1) Thanks for joining us, can you start by telling us how 2024 has been for Wizard Games so far?

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me! I joined Wizard Games in April this year and the journey has been fantastic so far. Wizard Games is a studio that is constantly working to create new and exciting content that stands out from the norm.

We’ve worked hard to deliver a whole host of successful titles this year such as Lucky Lamp™, Chicken Burst™, Surtr’s Fury™ and Wynmor’s Tales – The Rise™. The first half of the year has been great, but I’m very confident that the second half of the year will be even stronger. We have many creative ideas in the bank! So watch out for some creative new games, mechanics and features that we truly believe players will love!

2) What have you learned from the release of big games such as Surtr’s Fury and Wynmor’s Tales – The Rise?

Surtr’s Fury was Wizard’s first game to feature tumble reels and the reaction from players was great. It has given us the confidence to continue developing similar games featuring them in the future. I can’t give too much away just yet, but I can tell you that we’ll be combining the tumble feature with a 7×7 game grid in an upcoming game.

Excitingly, Wynmor will become our new franchise character and we’re going to be taking a deep dive into his magical universe for many years to come! You can expect to see features and mechanics from Wynmor’s Tales combined with new ones, which should prove hugely popular!

3) Can you tell us about one of your latest slots, Captains of the Coast 2™, and what it entails?

Captains of the Coast 2 is a sequel to what was Wizard Games’ strongest release last year. For the sequel we’ve made a conscious effort to keep the core gameplay as close to the original as possible, but at the same time we’ve improved upon the bonus features to deliver more thrilling wins. In this sequel, the game starts with five collected frames, whereas its predecessor had none at all. We firmly believe improvements such as this will lead to greater player retention.

4) Is this sequel your biggest release of 2024 to date, and do you have any plans for further sequels this year?

Everyone involved in the development of Captains of the Coast 2 had great confidence that it would be just as popular as the original, and we’ve not been disappointed so far! In terms of future sequels in the not-so-distant future… Well, we plan to release a sequel to one of our most popular titles at the end of this year, I won’t tell you what it is just yet though, you’ll have to wait and see!

Captains of the Coast 2 is your first direct sequel to an original Wizard title, what made you choose Captains of the Coast?

It’s simple, Captains of the Coast was one the best performing titles for Wizard Games last year, we received some truly fantastic feedback from both players and operators which was encouraging. Having seen the love first-hand we knew that we had to develop a sequel filled to the brim with exciting enhancements, and here we are today!

What makes Captains of the Coast 2 different from its predecessor?

We made enhancements for the locked frames during base gameplay, as well as making the free spins feature more engaging. In this sequel wild symbols will appear as a full reel-length wilds during free spins. If that wasn’t quite enough, there’s a chance for players to hit a maximum of four full reel-length wilds at any time.

1) Can you tell us what inspired Wizard Games to develop Wynmor’s Tales?

Ever since the studio launched, we knew that we wanted to create a memorable brand mascot that represented Wizard Games. After giving it some thought we realised that there was no better character to represent Wizard than Wynmor, a mighty sorcerer. We then set about to build a game around this character.

Congratulations on the release of Surtr’s Fury, can you start by giving us a brief overview of this slot and what makes it special?

Thank you! Surtr’s Fury is a special game for us because it’s our very first anywhere pays slot, something we have been extremely keen on doing for some while. So far, it’s performing brilliantly and has given us great confidence in our ability to develop new anywhere pays titles in the future.

In terms of the overall gameplay, everything revolves around the Tumbling Tiles mechanic which sees winning symbols automatically removed from the reels. This allows for brand-new symbols to drop into place and form new winning combinations.

We’ve also included all of the key staples you would hope to find in a strong slot release such as win multipliers and free spins where multipliers are collected throughout the bonus.

We’ve seen plenty of slots based on popular mythical gods, but what inspired you to create a slot about Surtr in particular?

Norse mythology is a huge staple of iGaming culture. It’s up there with classic themes such as Irish and Fishing slots. Players love them and rightly so!

The main reason we opted to go with Surtr, leader of the fire giants, is because he hasn’t been utilised in any game before, unlike other Norse figures such as Thor, Odin, Freyja and Loki. These characters are all fantastic in their own right, but it was nice to be able to introduce someone new.

Surtr was known for setting the whole world on fire, which is no mean feat! For this release, we wanted to throw players into an intense Norse adventure that offers a thrill-a-minute.

What were the key ingredients you purposely included in this game in order to ensure that it succeeded?

To be honest, there’s no sole ingredient that has made Surtr’s Fury a success. This game’s success comes from a whole concoction of brilliant features and mechanics that make it what it is.

We crafted a brand-new game, engine and mechanics for this release, which certainly wasn’t the easiest thing for our development team to do but all of the hard work was worthwhile and it’s had a great impact in engaging players.

We were also mindful of getting the mathematics right. We made Surtr’s Fury a medium volatility game which meant players would enjoy a combination of exciting gameplay and a better chance of picking up more frequent wins.

Do you think unique mechanics are the future of online slots, or is there room for every type of game in this day and age?

I certainly think there’s room for new and unique mechanics. It’s only natural that slot games evolve as time goes on. If you look back a few years you will remember that the Megaways mechanic was the hot addition to any successful game. They were succeeded by Hold & Win mechanics which have been equally as popular with players.

Despite seeing clear trends around the type of games suppliers, operators and players gravitate towards, we firmly believe that there is room for a little bit of everything, especially new content.

We had the opportunity to talk about our upcoming Crash game as well as our forthcoming catalogue of exciting titles for operators to strategically promote our content in acquisition, retention and reactivation campaigns to their direct customers.

We create and adapt our tools and content according to players’ preferences and our clients’ business objectives. You’ve seen rapid expansion in North America through several partnerships with the likes of DraftKings and Hard Rock. Could you give us an insight into your long-term vision for the market?

Our mission for Wizard Games is to partner with as many operators as possible throughout the North American market. We want to deliver high quality games that resonate with players by having creative features, high quality graphics, relatable themes and support our partners’ growth strategy with our content. We are putting a huge focus on the localisation of our content in 2024.

Part of Wizard Games’ success has been down to your dynamic, multi-faceted slots. Can you tell us more about Surtr’s Fury, your latest release, as well as what else we can expect to see this year? 

Games based on Scandinavian mythology are universally loved by players. We are launching the industry’s first ever game based on Surtr, the leader of the fire giants, where he sets the world aflame in Ragnarök! We wanted to create a game which transports players into the heart of a fiery Norse adventure. Looking further down the line, we will continue to focus constantly on the player’s experience, and we are very excited about the launch of our Crash game, Wright Flyer in H1 as well as Digipays, a retro-styled game. Our players can anticipate some familiar faces reappearing for another adventure, as well as some new concepts that is sure to turn heads!
