not rushing to hit commissions. Personalizing emails and striving to stand out have become crucial strategies. For instance, when attempting to book a demo with a client, she recalled how personalized communication helped her secure the meeting. This lesson, that even small actions like a customized email can make a significant impact, has remained with her and highlights the value of going the extra mile to differentiate herself.

Congratulations to Shania for her dedication and remarkable achievements! She recently transitioned to a new role as an Associate Account Executive at Amazon. We are thrilled to celebrate her continued success and wish her all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career.

Alumni Spotlight: Kyle Petit https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-kyle-petit/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-kyle-petit/#comments_reply Wed, 13 Nov 2024 19:12:31 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11392 Kyle’s journey into sales began during a ticket sales internship in college, where he was exposed to the world of sales and marketing. Growing up playing sports instilled in him a competitive spirit and a drive for achievement, which naturally aligned with the sales environment. Seeking further growth opportunities, he joined a sales empowerment group on LinkedIn, which eventually led him to the SDR role. Through Vendition, he was introduced to Solutions by Text.

Over the course of the three month apprenticeship at Solutions by Text, his experience evolved significantly. Meeting with his Vendition mentor was particularly beneficial as he provided personalized guidance and support. One key thing his mentor really helped him learn was prospecting. “I was starting to see results when my mentor and I would connect. He helped me personalize my emails and then my cold call scripts, making sure I’m asking the right questions based on our persona”. By understanding the needs of prospects on a deeper level, he was able to tailor his approach and see tangible results in his outreach efforts.

One of the most rewarding aspects of his journey has been achieving milestones such as being named Employee of the Month and exceeding his quota by tripling the number of meetings booked in April. These achievements were made possible by the collaborative efforts of his team and my own dedication to putting in the work. “Huge shout out to the team, everyone’s been willing to help me and roll up their sleeves and get to work. The information they provided was very helpful to be successful in this role”.

As for advice to fellow SDRs

  • Bring that passion and energy
  • Get excited about learning
  • Be very open to coaching
  • Stay positive

Looking ahead, Kyle is excited about the continued growth opportunities in his sales career. He plans to further refine his skills, leverage the support of his mentors and colleagues, and continue exceeding expectations in his role. With a strong foundation and a passion for success, Kyle is ready to achieve even greater heights in the world of sales.

Alumni Spotlight: Keira Christie-Galloway https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-keira-christie-galloway/ https://vendition.com/blog/news/alumni-spotlight-keira-christie-galloway/#comments_reply Wed, 30 Oct 2024 16:33:39 +0000 https://vendition.com/?p=11386 Transitioning from a dedicated D1 athlete to contemplating her future was a significant shift for Keira. After graduating from Grand Canyon University with an MBA, she found herself at a crossroads, searching for a new path that would match the thrill of competition. Exploring various options, she looked for a challenge that would push her beyond her comfort zone while leveraging her strengths. It was during this period of reflection that she discovered the world of sales.

What drew her to Meadow is the profound impact they make in the higher education space every day. In her work, she realized the significance of helping the next generation of students afford school. This mission resonates deeply with her, as she personally benefited from a scholarship that facilitated her own higher education journey. With each day, she finds herself increasingly enamored with her role and the company she’s part of.

When asked about how her background as an athlete contributes to her success in sales, she reflected on the parallels between the two roles. The determination to persevere, especially when facing challenges and striving to meet goals by the end of the week, resonates deeply with her experience as a D1 athlete. She emphasizes the importance of adaptability, drawing similarities between the need to pivot in sales when things don’t go as planned and adjusting during athletic competitions. “Being able to keep your composure and showing up when you’re nervous is a big thing”, she emphasized. “When I was going into a race and didn’t feel 100%, I had to fake it till I made it. Putting on that confident front is super important”.

When it comes to her future at Meadow, she prioritizes professional growth and development. Her primary goal revolves around the pursuit of knowledge, aiming to absorb as much information as possible while refining her unique style to tasks. Meeting and exceeding monthly quotas remains a top priority, serving as a driving force in her day-to-day efforts. Additionally, she looks forward to the idea of conducting demos, viewing it as an exciting avenue for personal and professional development.

Victoria’s career took a turn when she discovered her passion for sales while working in recruitment. This new interest in sales led her to BioDigital, a leading healthtech company, aligning perfectly with her interests and aspirations.

During her three-month apprenticeship at BioDigital, Victoria gained a wealth of knowledge. She familiarized herself with the companies she’d be reaching out to, polished her outreach skills, and most importantly, gained confidence—a must-have for sales success. “ You have to have confidence in order to get stuff done”, she emphasized. “To call somebody, to send them a message, to materialize, anything. You have to be able to push and to make those things happen.”

One of the most valuable lessons Victoria learned was how to handle rejection, a skill she honed with the help of her Vendition mentor. At the beginning of the apprenticeship, she found it difficult to push back when a company rejected her. However, as time went on, she discovered the power in challenging those rejections, pushing herself beyond her comfort zone.

When asked about an essential tip for SDRs, she emphasized the value of patience. This quality played a pivotal role in her recent achievement of establishing contact with big enterprise companies that her organization had long been eager to engage with. The ability to secure these coveted partnerships and initiate vital discussions is paramount in her role.

Congratulations to Victoria on her remarkable success at ! We’re absolutely thrilled to witness her outstanding achievements.
