For instance, had you lived untold millennia ago, would you have waited for your toe and finger nails to crack off naturally, or to simply just wear down from nasty and brutish hiking and drudgery? After all, long toenails aren’t a thing, and presumably have never been a thing. But fingernails? Certainly you would have found your nails grew relentlessly and were getting in the way. So, would you consciously choose to trim them?
Ah ha! With what? Your teeth? Were all our ancestors nail biters? One could assume. Nails aren’t claws. Still, they come in handy for prying, digging, and scraping the skin off the face of your mate’s secret lover.
See, that’s not nothing. We’re at least talking page 953 here. One small detail, one tiny diversion laced with survival implications. And this preoccupation is only marginally boring. Has anyone measured the nail length of hand prints on caves? Did people use their fingernails for touch up details on their cave drawings? Who painted the first fingernail? Was there a yet to be dug up manipediolithic era?
Love you too.
