As modern buildings and homes become more connected, the demand for seamless control over technology continues to grow. Users expect intuitive systems that can manage multiple systems, such as lighting, audiovisual, HVAC, and security, with minimal effort. A solution that people often turn to is Crestron products, due to the company’s reputation for creating sophisticated control and automation products. However, once consumers get deeper into their research of capabilities of Crestron products, they find themselves faced with the decision of whether or not to have a Crestron programming company customize those products.

Not every project requires Crestron programming, but here several ways to know if yours does:

You Need Multiple Systems to Work Together

Many projects involve several independent technologies—lighting, AV equipment, video conferencing platforms, motorized shades, climate control, and more. When these systems operate separately, users are often forced to juggle multiple remotes, apps, or control panels.

Crestron programming allows these technologies to be integrated into a single control interface. Instead of managing each device independently, users can operate everything from one touch panel or mobile app. If your project requires different systems to communicate and function together, a Crestron-based solution can be extremely valuable.

Your Space Requires (or Could Benefit from) Automation

Automation is a major reason organizations invest in control systems. For example:

  • Conference rooms that automatically power on displays and start video calls
  • Classrooms that adjust lighting and projector settings when a lecture begins
  • Homes where lighting, climate, and shades change based on time of day
  • Hospitality spaces that have preset “scenes” for different events

Crestron programming makes automation like these possible and can dramatically simplify the user experience.

You Want a Consistent User Experience

In larger environments—such as corporate headquarters, universities, or hotels—users tend to move between rooms on a regular basis. When each room has a different user interface, there can be confusion, resulting in the need for more technical support.

Crestron programming can provide a standardized interface across multiple spaces. This consistency improves the user experience and reduces training time. If your project includes several rooms or locations that should operate the same way, a unified Crestron interface can make the system much easier to use!

Off-the-Shelf Solutions Don’t Meet Your Needs

Many automation devices come with limited capabilities off the shelf. While they may suffice for simple setups, complex environments often require customization.

If your project has requirements that standard solutions can’t handle, a custom-programmed control system may be the best option.

Reliability and Scalability Are Important

Professional environments demand systems that work consistently. Crestron systems are widely used in commercial spaces because they have a reputation for reliability.

With expert Crestron programming, your system can also be expanded over time. Additional rooms or devices can be incorporated at a later date without having to rebuild everything and replace expensive hardware. If your project is expected to grow or evolve, investing in a scalable system like Crestron early on can save time and cost later.

Just about any building or home can be enhanced with Crestron programming, but maybe none so much as educational buildings! Crestron products and the customized programming we can provide here at AVPA can be game changers on the campuses of  colleges, universities, technical schools, and any other institutions of learning.

Making Information Easier to Share with Crestron Programming

Not every teacher or professor is tech savvy! They can be extremely knowledgeable about their area of specialty but still struggle with the technology that is incorporated into many of today’s modern classrooms.

Crestron’s line of learning technology is designed to help educators be able to share information easily, without having to be experts in AV technology. For example, Crestron’s programmable 4K AV presentation system has built-in AirMedia technology, allowing educators to wirelessly share presentations, photos, videos, and more from their personal devices. It’s an easy-to-use system that can be made even more user friendly with Crestron programming.

Scalable Technology

One of the great things about Crestron is that their technology is extremely scalable. Institutions that implement Crestron technology in one area can then roll it out campus-wide when the time is right. Eventually, learning can be enhanced throughout the entire campus by utilizing a unified Crestron control system in all classrooms, lecture halls, auditoriums, labs, and more.

Technology That Supports Remote Learners

Remote learning is here to stay! What started out as a necessity during the pandemic has turned into a preferred method of learning for many students. They can get a quality university education from home, without having to commute or pay to live on campus. Colleges and universities that want to continue to be relevant well into this century would be wise to implement technology to support their remote students.

Crestron products, accompanied by the expert Crestron programming we provide at AVPA, can position an educational institution to be a leader in remote learning. The key is to provide remote students with an experience that mimics the in-person experience as closely as possible.

In a recent project we worked on at the University of Nevada, Reno, the auditorium in their new business building was equipped with multiple cameras, as well as with the Crestron Automate Camera Tracking System, which automatically focuses on the person who is actively speaking. This allows remote participants to more easily follow the presentation and get the most out of it.

Crestron Programming for Centralized Control of Multiple Building Systems

Buildings on college and university campuses have a lot of systems included in them—everything from heating and cooling systems, to AV systems, to security systems, and more. Unifying the control of all systems into a single Crestron-controlled system can make managing a complex building more manageable.

