Bryan’s career journey at Google started with the overnight shift in security. Today, he’s a licensed attorney and Global Intelligence Manager who leads one of the teams responsible for keeping our employees safe. He used Google’s Education Reimbursement Program to close the gap between where he was and where he wanted to be. While the financial support for his degrees was a game-changer, he credits his leadership for helping him manage the balance of working full-time while finishing law school. "The support from my leadership at Google was what made the finish line possible,” he explains. “My leadership didn't just 'allow' me to study; they supported me consistently throughout the five year process." Bryan’s advice for success at Google? "The willingness to be vulnerable to feedback,” he says. “In my experience, Googlers don’t often offer feedback to find fault, they do it because of a collective desire to produce the best possible product." Welcome to Platform 37, our new building in London’s King’s Cross. Opening later this year, it’s a world-class Google workspace and a hub for the community — including a new public space dedicated to deepening understanding of artificial intelligence. The name is a nod to "Move 37," a pivotal play made by Google DeepMind’s AlphaGo AI system in a now legendary 2016 match against Go world champion Lee Sae Dol. “Move 37” was so unconventional that human experts initially thought it was a mistake — but the play had set up AlphaGo to win, and the victory heralded the beginning of what is now recognized as the modern era in AI. Groundsource is a new AI-powered methodology that transforms millions of public reports into a high-quality record of historical disaster data to aid crisis prediction — starting with flash floods in urban areas. Groundsource used Gemini to analyze decades of public reports and identified over 2.6 million historical flood events from 150+ countries. It then used Google Maps to determine precise geographic boundaries for each event to create a dataset focused on flash floods. That data was used to train a new mode designed to help predict flash floods in urban areas up to 24 hours in advance. These urban flash flood forecasts are now available in Google’s Flood Hub, marking a significant expansion to our flood forecasting capabilities. We're also open-sourcing Groundsource to help our partners and scientists scale their impact, particularly in regions that have lacked historical flash flooding data. 10 years ago, Google DeepMind’s AlphaGo became the first program to beat a world champion at Go — a game with more moves than atoms in the universe. Today, it’s changing the world. AlphaGo won with “Move 37,” a play so unconventional, experts thought it was a mistake. This win proved AI could exhibit genuine reasoning and intuition, marking the true start of the modern AI era and a decade of scientific discovery: 🧬 Scientific breakthroughs: The success of AlphaGo demonstrated the potential for AI to help us better understand the vast complexities of the physical world. This led to AlphaFold, which solved a 50-year "protein folding" grand challenge. This work was recognized with the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper on behalf of the AlphaFold team. 🔢 Mathematical reasoning: AlphaGo’s tech helped AlphaProof, paired with AlphaGeometry, to become the first AI systems to earn silver at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Recently, an advanced version of Gemini Deep Think went even further, achieving gold-medal performance at the 2025 IMO. 💻 Algorithm discovery: Our agent AlphaEvolve is discovering new ways to make computers run more efficiently, optimizing the code that powers everything from data centers to quantum computing. 🚀 Up next: The path to AGI. Mastering a game was just the beginning. Our goal is to build systems capable of true invention — AI that doesn't just solve problems, but helps humanity navigate its most enduring challenges.
