If the table is keyboard accessible and there is information to convey the data relationships, then that’s sufficient as an alternative.

Comment on Making Numbers in Web Content Accessible by Ricky Onsman https://vispero.com/resources/making-numbers-in-web-content-accessible/#comment-449 Tue, 11 Jul 2023 10:56:27 +0000 https://www.tpgi.com/?p=7248#comment-449 In reply to Chas Belov.

Thanks, Chas. I really tried to focus on the main issue of not relying on color alone, which is why I advised using a minus OR parentheses to indicate a negative number, and I didn’t specify a shade of red to be used – as I’m sure you’re aware, #EB0000 on a white background does conform. The main point is not to rely on color alone, no matter what the color.

You covered issues I didn’t even know exist. That said, with regard to negative numbers, not all screen readers read parentheses aloud, and #ff0000 red on a white background is not WCAG 2.0 AA accessible for contrast; please consider updating your article.

Regarding “The part of the street next to the road where people walk”, in Melbourne Australia we call that a ‘footpath’.

Comment on Accessibility testing as a screen reader user by Raghavendra Satish Peri https://vispero.com/resources/accessibility-testing-as-a-screen-reader-user/#comment-444 Tue, 18 May 2021 12:53:21 +0000 https://www.tpgi.com/?p=4590#comment-444 Thanks for the wonderful article! Being a screen reader user myself there are some learnings that I am taking away from here. I never knew about the screenshot feature & I am doing to give it a try. The other techniques that are laid out are also very good & will come in handy for my next assessment. I also sometimes rely on my sighted friends to get few things done during an assessment. I hope to go through your doc & will get more insights from it.

I wish I could use it to decrapulate more things in my life than just code!