The team at AVPA helps educational institutions by integrating all of their building’s systems and providing customized user interface design.

Do you have a Crestron system in your home or place of business that was installed more than a few years ago? When you had it installed, you likely used the latest in Crestron technology, but since then, new technologies have come out, and now you might be wishing you could take advantage of those new advances.

Here’s the good news—you can!

When you work with an experienced Crestron Service Provider like AV Programming Associates, we can upgrade your Crestron system by integrating additional devices and adding functionality that may not have been available when you first had your system installed.

One popular upgrade is to have voice control added. If your current Crestron system can only be controlled by a touch panel or through an app on your phone or tablet, a Crestron Service Provider can modify your system so it can be controlled through voice commands. This technology has come a long way in recent years, so if you looked into it a while ago and determined that it wasn’t far enough along to have it implemented in your original installation, now might be the time to add it.

The team at AVPA can also integrate additional devices into your current system. Maybe you want to add motorized shades, or a whole-house audio system that extends to the outdoor areas, or maybe you have a new home security system that you would like to integrate with the rest of your home’s system.

Crestron systems can often be modified using existing equipment to save you some money. Even if another Crestron programmer has told you that you need to start over with completely new Crestron devices, we would love to provide you with a second opinion to see if we can utilize what you already have in your home or commercial building. It is often the case that we can do a less expensive upgrade, rather than a completely new installation. Our company is uniquely positioned to complete these types of system upgrades because we have been in the Crestron programming business for so long and have worked with just about every piece of equipment Crestron has ever produced. Not very many other Crestron Service Providers can say they’ve been in business for more than 20 years, like AVPA can!

We would love to talk to you about the functionality that is available today and how we can help you upgrade your Crestron system to utilize it in your home or place of business. Our team completes Crestron programming projects all over the country, so even if you aren’t located near our headquarters in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, we can likely still help. Contact us today.

Just like some people are smarter than others, there are some smart homes and smart buildings that exceed others in terms of automation and control. You could have a smart home with several smart devices, such as a smart thermostat, smart lighting, and a smart security system—all of which you can control from apps on your phone or different wall-mounted devices. You could have a similar setup in the building in which you work. There could be smart devices for energy management, as well as a smart system for video conferencing in the conference room. These types of devices are readily available to consumers and are fairly easy to implement into a home or commercial setting.

But what if you want more? What if you don’t just want a typical smart home or smart building, but the smartest home or building? What if you want a space where all of the systems are integrated and easily controlled and monitored from a single device, and/or one with customized functionality designed just for the way you and others use the space? In cases like these, you will need to bring in someone who is skilled at programming automation and control systems.

Some of the best home and business automation and control systems in the world have Crestron systems behind them, and those systems have been enhanced by Crestron programming.  Crestron programming, which involves coding and setting up Crestron control systems, is how homes, commercial buildings, educational and governmental facilities, and more are customized.

There are other control systems out there, but none of them match the flexibility and scalability of Crestron! This makes Crestron especially useful in large-scale environments. However, it is equally successful when used in smaller environments, such as in homes, on private jets, or on yachts. If you are looking for the highest functioning and most adaptable control system available, there’s not really anything else out there that can compare to a Crestron system customized by an experienced Crestron programmer.

Here at AVPA, we specialize in giving our clients high-end programming that provides them with a user-friendly and bug-free experience when all is said and done. Every system we program is thoroughly tested to make sure everything works exactly as our clients expect it to, and we don’t consider the job finished until a client is completely satisfied with their system.

We would love to talk with you about your upcoming project for your home, commercial space, or any other environment that could benefit from a Crestron system with custom programming. Contact us today to learn more about the Crestron programming services we offer and how we can help give your space the functionality it needs.

When something in your home breaks, it can often be a challenge to find someone who can fix it. Quality repair people are few and far between. In addition, the cost to fix something, like an appliance or computer, could be so high that it doesn’t make financial sense to make the repairs, so you just buy a new one.

People sometimes come across this situation with their Crestron systems. It might be the case that they invested a good amount of money in Crestron programming to get a customized system many years ago, and now they want to upgrade it or make changes to it. Or it could be that the system isn’t working properly anymore, and they need someone to troubleshoot the system and fix it.

