The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD), established in 1903, stands as a cornerstone of public safety and community service in Vienna, Virginia. Located at 400 Center Street South, the department operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to protecting and preserving the lives and property of the citizens of Vienna and Fairfax County. In collaboration with the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department, VVFD volunteers work alongside career firefighters and paramedics, providing supplemental staffing on various emergency response units, including ambulances and fire engines. In addition to life-saving operations, the VVFD boasts a dedicated cadre of administrative members who volunteer their time to support the many administrative functions required to operate a successful non-profit organization.

While the VVFD is well known in the community for responding to emergencies, the department strives to serve the community in other ways as well. VVFD community outreach initiatives include open house, blood drives, blood pressure checks, Santa runs, pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, and offering hall rentals among other events. The VVFD also boasts the first Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfax County, established in 1927, highlighting its longstanding commitment to community engagement and service.

As Vienna, Virginia has evolved over the years, the VVFD strives to continue to find ways to serve the community as it has since its founding over a century ago. The department’s rich history began with its first apparatus stored under the porch of the Freeman House, but over the years, the VVFD has evolved, constructing its current facility in 1958, which underwent significant renovations in 2005-2006 to modernize its operations.

As a non-profit entity, the VVFD relies on donations and community support, which are vital for maintaining our operations and equipment. Events like the annual “Taste of Vienna” festival, the “Field House Classic” golf tournament, and weekly Bingo games not only foster community spirit but also serve as key fundraising opportunities to support the department’s mission along with generous donations from the community.
