From the docs:

the part to the next %? is displayed only if a % escape inside the part expands to a non-empty string

Comment on That Old MTV “Vertebrae” Commercial by Chris Cable https://www.kilobitspersecond.com/2008/03/27/that-old-mtv-vertebrae-commercial/#comment-63762 Mon, 19 Aug 2024 20:56:37 +0000 http://www.kilobitspersecond.com/2008/03/27/that-old-mtv-vertebrae-commercial/#comment-63762 In reply to Ellen.

Noah was one of my best friends growing up. We went to Tappan Zee High Schiol in Rockland County, NY. He lived in Piermont, NY with his sister, brother and father. He and I would get baked and make our own funny videos and commercials. One day his dad was calling him Hano, and I was like, wtf? His dad just said “I don’t know, it has the same letters…”. Lol, miss him. I believe he lives in Switzerland now.

Comment on LLMs make good analysts, bad oracles by grubz https://www.kilobitspersecond.com/2024/06/10/llms-make-good-analysts-bad-oracles/#comment-63753 Mon, 10 Jun 2024 15:37:53 +0000 https://www.kilobitspersecond.com/?p=6043#comment-63753 I really like this take. I’ve found that the ai tools that are actually decent at search pretty much do exactly what you described here; not using ai to generate the results, but scanning multiple web pages based on your query, analyzing the information and building a summery with an LLM based on that information. Makes sense for Apple to implement it in a more analytical way. The current ai stuff they’re already doing with iPhones that have neural processors already kind of uses it this way. Like how it can pull people and animals out of pics or add a depth effect to your wallpaper.

Comment on The war in Elon’s head by J. Blackmail him to do what? What does he imagine this is about?”

He imagines it is about the good old “advertisers blackmailing a newspaper/magazine to get it to abide by their politics”. Something as old as mainstream media and advertising, in its 21st century social media version.

Which is pretty much what is going on.

Now, “Earth” might seem like an odd choice of wording, but what he means is clear: “let the global public decide whether this is a blackmail/sabotage or not”

““They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.” Note that he doesn’t believe “free speech” will simply be an unfortunate casualty of the passive cowardice of advertisers fleeing X; he believes that advertisers’ fleeing X is a deliberate attempt to “destroy free speech.””

He is not that off about thinking that either. By this time, major companies appear to care more about pushing dominant themes (from partisan politics to “woke” ideology) than about actual sales. To the point of actively alienating their target groups.

Perhaps the intended audience to laud their ads is not actual consumers and the public at large, but media pundits. The executives doing this are going to get paid and have their golden parachutes open anyway, whatever the result.

In any case, if he played with Democrat-friendly partisan rules he’d have no problem whatsoever.

I only use it for one site but I think the idea is a single payment system which can be embedded on any website.

Hm, it may be because this is no longer an experimental block? You don’t see it in your available blocks? Maybe you need to enable “JetPack Blocks” in the JetPack Writing settings?

Probably a dozen times I have begun this exploration until my phone rang. Today I found this post and I expect it will be good enough for me for the next twenty years. Thank you.