If the original Crestron programming company is no longer in business, it can be very difficult to find someone to work on a system that they didn’t originally program. Rather than attempting to troubleshoot problems, many programmers will recommend starting from scratch and having an entirely new system designed and programmed. In some cases, this is the best solution—particularly if the existing equipment is too outdated to give the client the functionality they are looking for. However, in other cases, an existing system can be updated or expanded, saving the client a good amount of money, when compared to starting completely over with all new hardware and software.

There are two reasons why a Crestron programming company might not want to touch an existing system. First of all, they may not be familiar with older Crestron technology and can’t confidently work with it. Second, they simply may not want to take the time to figure out the issues or analyze the existing code. From the programmer’s perspective, it’s almost always easier to start from scratch. It can also be more lucrative for the company.

Here at AVPA, we are a Crestron programming company that many people come to when they want someone who is willing to do system troubleshooting. Since our company has been in business more than two decades, we are very familiar with just about all Crestron technology. We are great at troubleshooting and we love a good challenge!

It has happened more than once that a client has come to us having been told by another Crestron programming company that it wasn’t possible to fix or upgrade their existing system. However, when we took a look at it, we found that it was absolutely doable. We were able to save these clients a ton of money by using what they had, rather than completely starting over.

If you’ve been told by another company or programmer that you need all new hardware and software to get a Crestron system that meets your needs, AVPA would love to provide you with a second opinion. We will provide you with an honest assessment of your system and what it will take to get it to where you need it to be. At the end of the day, we may come to the same conclusion as the initial assessment you received, or we may be able to work with your existing Crestron system to save you money, while still providing you with the functionality you need. We work on both residential and commercial systems and serve most areas of the United States. Contact our office to tell us about your Crestron programming project or send us a message through our contact form.

When most people think of Crestron programming, they are understandably thinking about the solutions it can provide for indoor spaces. The brain likely goes to customized solutions for spaces like corporate conference rooms, luxury smart homes, hospitality environments, educational institutions, or government buildings. But Crestron programming can be used to enhance outdoor environments as well. Here are some examples:

Crestron Programming for Outdoor Audio

As outdoor speakers have become more durable, as well as easier to hide in landscapes and hardscapes, the demand for advanced outdoor sound systems has increased. This is true for luxury homes, as well as for high-end hotels that have outdoors spaces for guests to congregate, such as pools and alfresco dining areas. With Crestron programming, we can create an outdoor audio system that coordinates with the indoor systems for a consistent indoor-outdoor experience, or we can create a stand-alone outdoor audio experience. We work with some of the best audio integrators for systems that sound great and that are also easy to control and automate.

Outdoor Lighting Solutions Controlled by Crestron

Outdoor lighting is another area that can benefit from Crestron programming. Not only can outdoor lights turn on and off on a schedule, but they can also have customized settings for various events. With the touch of a button, you can turn on your “Evening Pool Party” setting that turns on the pool and spa lights, or your “Outdoor Dinner Party” setting that illuminates your outdoor dining area. At AVPA, we have even programmed special high-powered lights to illuminate the ocean in front of a home for evening surfing sessions!

Outdoor Heating and Fans

Want to make your guests more comfortable in your outdoor space and extend the outdoor entertaining season? Incorporating built-in heaters and fans that are easy to control is a must! Portable heaters and fans can be bulky and unsightly, but when they are incorporated into the outdoor design, they can almost disappear. And when heaters and fans are controlled by a centralized Crestron system, you won’t have extra remotes lying around (that can be easy to misplace). Instead, heating and cooling devices can be controlled by the same touch panel that you use to control the sound, lighting, and other systems.

Water Features

Water features, such as fountains, pool waterfalls, spa heaters, and more can also be brought under Crestron control to give you an easy way to prepare the area for guests or for your own personal enjoyment.

Security Systems

Finally, you should consider integrating your outdoor security devices into your Crestron system, including things like outdoor security cameras, access control systems, security gates, motion detectors, floodlights, and two-way audio systems. These systems can also be controlled remotely to help keep your property secure at all times.

Advantages of Crestron Programming for Outdoor Systems

Crestron programming allows you to have all the advantages of a smart home or business—without the complication. You and your staff don’t have to be tech savvy to be able to control all aspects of your outdoor space. Instead, all the systems can be easily managed through a single device so you can focus on more important things.

The above list of systems that can be controlled by Crestron is not exhaustive either. You could also incorporate things like digital signage, televisions, outdoor movie screens, motorized outdoor shades, and just about anything else you can imagine to customize your outdoor space.

At AVPA, we are all about providing solutions—even for unique requests that other Crestron programming companies might not be able to accommodate. Contact us to tell us about your upcoming project, and let’s see how we can work together to create the perfect outdoor setting!

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been a topic of conversation for many years now, but with the launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, it seemed like everyone was talking about AI. There was talk about teenagers using it to write their papers for school. People were writing songs with it. Businesses were using it to identify trends in data sets. And yes, people were using it to write code for programming purposes.

Does this mean that using a Crestron programming company will be a thing of the past? In our opinion, probably not anytime soon.

While AI is a powerful tool, it’s still just a tool. On its own, a tool is pretty much worthless. It needs someone to use it properly for it to provide real value.

Companies like Crestron that provide systems for video conferencing, digital content distribution, and smart homes, as well as control and management technology, are quickly incorporating AI into their products. For example, Crestron recently introduced “Intelligent Video” for their video conferencing systems. The products in their Intelligent Video collection have features that allow video cameras to follow the conversation from speaker to speaker, capture the best views of the room, and track presenters as they move. It’s pretty slick technology that we envision a lot of companies incorporating into their conference rooms.

However, even as companies like Crestron are using AI to commoditize a variety of solutions, there will always be customers in need of a customized solution, and that’s where a company like AVPA comes in. We provide the customized solutions that you can’t get “off the shelf,” like those needed in high-end board rooms, command centers, government buildings, large entertainment venues, and fully integrated smart homes with unique needs. These types of solutions still require human intelligence. They need someone who can understand what the client is asking for and how the end users need the system to operate.

That’s why, when you hire a company for Crestron programming, you want to find one that not only has great programmers on their team, but also one that takes the time to understand the type of functionality you are looking for. Then, you want them to program it in such a way that the system is easy to operate without extensive training, with control devices that are intuitively designed.

Assuming that AI continues to advance and become more incorporated into the technology we use, the role of Crestron programmers may change, but we don’t believe humans will ever be completely replaced in this industry.

Of course, no one knows exactly what the future holds, but for now, our Crestron programming company is continuing to provide customized solutions for our clients.

If you are in need of the expertise of a Crestron programming company like AVPA, we would love to talk with you. Contact us today to discuss your upcoming project.

Crestron dealers who have been selling and installing Crestron systems in corporate or government settings for any length of time likely know that not all end users are necessarily tech savvy. Maybe the person who is put in charge of making sure a building’s systems are integrated has a good handle on the latest automation and control technology, but the average company employee will likely have little to no experience with Crestron-controlled systems. Similarly, when it comes to working with homeowners, there are some people who like the idea of home automation and home control but aren’t exactly tech-savvy individuals and need a user-friendly interface in order to be able to navigate a Crestron control system.

If you are a Crestron dealer, bringing in a Crestron programmer to customize the way in which your non-tech-savvy clients interact with the Crestron system can be a game changer!

How a Crestron Programmer Can Benefit Homeowners

Homeowners are drawn to a Crestron control system because it gives them the ability to integrate different home systems into one easy-to-operate system. They no longer need a separate control panel, remote, or app for their smart lighting, whole-house audio, heating and air, home security devices, pool and spa equipment, and more. Not only does consolidating control reduce clutter in the home, but it also allows homeowners to only have to learn how to use a single device to control multiple systems.

Working with a Crestron programmer, like the programmers at AV Programming Associates, who can streamline the user interface and make it as user-friendly as possible, is key!

Bringing in a Crestron Programmer for the Benefit of Employees Using Crestron Systems

Many of the same benefits listed above also apply to employees in corporate settings, hospitality environments, entertainment venues, government buildings, educational facilities, and more. While not every employee will need to know how to operate all of the building’s systems, it can still be advantageous to have a user-friendly interface for the systems they do need to access.

A customized Crestron system can make controlling the systems in meeting rooms, training rooms, classrooms, or customer-oriented spaces much easier for employees. With the push of a single button, the entire space can be transformed as the Crestron system adjusts various systems to preset levels at the same time. Say the user is the manager at a large restaurant and bar. At 5:00 pm, he or she can go to the Crestron control panel and select “Night Mode.” The lights and music will both change to create the atmosphere the restaurant wants for their evening clientele. That atmosphere will be the same every night—no matter which manager is on duty—helping to create a consistent experience for customers. When it’s time to close down for the night, the manager can then select “Closing Mode,” which will turn off the lights, music, and HVAC system, and activate the security system.

Crestron hardware comes with some functionality out of the box, but for end users who want customized functionality that’s based on their specific needs, an experienced Crestron programmer can be extremely valuable.

Are you looking for a Crestron programmer that can give your clients both customized functionality and ease of use? Contact us at AVPA to learn more about our capabilities.

If you’re searching for a Crestron programmer for your upcoming project, you may be wondering how important it is to hire one who is certified by Crestron—or if it matters at all. There are plenty of programmers out there offering their services as Crestron programmers who have not gone through the process to become certified by Crestron. These are people who have likely learned on the job, and/or who have taken some courses but never actually went through the entire process to become certified by Crestron.

While there are certainly some non-certified Crestron programmers out there who would do good job for you, it can definitely be a gamble to hire someone who has not gone through the entire process to become certified. Here’s why:

Becoming a Certified Crestron Programmer Involves Extensive Training

While a non-certified programmer will likely have some sort of training—either formal or informal—going through the entire Crestron Certified Programmer Training Program definitely gives a programmer an advantage. The official training program includes both online courses and hands-on experience. The courses cover everything from the Crestron programming language, to the programming environment, to the Crestron control system itself. The program includes everything that Crestron feels is vital for a programmer with their official designation to know.

The extensive hands-on lab portion of the training allows programmers to put their knowledge into practice in scenarios that mimic real-world programming projects.

A Certified Crestron Programmer Has Passed a Strenuous Exam Demonstrating Expertise

Once a programmer has completed the Crestron Certified Programmer Training Program, he or she can then sit for the Crestron Certified Programmer Exam.

This isn’t just a multiple-choice test. The exam can take someone upwards of 100 hours to complete. It requires a programmer to demonstrate a deep understanding of Crestron programming by creating code for various scenarios they might come across in the real world.

Passing the exam isn’t a given by any means. Those who pass it are skilled, knowledgeable, and have proven the ability to problem solve on the job. Passing the exam also demonstrates a dedication to the craft of Crestron programming.

Once a programmer passes the Crestron Certified Programmer Exam, he or she is officially a Crestron-certified Programmer.

Crestron Service Providers

Crestron Service Providers (CSPs), of which AVPA is one, are companies that have Crestron-certified programmers on staff. As a CSP, our company has access to continuing education courses and Crestron’s True Blue Support team, among other benefits.

If you’re looking for a Crestron programmer to provide you with proven expertise, AVPA definitely fits the bill!

You will come across AV companies and Crestron dealers that have some programming abilities in-house. However, on large or complex jobs, they often outsource the Crestron programming to companies like ours, which have more extensive programming knowledge and expertise.

In a world that sometimes values youth over experience, we’d like to make the case for working with a Crestron programmer like AVPA with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Our company was founded in 2001and has completed more than 1,300 projects as a Crestron Service Provider (CSP). We’ve worked on large-scale projects, as well as smaller ones that require specialized knowledge, and we are one of the few Crestron programming companies willing to work on existing systems for upgrades or troubleshooting.

Here are some other reasons why AVPA is the right choice for your Crestron programming project:

We’ve Worked in Every Possible Environment

In our 20+ years, we’ve worked in all types of environments that require customized Crestron programming. Not only have we worked in corporate settings, but we’ve also worked extensively in hospitality environments (hotels, restaurants, casinos, etc.), government buildings, educational institutions, medical facilities, military bases, and more!

In addition, we’re often brought in by Crestron dealers to provide Crestron programming in high-end residences for their most discerning clients—clients who want customized control of their smart homes.

We’re Trusted by Crestron

Another reason to hire AVPA as your Crestron programmer, is because we have the full confidence of Crestron! When new Crestron dealers find themselves in need of a programmer, Crestron often refers our company. The same goes with Crestron dealers who have complex projects that their in-house programmers aren’t able to confidently handle. Crestron tells them to call us!

We’ve also been brought in by Crestron to take over a few projects that were botched by other Crestron programmers. We’re one of only a few Crestron programmers who do these types of “takeover” projects.

We Know the Importance of Providing Customized Crestron Programming Services

If our years as Crestron programmers have taught us anything, it’s that no two clients are the same. Every client wants customized service from us, and we are happy to provide it! Some of our clients want us to be on site and work closely with their installers, while others prefer that we work remotely. Some want regular updates, while others just want to hear from us when their project is completed according to their specifications.

At AVPA, we work hard to ensure that we meet the expectations of all our clients and provide them with a great experience during all our interactions. But ultimately, we want every client to be completely satisfied with our work. We want them to have Crestron systems that work exactly how they envision.

If you are looking for a Crestron programmer like us, we would love to talk with you! You can reach us through our secure web form, or give our office a call.
